“They’re both rolled on their sides, with Ilya resting his hand on the crook of his neck. He feels Shane’s heart pulsing from his fingertips—a steady reminder that even after all these years—he’s still enamored by his presence. It gives him an intoxicating rush. Ilya pecks Shane on the forehead, his lips lingering there because there’s nowhere else he’d rather be. He knows that he’ll never go back to his country—the place where he was born—because now it’s only a drawing on a map, it’s not his home and it hasn’t been for a long time.”
Shane tells Ilya his favorite thing about him, bringing back some old memories from his childhood, including when his mother would play with his curls but also when he was forced to shave his hair as a teenager.
