Work Text:
Asa Crowley-Fell watched from the window as Joshua climbed out of the driver’s seat, carrying a tray of biscuits and carrying a bottle of wine that Anthony particularly favored. Adam came out of the passenger side then disappeared, and oh, Asa could have been bowled over with a feather, Adam and Warlock came into view again with the two babies cradled in their arms.
Asa threw the door open, shouting over his shoulder for Anthony to come quick. He barely even said hello before cooing, “Oh, who are these darling girls, they’re so very precious—”
Adam laughed, and gestured towards the door. This conversation would be better had sitting down, and it wouldn’t do for Anthony to miss any of it.
Tea was poured, biscuits arranged hastily with the scones on a platter. As soon as they sat, the older men set into them. How long had they been planning to adopt, why hadn’t they told anyone, oh, could they please hold them?
Joshua passed each of them a daughter, smiling proudly. “Asa, you’re holding Ruth; Anthony’s got our June. They’re twins, just a month old.”
Asa’s eyes sparkled, soft in that way Anthony loved, as he peered down to coo at the precious human in his arms. Anthony bent to take a deep sniff of June’s hair, grinning up at Warlock. “Nothing beats the smell of your baby. I used to do this with you, kid… awful when you got too old for me to go ‘round sniffing you.”
“The best smell! ‘cept when they need changing, of course. We hadn’t told you because we wanted it to be a surprise when we asked— when we asked you to be their godfathers?”
Anthony’s eyes went wide, and Asa hadn’t smiled so wide in months.
“Godfathers! Well, I’ll be damned!”
