Work Text:

In all seriousness, what were you supposed to do when your ex from high school, who you had a very messy relationship with, suddenly sent you a wedding invitation?

Sure, he and Hyunoh had already put aside their differences and rekindled their old friendship. However, despite it being an entire decade since they broke up—Cha sadly, mortifyingly, and frustratingly, still holds a semblance of feelings towards the man.

The thought makes his heart prickle, a sense of dread growing at the pit of his stomach.

His mind wanders back to the invitation with gilded ink—technically, he could just skip it.

He doubted Hyunoh would fault him for it, the man knew just how deep his feelings for the other is; having been the subject of it when they were together. Which made the wedding invitation felt even more vicious.

Cha was aware that it wasn’t sent out of malice; as sadistic as Hyunoh was, he doubted the man still held a grudge against him after all these years. He was the type to forgive, although not forget.

And frankly speaking, this was probably his attempt to try and mend the bridge that had grown between the two of them. They were close friends before everything fell apart, after all.

Still. There's a fear in the back of his head that this was a plan to embarrass him in front of a crowd of people, as ridiculous as that sound.

He was broken out of his thoughts as a notification sounded in his headphones, indicating a superchat had been sent.

> Are you doing okay? You've been spacing out a lot during today's stream. Please take care of your health, CEO Cha!

The eyes beneath the mask blinked owlishly at the message before softening ever so slightly; with a voice changer that slightly tuned his voice, the man replied.

“I'm fine, Roasted Chestnut. I've just had a lot in my mind.”

Roasted Chestnut was a big fan of his. Even then, the word ‘big’ feels like an understatement. They were known in the fandom as the person that splurged a lot on his merchandise, official and fanmade ones. Last he checked, they had bought the limited edition 50cm CEO Cha plush doll.

He sometimes wondered what work Roasted Chestnut does to be able to afford so many merchs—or if it's the money of their supposedly successful boyfriend. Being a longtime fan who had tuned in for most of his streams, he knew a few things about this fan of his.

One, they have a boyfriend (they mention him any chance they get.) Two, their boyfriend is allegedly famous (Cha wondered if this was a lie.) And lastly, said boyfriend had proposed to them around a year ago (the clip of everyone cheering for Roasted Chestnut went viral for a couple of weeks.)

They were a core part of his fanbase, to the point that he started looking forward to seeing Roasted Chestnut in his live chat.

> What Roasted Chestnut said, please take care of your health CEO Cha. I can't have my patriarch dying on me.

Another thing his fanbase had created was what they call the ‘Cha Family,’ where everyone would put the surname Cha in their names to indicate that they are a part of the family.

He didn’t know how this even came to be, nor did he want to find out. His viewers can range from insane spenders like Roasted Chestnut to crazy, almost cult-like ones like the Cha Family.

His gaze rove back to the monitor displaying the open-world gacha game he intended to check out today. There was a new update, with two new units added into the game. Cha wasn't a spender, but his fans enjoyed seeing him spin for a character that he has a fifty-fifty chance of earning.

As he mindlessly moved the character in his screen, his mind began to wonder just what kind of person Hyunoh was marrying.

His brows furrowed beneath the mask.

He knew of what the man had come to be; a successful model with over four million followers on Instagram. Hyunoh, just like Roasted Chestnut, made it known to everyone that he was not available whatsoever. But he never once posted a picture with his partner in it.

And if anyone's wondering—yes, Cha did keep up with Hyunoh's life still even if they barely talk.

Finding out he was working as a model was a surprise given his condition. However, Cha had to admit the man was attractive. He knows this, was aware of this even before they dated back in high school, but fuck does he look ethereal under professional lighting.

It made the green monster residing deep in his heart stir, before he forcefully shoved it back down and locked it behind ten layers of padlocks.

It was his (old) best friend's wedding, it'd be a dick move to not attend. Besides, Cha was very curious about who the lucky guy was that managed to own that bastard's heart.

The masked man took a deep breath.

Okay, he definitely needs some time to himself.

“I'm ending the stream early today.”

He didn't even bother apologizing, his fans were used to his rude way of speaking and merely wished him the best with whatever he had going on. There was a slight pang of guilt, but it's nothing compared to the overwhelming feelings swirling in his chest.

The moment he finished turning off his setup, he took off the mask covering his face and practically threw himself over to his bed.

It would've been better if the world just ended, he thinks.

A gate to some other dimension appearing and kidnapping citizens, humans awakening and being able to use some weird items. At least that way, the wedding would definitely be canceled.

Cha begrudgingly attended the wedding.

He almost skipped it, keyword: almost. The problem was Hyunoh had messaged his number—not one of his social media—and personally asked if he was going to come tomorrow.

Cha felt like ripping his hair out when he saw the notification. He felt even more like a loser when it took him ten minutes to muster up a reply, deleting and rewriting his text before deciding to not answer the man at all.

He must've looked pathetic in Hyunoh's eyes. However, it's Hyunoh, and for some reason it felt less embarrassing.

He needs to get his head checked. Maybe an appointment with a therapist would make him feel better.

So here he was, with a tailored suit clinging to his body, watching as the ex-love of his life stood in the wedding venue. He had left the collar of his dress shirt unbuttoned out of spite, uncaring of the side glances he was given by other attendees.

It was an indoor wedding, so Hyunoh didn't have to wear his tinted glasses and could annoyingly plaster his handsome face everywhere without anything obstructing it. It annoys him. It pisses him off.

Especially when he noticed the look of love in those golden pupils as the man of the hour finally makes his appearance—what the fuck?????

There was a man, around 180 centimeters in height (don't quote him on this), holding a bouquet with a veil over his head. He wore a black dress shirt underneath the ivory suit, a complete contrast to Hyunoh's dark attire.

His outfit wasn't the problem. The problem was the fact there's a very, very noticeable CEO Cha nui poking out of his chest pocket.

?

??

?????????

If he had been drinking something, Cha was sure he would've spit it out by now and drenched the person right in front of him in liquid. He could barely process what was happening; the exchange of vows, the rings, the kiss—it didn't register in his mind at all. Instead, his eyes were glued to the stupid nui on the chest pocket. Taunting him.

He's Roasted Chestnut?

Hyunoh's fiancé was Roasted Chestnut?

Roasted Chestnut was dating his ex?

Roasted Chestnut is marrying his ex???

So the boyfriend—the fiancé Roasted Chestnut had been talking about was… Hyunoh?

Cha wanted to bolt out of the reception immediately.

And bolt out he did, the moment he saw the chance to slip away he took it and practically ran outside of the building.

He thought back to the times Roasted Chestnut—No, Han Goyo, had talked about his lover. How he was the sweetest guy ever, and how his lover could do no harm.

Yeah, that was a fucking lie.

Then he thought back on other things Han Goyo had said. His lover was a famous man—Hyunoh was a model with over four million followers. His lover also proposed to him last year—which matches the date of the post Hyunoh had put up over a year ago, announcing his engagement.

And two days ago, Roasted Chestnut had posted a tweet about bringing his Cha nui to his wedding after convincing his lover.

Cha grimaced as he remembered that Roasted Chestnut—Han Goyo's fiancé (now husband) was known to really dislike the streamer CEO Cha in the fanbase.

Hyunoh dislikes the streamer CEO Cha, aka his ex from high school.

A hollow laugh escaped his lips as the man slowly crouched down on the ground, head in his hands, rethinking all his life choices. His biggest fan was his ex's lover-now-husband, and he had attended their wedding.

Maybe he really needed to schedule that therapy appointment.

And maybe he should be thankful to his past self for keeping his streamer persona anonymous, at least there's zero chance of Han Goyo realizing who he actually was.

Cha wondered how shitty of a move would it be to just leave without greeting his friend—but he was already pretty insane for bolting out of the reception the moment he was able to. And walking back inside felt like a test of courage with how he needed to face Han Goyo whilst hiding his identity.

It was then he sensed someone looming over him, and curiously, his eyes gazed up. There was a man with hair he could only describe as holographic—different from his bluish, white hair.

A gloved hand offered him a handkerchief, before a detached voice spoke. “Are you alright?”

Cha couldn’t help but think, I must've looked really pathetic.

He also thought that this guy was pretty. Too pretty in fact that his mind went back to the pretty guy that had stolen his heart, crushed it, and then had his lover come and attempt to ruin his career too (this didn't happen.)

Cha immediately slapped the hand away before standing up, an irked expression clear on his face. He'll just say his greetings and leave, and he'll make sure to get back at Hyunoh because there was no way this wasn't on purpose.

An idea popped into his head that definitely risked his identity being exposed—but he didn't care. Cha hopes Hyunoh enjoys seeing his lover get excited over another man.

As he turned on his heels and tried to make his way back to the venue, that pretty guy suddenly spoke again.

“You're just as rude as you are online, CEO Cha.”

Cha stopped dead in his tracks. What?

Before he could even confront the other on how the fuck does he know who he is—a handkerchief was slipped into his pocket. Cha stared dumbfoundedly, the pretty guy merely hummed. “I hope you can fix that attitude of yours, it isn't that charming.”

And with that, he walked away. Leaving Cha alone with his thoughts. The man blinked once, then twice, before remembering Hyunoh's friends were all weirdos and that's definitely one of them.

He felt his eye twitching out of pure annoyance as he pulled the handkerchief out of his pocket and attempted to throw it into the trashbin—before his gaze caught the sight of a neat handwriting atop the fabric.
