Work Text:
Romeo Brosca had spent her childhood loose in Dust Town. There was a certain kind of freedom to being unwanted, though she was always trapped by her status. She had often felt a little adrift, a little alone, but she had always had Rica, the sister who had half raised her. Later, there had been Leske, and she valued his presence too, but dependable Rica had been her sole comfort for so long.
Once she began working under Beraht, there were new expectations upon her. As one of his men, she had to be solid as stone, intimidating and uncrossable. Romeo had always been a quiet sort, and it was easy for her to turn that into cold intimidation. Only Rica knew that Romeo’s silence had arisen out of a lack of understanding of the rules of conversation. It was easier not to talk than to get it wrong.
As a Warden, with her array of companions, she had found a new kind of ease. People on the surface didn’t judge her by the brand on her face. She was acting as leader. It was almost unbelievable.
Finding love was even more so. She had related to Zevran from the start. They were both products of brutal worlds, though he had been pushed into violence with far more force than she. When he talked to her of his past, she surprised herself from the force of her anger.
With Morrigan, friendship had sprung fast, but it was years before they began a romance. As they had travelled, they got to know each other. With time, they had spoken of their childhoods. Comparing notes, almost. Two women reared by difficult mothers, out in the wide world for the first time. Years later, both a little changed as they had grown, they had found a love blooming between them.
