Chapter 1: episode 1: introduction

Chapter Text

Minute walk through the halls of his end base. He hears his kids playing in the game room. There’s no door to the room, so he peaks through the entrance to see what his kids are doing.

He sees Spoke and Rose playing Uno on the floor in the center of the room. The metal box it came in is in the right corner of the room. Spoke and Rose were his two biological children. His (almost) 13 year old son,Spoke, had his void black skin and black hair. He had his mother’s eye shape and hands. Minute was always asked how Spoke had Angel’s hands, but he couldn’t explain it. It was just something that he couldn’t but look at and be reminded of his late wife.

His daughter who was born a year after Spoke, Rose, looked nothing like him. If you saw Minute and his daughter together, you wouldn’t expect her to be his daughter. Rose was a spitting image of her mom, though. Same light pink hair that curls at the bottom. Unlike her mom, her hair was a lot longer. Her hair reached down to her hips. Sitting down on the floor, it touched the ground. She also had her mother’s purple butterfly wings. Spoke got the wing genes, but they’re smaller and he hides them under his hoodie.

The only thing that she didn’t seem to inherit was her personality. Angel was the one who made the first move. Minute was far too shy back in high school to have ever talked to anyone. He was always having his head in a book. Rose was very shy around anyone she wasn’t familiar with. It took her until fifth grade to make her first friend.

The two were playing their game of Uno. It was their favorite game. Minute never understood why, but it brought a smile to his face to see them bonding.

The top card in the pile was a blue 7, Spoke didn’t have any card that would work.

“Oh my god, Spoke, just draw already!”

“Fine.”

He took a card from the draw pile, but proceeded to put 2 cards inside the discard pile.

“uno!” Spoke exclaimed, acting like he didn’t cheat.

“No.” Rose shoved the whole discard pile toward Spoke. “You have, like, a hundred cards!”

“Well I use the green swap card to summon a tornado to wipe you off the end island!”

Rose accepted the challenge, taking the rest of the cards in the middle and putting them in her hand.

“I summon an elytra to fly back to the island using the red 1!”

“How are you supposed to fly up without rockets!”

“Well I use the red 3 to give myself flight duration 3 rockets.”

“That’s cheating. You can’t play two cards at a time.”

“Well I just did.”

Spoke looked straight into Minute’s eyes. Minute was thrown aback by how he already knew he was there. “Tell her that’s not how you play!” Spoke pouted.

Minute walked over to the two, crouching down to get on their level.

“Kids, kids, you can use the ‘draw two’ cards to play 2 cards.”

The two nodded their heads in agreement.

Minute got back up and left the room, the kids still screaming their heads off. He went to check on Wemmbu, who was hopefully not doing something stupid. Like going to the outer end islands when he was specifically told not to. To Minute’s relief he was still outside trying to climb the pillars.

Wemmbu had purple skin, with similarly colored hair. His hair fell slightly past his armpits. He refused to let his dad cut it. He said that long hair was awesome. When Minute suggested tying it back so it wouldn’t get in the way of his “adventures” (which are mostly just him going places Minute specifically told him not to go), he said it wasn’t a big deal.

The two don’t look anything alike. That’s because Wemmbu was adopted. He found him abandoned in the nether at 3 years old. He couldn’t let him suffer or die, as the nether is a dangerous place. So he took him in. Wemmbu knows he’s adopted, but it doesn’t make him feel any different from his siblings.

“Wemmbu, time to come inside. It’s getting late.”

“But dad, I’m so close to climbing to the top of the pillar,” he said, pointing to the top of said pillar.

“I bet you are, but you should go inside and play with your brother and sister.”

“Fine,” Wemmbu said, rolling his eyes.

They went back in and Wemmbu stood in the game room. Minute went back to guarding the end. Which meant he was walking around the halls.

“Yay, about time Mr. Lone-wolf Stays-outside-climbing-obsidian came in. Now we have a third player!” Spoke burst out.

Rose frowned at Spoke. “But we were in the middle of our game.”

“It was getting boring, Rose.”

Rose sighed and walked to the corner, angrily reading the rules of Catan.

Wemmbu and Spoke played 2 people in a boat, a game they made up on the spot.

“Are you going to stop being boring and play with us? We need the leviathan,” Spoke said, wanting some more action in the game.

“Fine, I’ll be the scariest sea monster EVER!”

Rose got up and pretended to shake the imaginary boat. Spoke got an imaginary canon ready. While Wemmbu prepared to defeat it by going into the sea and slaying the beast.

“I’m firing the canon,” Spoke said, aiming toward Rose. “Boom!”

Rose dropped to the ground, flopping around like a fish suffocating in the dry air.

“You got me. You have slain me brave warriors,” Rose said, speaking slowly to sound weak.

“But you forgot about the father of the leviathan," Minute jumped in.

“Eek, Wemmbu, get to the boat quickly.”

Wemmbu tried swimming, but was stopped by Minute.

“Your boat is no match for Poseidon,” Minute roared.

“Dad, that’s the wrong mythology,” Spoke informed.

“Oh no, saying that made Poseidon angrier.”

“I’m sorry, Wemmbu, but I’m leaving you behind. I’m not looking to get shipwrecked.”

Spoke rowed out of there laughing, and so did the others.
