Work Text:

Silver didn’t normally get sick, but when your assignment consists of testing out your lab partner’s potion in Alchemy, he wasn’t surprised when he fell ill the next day.

It wasn’t the first time he felt ill like this. Feverish, fatigued, stomach cramping, migraines, completely bound to his bed. It happened all the time when he was younger, back when his father didn’t understand which fae foods humans couldn’t eat. It didn’t happen as often now, but every once in a while he’d get sick again, but it was usually just a common cold or at the very worst, the flu. He hadn’t gotten sick like this in a long time.

Lilia, Malleus, and Silver had come to check on him a few times throughout the day, but there wasn’t much they could do to help him at this point. He just had to wait out the other effects that might show up because of the faulty potion he drank.

When he heard a knock at the door, he expected it to just be one of those three coming in to fret over him again. He weakly called out, “Come in.”

As the door slowly creaked open, Silver could see a faint blue light out of the corner of his eye, illuminating his dark room. He immediately shot up from his bed to see his boyfriend, Idia, quietly creeping into his room. His sweatshirt hood was pulled over his fiery hair, as if he was trying to hide. He silently closed and locked the door behind him.

“Idia? What are you doing here?” Silver questioned.

Idia pulled his sweatshirt sleeves over his palms and tugged his hood further over his head. “You haven’t been answering your phone, and I got a little worried. Lilia told me you were sick so, I, uh, came to check on you,” he mumbled.

Silver blushed at his confession. He’d been worrying about Idia the whole day, unable to bring himself to pick up his phone because of his migraine. He was glad that he actually showed up to school instead of sending his tablet, but guilty that he made him worry. At least he got to see him today.

“Oh, thank you,” Silver replied, some of the tension dropping from his shoulders. “I really appreciate you taking the time to visit me.”

A faint pink glow mixed with the blue underneath Idia’s hood. “It’s not a big deal. My classes got canceled so I was just gonna go try and find you anyway. Figured I might, like, take care of you or something after Lilia told me you were sick.”

Silver’s heart melted. “Really?”

From what little of Idia’s face Silver could see, Ignihyde’s housewarden almost looked offended. “You’re always taking care of me. Shoving food at me and making me go to sleep on time and whatever. Why wouldn’t I do the same for you?”

“I’m just glad you thought of me, that’s all,” Silver murmured softly with a smile on his face.

The pink glow got stronger. “Of course I did. You drank a potion that was clearly brewed incorrectly and now you’re miserable.”

Silver frowned. “It was for an assignment.”

“You still didn’t have to drink it if it looked wrong. Could’ve just told Crewel it looked wrong but you just had to be nice to your lab partner and drink it.” Silver opened his mouth to argue but Idia cut him off. “And don’t even try to lie. I know you just did it so you didn’t have to be mean.”

Silver just smiled at him, his hair falling in front of his tired eyes. “You know me so well, don’t you?”

Idia’s eyes narrowed on him. “It’s not funny that you got yourself sick.”

“I know. But I’m just glad to see you.” Silver noted the way his boyfriend tugged his hood down further. “Or some of you, at least. Why are you hiding your face from me?”

“I’m not hiding my face.”

Silver’s smile turned sheepish. “It kind of looks like you are.”

Idia rolled his eyes. “I know the symptoms of food poisoning. Or just poisoning in general. I can tell you have a migraine just by the way you’re squinting and have the room completely dark.” Silver could barely see how Idia cast his gaze towards the ground. “I can’t exactly make my hair not… you know.”

“I know you can’t.”

Idia turned back towards the door. “I really just came to check on you and make sure you weren’t actively dying. I can come back when you’re feeling better.”

As Idia put his hand on the doorknob, he heard Silver weakly call out, “Please stay.”

The boy froze for a moment, slowly putting his hand back in his pocket. “What?”

Silver lifted one of his arms and gestured for Idia to come closer. “Don’t go. Stay here for a minute.”

“I don’t want the light of my hair to make you feel worse.”

Silver pouted. “You could never make me feel worse.”

Tentatively, Idia crept closer towards Silver, only stopping at the edge of his bed. Silver gently pulled him down next to him. He tucked his head underneath his boyfriend’s chin and moved his hand to pull out a strand of Idia’s fiery blue hair. Ignihyde’s housewarden stopped him before he could do that.

“You must be really out of it,” Idia mumbled. “Putting yourself in danger even now.”

“I don’t care,” Silver whispered, just wanting to see more of Idia’s beautiful features.

“And you say that I don’t take care of myself properly. You’re just as bad.”

“Maybe. But that’s why we’re perfect for each other.”

Pink shone from underneath Idia’s hood. “You’re so cheesy and cliche.”

Silver just smiled up at him. “You still love me though.”

Idia let out a small sigh. “I do love you.” He pressed a kiss to Silver’s forehead. “I just wish that good part of you didn’t make you so stupid sometimes.”

Silver nuzzled into Idia’s chest, all of the tension he was holding in his body dropping as warmth flooded his system. “You still wouldn’t change me for the world.”

“Yeah I know.”

“I love you too.”

Idia held onto Silver a little tighter, closing his eyes and burying his face in his boyfriend’s hair. “Get some rest.”
