My Chef

Summary:

"Shua-yah," Jeonghan’s voice was a low, melodic murmur, perfectly tuned to the quiet intimacy of the room. "Are you awake, love?"

Joshua hummed in response, pushing his face deeper into the pillow.

Jeonghan entered slowly, his movements deliberate and quiet, as if not to disturb the sanctity of the nest. Joshua felt the warmth of his body, the gentle shift of air as Jeonghan settled on the floor beside the nest, not climbing in just yet. There was a clinking sound, a subtle aroma of something utterly delicious beginning to mingle with Jeonghan’s Alpha scent.

"I brought you something,"

Work Text:

The first whispers of Joshua’s heat had begun two days ago, a subtle shift in his internal barometer, a faint hum beneath his skin. Now, on the third day, it was in full bloom, a warm, heavy blanket of sensation that left him both exquisitely sensitive and profoundly vulnerable. He was curled deep within the nest in their shared bedroom, a soft fortress built from blankets, pillows, and worn hoodies that smelled comforting of both him and Jeonghan. His own pheromones, usually a light, sweet scent of blossoming jasmine, were now richer, more potent, tinged with a delicate plea for comfort and closeness.

He wasn't craving intensity today. Not the usual fervent passion that often accompanied their heats, the primal dance of Alpha and Omega. Today, his omega instincts yearned for something softer, a deep, quiet affection that settled his buzzing nerves. He wanted gentle touches, reassuring scents, and the kind of soul-nourishing comfort food that only Jeonghan knew how to provide.

Jeonghan, bless his perceptive Alpha heart, understood. He hadn't pushed, hadn't demanded. Instead, he had been a constant, soothing presence, checking on Joshua periodically, ensuring the nest was undisturbed, and filling the air with his grounding scent of cedarwood and a faint, comforting hint of warm vanilla. He’d slipped out earlier in the evening, leaving Joshua to drift in and out of a drowsy, contented state.

Joshua shifted, burying his face deeper into the worn fabric of one of Jeonghan’s hoodies, inhaling the familiar, powerful scent. His stomach rumbled softly, a gentle reminder that he hadn't eaten much all day. He usually had little appetite during the initial intensity of heat, but now, a low thrum of hunger was starting to make itself known, especially for something savory and warm.

A soft knock echoed from the bedroom door, followed by the sound of the handle gently turning. Joshua didn't even have to open his eyes to know it was Jeonghan. The rich, calming wave of his Alpha’s scent preceded him, washing over the nest and instantly easing a tension Joshua hadn't even realized he was holding.

"I brought you something," Jeonghan whispered, his fingers gently brushing the hair from Joshua’s forehead. His touch was feather-light, exactly what Joshua craved. "You haven't eaten properly today, and I know how much your Omega loves comfort food when you're feeling... soft."

Joshua finally opened his eyes, blinking slowly in the dim light of the bedside lamp. Jeonghan was sitting cross-legged, a small, collapsible table set up in front of him, laden with an array of dishes that made Joshua’s heart swell and his mouth water simultaneously.

There was a steaming bowl of tteokbokki, but not the aggressively spicy kind. This was a milder, richer version, the rice cakes glistening in a thick, savory sauce, dotted with fish cakes and melted cheese. Beside it, a plate of perfectly fried mandu, golden and crispy. And, in a smaller bowl, a silky smooth gyeran-jjim, steamed egg custard, light and fluffy. A side of perfectly cut fresh fruit—strawberries and grapes—added a touch of vibrant color and sweetness.

Jeonghan’s scent shifted, a wave of pride and tender affection washing over Joshua, mingling with the intoxicating aroma of the food. It was a feast, prepared with love and understanding, specifically for him.

"Jeonghan-ah..." Joshua’s voice was thick with emotion, his omega instincts purring loudly in his chest. "You... you made all this?"

Jeonghan smiled, a soft, loving curve of his lips. "Of course, love. I knew you weren't up for going out, and take-out isn't the same. Plus, I remember you saying you wanted something warm and savory, but nothing too heavy."

He reached for the tteokbokki, carefully spearing a rice cake and holding it out to Joshua. "Here. Just try a bite."

Joshua sat up, leaning against the pillows of his nest, his eyes never leaving Jeonghan’s face. He took the offered rice cake, the warmth of the food a comforting balm against the slight ache in his throat. It was perfect—chewy, flavorful, and exactly what his body had been craving.

"It's amazing," Joshua murmured, chewing slowly. He took another bite, then reached for Jeonghan’s hand, lacing their fingers together. "You always know exactly what I need."

Jeonghan squeezed his hand gently. "It's my job, isn't it? To take care of my Omega." He didn't make it sound like a duty, but a privilege.

He ate slowly, deliberately, savoring each bite while Jeonghan watched him, his gaze soft and attentive. He didn't press him to eat more than he wanted, simply offered each dish with quiet encouragement. He fed Joshua the first few bites of the egg custard, his thumb gently wiping a speck from Joshua’s lip.

"I thought you'd want something light after the tteokbokki," Jeonghan explained, his eyes twinkling. "And then the fruit for something refreshing. My heat menu, custom-designed for my favorite Omega."

Joshua leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to Jeonghan’s forehead, then his cheek. "You're too good to me."

"Nonsense," Jeonghan replied, pulling Joshua closer until the Omega was leaning against his side, tucked comfortably into his space. He wrapped an arm around Joshua’s waist, pulling him into a secure, warm embrace. He began to stroke Joshua’s hair, a repetitive, soothing motion that sent waves of calm through the Omega. "You deserve all the good things, Shua. Especially now."

The silence that settled between them was not empty, but full. It was rich with the scent of their mingled pheromones—Jeonghan’s grounding presence, Joshua’s soft, sweet contentment—and the lingering aroma of the delicious food. Joshua felt utterly cherished, loved not just for his vibrant personality or his dazzling talent, but for the soft, vulnerable core of his being.

He closed his eyes, leaning fully into Jeonghan’s warmth. "This is... exactly what I needed," he confessed, his voice a little shaky. "Not... not the usual, intense stuff. Just this. You, and food, and quiet."

Jeonghan pressed a kiss to the top of Joshua’s head, his Alpha scent blooming with possessive, tender satisfaction. "I know, love. I know you. Your Omega calls for comfort first sometimes, and passion second. And I'm here for whatever you need. Always."

He continued to stroke Joshua’s hair, occasionally pressing another soft kiss to his forehead or the curve of his temple. He didn't speak much, letting his presence, his scent, and his gentle touch do all the talking. This was his way of nurturing, of protecting, of showing a love that went beyond words or grand gestures. It was in the quiet understanding, the perfectly chosen meal, the unwavering, gentle presence.

Joshua drifted, feeling safe and utterly content within the embrace of his Alpha. The heat was still there, a soft thrum beneath his skin, but it was no longer a demanding force. It was simply a state of being, made infinitely more bearable, and even beautiful, by the selfless love surrounding him. He knew that later, perhaps tomorrow, the more primal urges would return, and Jeonghan would meet them with equal fervor. But tonight, this tender, nourishing care was everything. It was the deepest form of love, whispered in home-cooked meals and gentle, understanding touches.
