Our Time Machine

Summary:

“Happy Anniversary, Alpha,” Joshua whispered, a shy smile playing on his lips. He leaned down, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to Jeonghan’s forehead, letting his scent gland brush gently against Jeonghan’s temple – a casual, tender mark.

Jeonghan’s heart swelled, a wave of warmth spreading through him. He pulled Joshua closer, burying his face in the soft expanse of Joshua’s neck, inhaling deeply. “Happy Anniversary, my beautiful Omega,” he murmured, his voice thick with sleep and affection, his own scent blooming in response, protective and possessive. “Did you sleep well?”

Work Text:

The scent of blooming jasmine was the first thing Jeonghan noticed, even before his eyes fully opened. It wasn’t the sweet, heavy perfume of a pre-heat Omega, nor the faint, contented drift of a peaceful morning. This jasmine held a hint of anticipation, a sparkling edge that spoke of excitement and a touch of nervous energy. His Alpha instincts hummed in response, a soft, reassuring thrum of his own cedarwood and vanilla, already reaching out to soothe and envelop.

He shifted, opening his eyes to find Joshua already awake, propped up on an elbow, watching him with soft, gleaming eyes. The morning sun, usually held at bay by their thick curtains, seemed to have found a way to filter through, casting a warm glow on Joshua’s features.

Joshua hummed, rubbing his cheek against Jeonghan’s hair. “Better now that you’re awake. I’ve been too excited to sleep properly.” He pulled back slightly, his eyes sparkling. “So, are you ready for our trip down memory lane?”

Jeonghan grinned, already knowing the plan. For weeks, Joshua had been hinting, teasing, and finally, yesterday, revealed their anniversary celebration: a recreation of their very first date. “I’ve been ready since the moment I woke up. Where are we starting, my love?”

“First, a shower. Then, you’ll find some clothes laid out for you. I tried to remember what you wore,” Joshua said, a playful glint in his eyes. “And then, to La Petite Fleur for breakfast.”

Jeonghan chuckled. “You remembered the name. Impressive.” He remembered the tiny, unassuming cafe with the mismatched chairs and the best almond croissants he’d ever tasted. He also remembered the knot of nerves in his stomach, the careful politeness, the overwhelming desire to make a good impression on the captivating Omega across the table.

An hour later, dressed in a soft grey sweater and dark jeans – surprisingly close to what he’d worn that day, Joshua’s memory was uncanny – Jeonghan found Joshua waiting for him. Joshua himself wore a pale blue button-up shirt and slim black trousers, a quiet echo of the elegant simplicity he’d worn on their first outing. His jasmine scent was a delicate halo around him, tinged with a delicious anticipation.

They walked hand-in-hand to La Petite Fleur, the morning air crisp and fresh. The cafe hadn't changed much. The same quaint floral wallpaper, the same gentle clinking of cups, the same comforting aroma of coffee and freshly baked pastries. They found the small corner table, miraculously free, where they had first sat.

“It’s exactly the same,” Joshua breathed, his eyes wide with nostalgia as he settled into his chair.

“Almost,” Jeonghan corrected, reaching across the table to interlace their fingers. “This time, I’m not sweating through my shirt with nerves, and I know I get to take you home at the end of the day.”

Joshua laughed, a soft, melodic sound. “You were so formal. ‘Mr. Yoon, it’s a pleasure.’ You almost didn’t even look me in the eye for the first ten minutes.”

“I was intimidated by your beauty, Omega,” Jeonghan confessed, squeezing his hand. “And by your jasmine. It was already so captivating, even then. I knew you were something special.”

They ordered the same things: two cappuccinos, an almond croissant for Jeonghan, and a plain butter croissant for Joshua. As they waited, they talked, their voices low and intimate, the years between their first date and now melting away.

“Do you remember what we talked about?” Joshua asked, sipping his cappuccino.

Jeonghan smiled. “Everything and nothing. Your love for art, my interest in photography. We bonded over a shared dislike for cilantro. You told me about your grandmother’s garden. I tried so hard not to stare at your lips when you laughed.”

Joshua flushed, his jasmine sweetening. “I remember thinking how kind your eyes were. And how your cedarwood scent was so grounding, even when you seemed a little flustered. I remember wanting to just lean into it.”

“You did, eventually,” Jeonghan teased gently. “But it took a few more dates. You were very good at playing hard to get.”

“I just wanted to be sure,” Joshua countered, though his smile softened the words. “Sure that my Alpha was truly committed.”

After breakfast, they paid the bill and set off for their next destination: the small, botanical garden they’d wandered through that first afternoon. The autumn leaves were a riot of gold and crimson, just as they had been years ago. The air was cool, carrying the scent of damp earth and decaying foliage.

They walked along the winding paths, their hands clasped, their steps synchronized. They stopped at the small pond, where Jeonghan had playfully splashed water at Joshua, making him shriek with mock indignation. They sat on the same wooden bench overlooking the rose garden, which, even in its winter dormancy, held a familiar charm.

“This is where I first realized I was falling for you,” Jeonghan admitted, pulling Joshua closer, resting his chin on his head. “You were talking about the different types of roses, so passionately, your eyes just alight. And I thought, this is it. This Omega is going to be my everything.”

Joshua tilted his head back to look at him, his expression soft. “And I remember thinking how easy it was to talk to you, even then. How your Alpha was so patient, so understanding. And I remember feeling… safe. Like I’d finally found my home.” He leaned up and pressed a soft, chaste kiss to Jeonghan’s lips. “Thank you for coming back here with me, Alpha. It means a lot.”

“Thank you for being my home, Omega,” Jeonghan replied, deepening the kiss, his scent filling Joshua’s senses, a promise of steadfast devotion.

As the afternoon began to wane, they made their way back to their penthouse, the recreation complete. The gentle nostalgia of the day had left Joshua feeling soft, vulnerable in the best way, his jasmine scent quiet but profoundly emotional. Jeonghan felt his Alpha hum, deeply satisfied, knowing his Omega was receptive and cherished.

Once inside, Jeonghan led Joshua to their bedroom. He closed the blinds, plunging the room into a dim, cozy twilight. He lit a few unscented candles, their flickering flames casting dancing shadows on the walls. Soft instrumental music began to play, filling the space with a gentle melody.

Joshua watched him, his eyes wide and luminous in the dim light. He knew what was coming. The scenting ceremony wasn't a ritual they performed every day, but reserved for special occasions, moments where they needed to deeply reaffirm their bond, to reset and recommit.

Jeonghan turned, his gaze fixed on Joshua, radiating a profound love that made Joshua’s omega instincts purr. He held out a hand. “Come here, my love.”

Joshua walked into his Alpha’s embrace without hesitation, his body already yielding, his jasmine blooming in anticipation. Jeonghan wrapped his arms around Joshua’s waist, pulling him flush against his body. He buried his face in Joshua’s hair, inhaling deeply, letting his own cedarwood and vanilla scent wash over his Omega.

“My beautiful Joshua,” Jeonghan whispered, his voice a low rumble against Joshua’s ear. He gently rubbed his cheek against Joshua’s scent gland, just below his ear, a soft, deliberate motion of marking. “My precious Omega.”

Joshua whimpered softly, a sound of pure contentment, his own hands coming up to grip Jeonghan’s shoulders, pressing his face into Jeonghan’s neck, taking deep, fortifying breaths of his Alpha’s comforting scent. He felt completely enveloped, utterly protected. The day’s emotional journey had opened him up, and now, Jeonghan’s love was pouring into him, filling every part of his being.

Jeonghan continued, his hands moving to gently stroke Joshua’s back, then moving up to cup his face. He gazed into Joshua’s eyes, his own shining with devotion. “You are my anchor, my light, my greatest joy. Every day with you is a gift, and every year is a testament to the incredible bond we share.” He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to Joshua’s lips, then his forehead, then his eyelids. “I promise to cherish you, to protect you, to love you fiercely and unconditionally, for all our days. My heart, my home, my future is with you, and only you.”

He rubbed his scent glands gently along Joshua’s arms, across his chest, marking him completely, intertwining their essences until the air around them was thick with their mingled scents – the strong, protective cedarwood and vanilla, the sweet, comforting jasmine. It was a symphony of their bond, a palpable expression of their love.

Joshua leaned into every touch, every word, every wave of Jeonghan’s comforting scent. He felt the jitters from the morning completely vanish, replaced by a profound, unshakeable sense of peace and belonging. “Oh, Alpha,” he choked out, tears gathering in his eyes, but they were tears of overwhelming happiness. “And I promise to always be your home, your comfort, your deepest love. To fill our lives with beauty and peace. My Alpha, my Jeonghan.”

Jeonghan pulled him into a tighter embrace, holding him close, swaying gently. He continued to murmur soft reassurances, sweet endearments, until Joshua’s body relaxed completely against his, his scent calming into a soft, contented hum.

They stayed like that for a long time, held in the secure bubble of their love, the flickering candlelight illuminating their intertwined forms. On this anniversary, they hadn’t just revisited their past; they had reaffirmed their present and cast a loving gaze upon their future. And in the unwavering devotion of his Alpha, Joshua knew, with absolute certainty, that their journey together was just beginning, and it would be nothing short of magnificent.
