That person is dead. What are you living for now?

Summary:

After Wifies died, Parrot went through a lot of struggles trying to move on. Eventually, he managed to be okay at least for the most part. He joined a server that Flamefrags invited him to, and there, he unexpectedly met someone who looked exactly like Wifies (Clone)

Notes:

I got the idea from a video of Parrot meeting a fake Wifies, and also bc I miss them too, I hope you guys enjoy it!!🥹

(And it's mostly interactions between the clone and Parrot, since Wifies is dead, of course 💔)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Wine

Chapter Text

Wifies was blown up by ParrotX2

Wifies left the game

Ever since Parrot escaped from Paragon and accidentally killed his close friend, he had flown far across different biomes, memories of him and Wifies flashing by like a beautiful film reel playing out. Parrot kept flying aimlessly just to stay away from other players, and to escape both his loneliness and the inner conflicts tearing at his soul.

After days of continuous travel, Parrot landed in a tropical jungle and began building himself a nest there. Hmm... A treehouse? Well, he didn't really have the motivation to build anything elaborate anyway—After all, he'd be building it alone.

A makeshift shelter was erected, just enough for Parrot to get by. He collapsed onto the bed—It wasn't very comfortable. It was so cold... Wifies would have held him, let him curl up in his arms to keep warm... Damn it- he was thinking about him again.

His wings pressed tightly against his curled-up body on the bed. Could just one day without him really make his mood this low and restless? Thinking back on his time in Paragon, Parrot tried to calm himself. This wasn't his fault—He hadn't meant to... He was just a little parrot who wanted to escape his cage and fly toward freedom.

Before long, Parrot drifted into sleep—After all, it had been a long time since he'd had a peaceful night. The dream pulled him into the warm embrace of someone holding him close. That person always smiled with such loving tenderness, irresistible as an obedient puppy, they stood on a lush green meadow, cool breezes washing away Parrot's weariness.

He felt overwhelmed with happiness beside that person. They always appeared when he needed them, always comforted him when he was lost in the darkness of guilt. They made him feel at ease... They wove a flower crown from the small blooms scattered across the meadow and placed it on his pale green hair. Parrot felt a little shy, then slowly looked up...No... No... NO.

Why couldn't he see their face clearly...?

This is just a nightmare, Parrot... You can't forget his face..........

What he feared still happened, when he tried to let go of the one who had hurt him, when the memories began to fade, deep down he still clung to them desperately....

It had been 304 days since Wifies died... Today was April 28th, and Parrot had finally recovered from his depression and guilt. Since the time he'd locked himself away in that jungle, he had resolved to go out, meet people, make new friends, and reconnect with familiar faces like Theo and Reina. Many significant events in his life had helped him grow stronger day by day.

After spending some time on the Unstable SMP, Parrot visited various servers to meet people and film content with others. But deep down, he knew- he was still running from the past. After all this time, he still couldn't let go, though he gradually forgot the face and voice of that person. Maybe that was for the best, he wouldn't have to struggle so much anymore. But why did it still hurt to realize that?

Parrot saw a message from Flamefrags inviting him to a new server that was about to open, and he immediately agreed to join.

ParrotX2 joined the game

When he opened his eyes, he was surrounded by many players—Parrot was quite surprised. He quickly tried to find Flamefrags among the crowd, because he genuinely felt uncomfortable and uneasy surrounded by so many strangers he didn't know. He looked around but still couldn't find who he was looking for, feeling helpless and letting out a sigh.

So he started observing everyone's skins instead. Most were simple or quite funny, a strip of bacon, a skeleton, a platypus, someone wearing a yin-yang shirt, and someone in a plain white skin—Parrot blinked before realizing who he'd just seen. His eyes widened as he stared in that direction, frozen in place as if he'd seen a ghost.

Ah no, he really was seeing a ghost...

That person had sleek dark brown hair, a purple headband, two perked ears, and a gently wagging tail. Amethyst eyes and a radiant smile—He was laughing and joking with the players around him. Even the outfit matched the one in Parrot's memories. When Parrot saw that face, it was like a long-lost puzzle piece had finally been found, unlocking everything and making their shared memories sharper than ever.

But it didn't make him feel any better—because he knew that person wasn't Wifies. He knew Wifies well enough to sense a strangeness flooding his fragile soul. Yet it couldn't be a random player wearing his skin either? So who exactly was he? His wings drooped, making him look so small here, and he took a step toward that person—Before a hand caught his shoulder.

Parrot flinched and spun around, meeting Flamefrags's confused, raised eyebrow.

Flamefrags: "Seriously... I was looking everywhere for you, and you're standing here like a statue??" He followed Parrot's gaze and was equally shocked: "What the hell-? Isn't that—"

Parrot coughed a few times: "Don't say it out loud! I know what you're thinking... But that's not Wifies."

"Then what? Just some player wearing his skin?" Parrot shook his head again, leaving Flamefrags even more confused. Not Wifies, not a player wearing his skin then what was it? Parrot didn't know either, but he decided he'd figure it out later. For now, they needed to survive.

At first, they played fairly normally, surviving like everyone else. But after just a few days, Flamefrags began his large-scale massacres—Parrot joined in a few times, since he was quite combative. They quickly gained notoriety, but after about a month, Flamefrags grew busy with other work.

Parrot still logged in regularly, continuing to challenge other players—But maybe he'd underestimated the situation. Night fell, but rustling sounds still came from the grass as a group hunted the little parrot. Parrot was currently hiding behind a tree, letting out a breath of relief when they passed into the forest on the other side. He slowly slid down, sitting on the ground. His diamond armor and sword were nearly broken, his body covered in wounds still bleeding, and an arrow had pierced clean through his wing...

Gritting his teeth, Parrot slowly grabbed the arrow shaft and pulled it out in one swift motion. Cold sweat dripped down his forehead. He rummaged through his inventory, no healing potions, no golden apples left. His eyelids drooped with exhaustion—Then he noticed a faint shadow beside him. Instantly alert, he scrambled back and pointed his sword at the figure. The person quickly raised both hands in surrender, smiling warmly.

Parrot recognized him and blurted out: "Wifies?..." The other seemed surprised by his words, tilting his head in confusion: "How do you know my name from the production facility? Have you... met Evilfies before?"

"Production facility? Who's Evilfies... I just misspoke- you just look like an old friend of mine..." The person lowered his guard, finally understanding, and spoke gently.

"Oh, so you've met another Wifies clone? The one from Unstable SMP, right?" Seeing Parrot's bewildered expression, he explained everything—About the production facility for Wifies clones, who Evilfies was, and even that the Wifies Parrot knew had been returned to the facility after being blown up. As for what would happen to this Wifies later, he just shook his head, he didn't know.

Now Parrot understood what Wifies had muttered while drunk about "clones." The person didn't say much more but kindly gave Parrot healing potions and led him back to his base.

Parrot sat on the soft bed, feeling somewhat awkward: "Thank you, Wifies- I don't know what I would've done without you." The other's smile faltered, his expression darkening slightly.

"I know we're all called Wifies, but Parrot- please call me by the name I gave myself. It's Wine. Not Wifies. I have many reasons for not liking being called that..." Parrot fell silent, then nodded in agreement. Wine brightened up again, asking about Parrot's condition and kindly letting him stay until he fully recovered.

During their time living together, Parrot noticed the differences between Wifies and Wine. As his name suggested, Wine enjoyed drinking wine, but it was more of a hobby than an addiction, something to savor in his otherwise dull life. He talked more than Wifies, was quite lazy, and had little interest in brewing potions—Only doing it when necessary.

Despite the differences, his kindness, thoughtfulness, and warm, soothing voice comforted Parrot after his haunting past. And most of all, his appearance and bright smile constantly reminded Parrot of Wifies—So he always felt at ease around Wine, acting the same way he had with Wifies... What was he doing? He didn't even know anymore...

Pouring his feelings into someone he knew wasn't that person? Maybe he had never truly seen Wine as Wine...Only as Wifies. A replacement for the emptiness in Parrot's heart, nothing more... How pathetic...

The two were fishing by a small lake. Parrot was focused, while Wine had been yawning endlessly since they arrived, exhausted. Normally, he'd sleep until noon or afternoon, but last night Parrot had subtly invited him to go fishing to relax, so this was the first time Wine had willingly woken up early. A sense of pride lifted his spirits a bit, and he glanced over—Parrot had already caught two or three fish, while he... well, not so much.

Wine: "Wow, are you a professional fisherman or something? We've been here nearly an hour, and you've got fish while I've got nothing..."

Parrot chuckled: "It's just that Wifies and I used to fish a lot together. Actually, I'm pretty bad at it...Wifies was the one who taught me how to actually catch anything." Wine fell silent, watching Parrot's expression soften as he mentioned Wifies. He found it hard to understand, a strange heaviness settling in his chest.

Wine: "Wifies really was something... Sometimes I feel so inferior to the other clones. Maybe I'm just a failed product."

Parrot: "Not at all! I think you're great at combat, Wine. You can take on five people at once without breaking a sweat, I really admire that."

Wine finally smiled again, glancing at Parrot's still-bandaged wing with concern: "It'll heal properly, right?..."

Parrot: "Hmm? Of course, why do you ask?"

Wine: "You know my skills aren't great... I'm afraid... I might be the reason you won't be able to fly again..."

Parrot fell silent, then shook his head gently: "You're usually so carefree, why are you overthinking this? Don't worry, it's healing really well!"

They chatted back and forth until Wine's fishing rod showed signs of a bite. Wine excitedly stood up, yanking the rod while Parrot cheered him on and finally, he successfully caught the fish.

"Pufferfish?? You've got to be kidding me-?? at least a salmon or a cod would've been nice..." Wine stared at the puffed-up fish on the ground, then kicked it back into the lake in frustration. Seeing his mood sour, Parrot suggested they head home. Watching Wine plop onto the sofa with drooping ears and a gloomy expression, Parrot patted his head comfortingly.

Parrot noticed his expression had softened: "Don't look so sad. How about I cook something with the fish I caught, okay?"

Hearing that, Wine's drooping ears perked up, and his tail wagged slightly as he turned his eager eyes toward Parrot but he couldn't resist teasing.

Wine: "Parrot, if you keep spoiling me like this, what if I turn from a good boy into a naughty boyyy...?"

Parrot just chuckled and headed to the kitchen without a care. Wine bounced off the sofa and followed him in to help.
