For the longest time, May had thought she was the most oblivious person she knew. But Bucky is another level entirely. At this point, she honestly can't tell if he really doesn't realize how utterly gone she is or he's just messing with her.
She's been flirting with him for weeks now. At book club meetings, brunches.. today they're just taking a walk together. Between the flurry and the setting sun, May decided it was a perfect time to go out.
“You know," May says, deciding she may as well take another shot. "It's pretty cold. You should hold my hand, so it doesn’t freeze.”
“I’m not cold," Bucky replies, already pulling his own gloves off. "Here."
May sighs. This is exactly what she's talking about. She smiles anyway, accepting the gloves when he holds them out to her. "Thank you, Bucky."
"Not a problem, doll." There's that nickname again. It always makes May feel all fuzzy, something she hasn't really had since Ben. Bucky shoots her a grin as she slips the gloves on. The smile isn't the widest, never really is, but it's definitely realer than his smiles were when they first met.
Okay, May decides, maybe she can accept his obliviousness so long as he keeps smiling like that.
