Work Text:
The night sky, which you hoped would be filled with stars, was dark and empty with nothing but the moon giving you light. You let out a breath, lying on your back on the cold roof of your apartment building. You were waiting for Tim for your nightly “roof talks” as you called it.
He was late… again. It’s nothing new, but you had hoped he would try a little harder to get there in time. He was Red Robin though, so you couldn’t be too harsh on him. And it’s not like he stood you up or forgot, he probably just got busy.
To distract yourself before you get lost in a spiral, you sit up and reach for your phone. Your thumb hovers over the messages button before you ultimately decide against it, not wanting to bother him. Instead, you go to your favorite music app, find some good dancing music and turn it up. You chuckle to yourself at the thought of what you must look like dancing alone, at night, on a roof.
The songs range from musical numbers to classical symphonies. You might be out of breath, but it’s enough to keep your mind off of the stresses of the life you live.
You’ve just begun singing A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman when a familiar voice cuts you off.
“Do you do this every time I’m late?”
You startle and move to pause the music before turning to face him. He’s leaning against the wall near the door that leads to the stairwell. “And if I do?” You huff, crossing your arms. You can’t help but be a little salty at the fact it took him so long to get here.
His smirk softens at your tone. He pushes off the wall and walks over to you. “At least invite me to dance too.” His hands slide around your waist, tugging you closer. “I’m sorry I took so long. I ran into a few thugs who thought they knew how to be sneaky. It was entertaining to see how far they could get” He murmurs while burying his face in your neck. You shiver as his breath tickles your skin.
“You could’ve texted at least.” You give your best pout, but still bring your arms around his neck. “You’re going to have to make up for this, you know.” A soft hum escapes his lips as he trails gentle kisses up to the pout on your lips.
“I know.” He smiles against your mouth before pulling back. “How about one last dance before we head home?” He takes your hand and spins you once.
You can’t help but smile and laugh. “Okay fine, but we’re finishing the song.” You let go of him to resume A Million Dreams.
You’d think it would be embarrassing or stupid to dance and sing, but when you’re with Tim it feels like none of that matters.
He sings to Hugh Jackman’s part, spinning you and moving like he has all the steps memorized. You’re almost surprised at how he’s not out of breath but then you remember he literally moves constantly for a living.
At the end of the song, you’re panting and slightly sweating, but you’re smiling. Tim holds you close, looking at you with such devotion it almost makes you embarrassed.
“I love you” he whispers, forehead resting gently on yours. His hands slide down to intertwine your fingers together. “I love you too” You smile softly, leaning in to capture his lips in a sweet kiss.
He kisses you back, but with a little more passion. His hands move to cradle the back of your head as he pours his love for you into this moment. You can feel it too, how much he cares. Even when he’s late or makes mistakes, he tries, and it’s only for you.
You pull back, your hand cupping his chin. “I think that made up for it” A small giggle escapes you as his eyes meet yours, mischief dancing in them. “Are you sure? Cause I can think of other things in case it wasn’t enough.” He tilts his head as he leans in again, his voice carrying a hint of desire in it.
Your eyes widen as you step back, lightly hitting his chest “You pervert.” You hold back a chuckle as you walk towards the door to go back down.
“What? I meant I could make you dessert or give you a massage. Get your mind out of the gutter.” He feigns innocence, following you inside and down the staircase with a snicker.
“Well then, maybe just dancing wasn’t enough.” You keep walking like you didn’t just light his body on fire. Once you hear Tim walk a little faster, you book it down the stairs with a giggle.
He’s definitely making it up to you tonight.
