Doting Boyfriends Can Be Hard To Spot

Summary:

“Craig, aren’t you gonna say something?” Token asked worriedly as he kept glancing over at the counter in Tweak Bros’ Coffee.

Some guy was leaning against the counter and occasionally brushing Tweek's arm while using cheesy pick-up lines on him.

Craig glanced up from his phone briefly, blinking a few times, then he looked back down. “No.”

“Y-Y-You don’t c-care that your boy- your boy-“ Jimmy huffed. “That Tweek is g-getting hit on?”

“He can handle himself.” Craig told them all dismissively.

“That’s not…really the point, dude.” Clyde mumbled, glancing back over at Tweek nervously.

OR: Their friends think Craig needs to do better in the boyfriend department. But they don't see the ten thousand ways he makes Tweek happy.

Work Text:

“He’s doing it again…” Clyde mumbled to Token, Jimmy and Timmy. They were stood outside the school, waiting for Tweek to come out so they could all head to the mall.

While they were waiting, Craig had crouched down and started inspecting rocks, picking them up one by one and looking them over.

“Don’t look at me, I dunno what his deal is.” Token shrugged. “He’s been looking at rocks for two weeks now.”

“Timmy!” Timmy’s eyebrows were pinched.

“H-H-He’s right f-fellas, m-maybe Craig is t-taking up geode collecting.” Jimmy suggested.

Clyde raised an eyebrow. “Well I seriously doubt he’s going to find anything that great in the rocks outside South Park high.”

Just then, Craig stood up from his spot, holding up a flat, oval rock. He held it up to the sun, inspecting it one last time and gaining a tiny smile on his face.

“Uh…I guess he found the one?” Token noted awkwardly.

Craig approached them, shoving his hands in his pockets. His smile was gone as quickly as it appeared, leaving him with his neutral expression. “You guys can go on ahead if you want. I’ll wait for Tweek.”

“Uh, okay man, if you’re sure.” Clyde shrugged, looking at the others who were skeptical. But they ultimately agreed and walked away.

A few minutes later, Tweek finally came out of the school and smiled when he saw Craig.

Craig perked up like a puppy, quickly taking the rock out of his pocket. “Look honey.” He held it out to him with a tiny smile. “I found it for you.”

Tweek’s heart absolutely melted. Craig had been really into nature documentaries lately, and they’d seen one about penguins and how penguins find the nicest rocks for their mates. Almost like humans with rings.

He took the rock and looked it over. It was the smoothest, most perfect rock there was.

Craig was looking at him with this expectant expression, bouncing on his toes.

“It’s perfect, Craig.” Tweek grinned. He stood on his toes and kissed Craig’s cheek.

Craig’s cheeks instantly flushed, and he had this proud smile on his lips that reminded Tweek of a golden retriever for some reason.

His boyfriend really was the cutest.

“Craig, aren’t you gonna say something?” Token asked worriedly as he kept glancing over at the counter in Tweak Bros’ Coffee.

The group was all there having coffee while Tweek worked, but this guy had come in, leaned against the counter and refused to take a hint. He kept trying to touch Tweek’s arm or use cheesy pick up lines on him.

Tweek finally snapped at the guy to get out. Thankfully, the man complied with only a few grumbles.

“See?” Craig told them.

He missed the looks his friends all exchanged.

And a few hours later, after they all left and Craig was the only one to linger, they missed the way he came behind the counter with Tweek. They missed the way he hugged him from behind and smushed his face into the nape of his neck while he cleaned up.

Tweek smiled faintly and leaned back against him. “Thanks for not making a scene.”

“Did he touch you?” Craig asked with a small pout, nuzzling Tweek’s hair.

“Only my arm, you big baby.” Tweek teased, reaching a hand up to stroke Craig’s hair to calm him.

After Craig punched a customer who’d tried to hit on Tweek before, they had to make rules about when he was allowed to step in or not at Tweek’s work.

Craig hated it, but at least he got to witness his boyfriend standing up for himself like a badass.

And get sympathy head scratches afterwards.

“So what are your guys plans for the weekend?” Clyde asked over lunch on Friday. “I’m taking Bebe to the movies.”

Token smiled. “Hey, that’s cool, you think Nichole and I could tag along? She’s been begging me to take her out again but I’m shit at thinking of things to do.”

“Yeah man, the more the merrier.” Clyde grinned before looking at their other friends. Tweek was still getting his lunch.

“T-T-Timmy and I’ll c-come along too, fellas.” Jimmy nodded. And Timmy gave a small nod and a cheerful ‘Timmy!’ in agreement.

Clyde beamed. “Cool! Craig, you and Tweek wanna come with?”

Craig didn’t even look up from his phone. “No, Red Racer’s on tomorrow.”

The table fell silent, all staring in disbelief.

“Dude…you can watch that show literally whenever.” Token told him.

“I do watch that show literally whenever.” Craig grumbled. He didn’t understand why people couldn’t grasp this, even years later.

“T-T-Talk about boyfriend of the y-year, huh, fellas?” Jimmy chimed in shamelessly.

But while the group exchanged judgmental looks, Craig was oblivious, playing on his phone until the blonde finally showed up and sat beside him.

“Hey guys! Hey Craig, the vending machine gave me two Kitkats.” Tweek showed him the candy with a big grin.

Craig eyed it for a moment, before huffing. “You’re so annoying.” He looked back at his phone.

He missed the glares he was receiving from everyone at the table besides Tweek.

The next day at Craig’s, their laptop was set up on the bed, and Craig was laying with his head in Tweek’s lap while they watched Red Racer reruns, a tradition the two had formed for the weekends. Tweek absentmindedly stroked Craig’s hair.

“The guys were going on a triple date to the movies.” Craig spoke up casually.

Instantly, Tweek cringed and looked stressed. “Ack! That’s so much pressure though! What if someone gets bored? What if your card gets declined? What if the tickets don’t work or they’re booked for the wrong day? I hate going to the movies! Why is that such a common date suggestion!?”

“Honey, you’re not the one at the movies, calm down.” Craig reminded him easily, nuzzling into his stomach.

Tweek took some deep breaths. “R-Right, sorry. I just feel bad that we can never go to the movies cause of me…”

“I don’t really like going to movies either.” Craig shrugged. “This is much better.”

Tweek smiled widely, leaning down to press a kiss to Craig’s hair.

A few moments of content silence passed, before Tweek spoke up again. “By the way, Kitkats are still the best.”

“Fuck you.” Tweek burst out laughing. They have this candy debate almost weekly and now Tweek goes out of his way to bring Craig Kitkat bars just to bug him.

“Sit down. We’re having an intervention.” Clyde told Tweek firmly when they saw him at school Monday morning.

Tweek looked at his friends with wide eyes, timidly sitting down on the picnic table outside.

Token took a deep breath. “Tweek, we all love Craig, and we know he can be a little…”

“I-I-In his own w-world.” Jimmy stated bluntly.

“But we think the way he treats you is too far, man.” Clyde snapped. “And we’re seriously starting to wonder if we need to step in.”

Tweek stared, utterly speechless and confused. He blinked rapidly. His boyfriend treated him like a damn king, what the hell were they on about?

Before Tweek could give them the what for and demolish them for dissing his boyfriend, said boyfriend ran up to them quickly, looking pissed off to others but to Tweek he just looked pouty.

“Honey! You said you’d try harder to wear warmer clothes. We bought you that hat and everything.” Craig scolded.

Tweek’s eyes widened at the reminder, growing sheepish. “I was going to but I had to finish this paper for school and then my parents needed help at the shop and then-“

Without letting him finish, Craig grumpily put his chullo on Tweek’s head, making sure it was on securely. “You always do this, you know.” He scolded lightly. “I’m going inside, I’m cold. Don’t stay out here too long.” With that, Craig headed inside.

Tweek turned back to their friends to see them all staring with wide eyes and dropped jaws.

“Did…Did he just give you his chullo?” Clyde asked dumbly.

“He did.” Tweek nodded, fighting back a smile.

“But…he never lets anyone borrow that thing. He’s held onto it since he was like eight.” Token stammered.

Tweek eyes twinkled knowingly, unable to hide his grin this time. “Yeah. I know. And to answer your question from before, I think the way Craig treats me is just fine. Do me a favor and stay out of it next time.” He sassed them before heading inside to find Craig.

His friends stayed outside dumbly for a few moments.

“Holy shit, Craig’s like…in love in love.” Clyde realized in utter disbelief.

“Dibs on being best man at their wedding.” Token announced, which immediately caused a fight to break out amongst the group.

Craig raised an eyebrow when Tweek came up to him at the lockers, grinning from ear to ear. “Why are you looking at me like that? Your face looks weird.”

Tweek just grinned harder at his bluntness. He hugged him tightly and smushed his face into his chest. “I love you.”

Craig didn’t hug him back right away, stood there with his arms awkwardly out to the sides. After a few moments, he returned the hug and slowly sunk into it.

“I love you too, honey.”

Tweek had won the boyfriend jackpot, and nobody could ever convince him otherwise.
