As he paused to drink from his water bottle, Akechi noticed a strange noise coming from behind the bushes lining the bike path winding through the park. The horrid sound reminded him of an animal writhing its final death throe.
Bracing himself for an unpleasant sight, Akechi pushed through the brambles, only to find Yusuke Kitagawa hunched over in the grass.
Akechi watched, mesmerized, as Yusuke continued to wretch, coughing and sputtering as he spit up into the grass. Unfocused eyes glanced up toward Akechi, forcing him to realize that he had been staring like some sort of stalker lurking in the bushes.
“I was just passing by and heard someone in the bushes. Who would have guessed it would be one of Kurusu-kun’s friends? Here, you should drink something.” Akechi crouched beside Yusuke, offering his bottle of water. “I heard the flu has been going around-”
“Foraging…” Yusuke huffed, collecting himself. “I was forging for mushrooms, but I seem to have mistaken my varieties…”
As Yusuke raised his head to grasp the bottle, Akechi couldn’t help but notice the deep flush in his cheeks, trail of saliva clinging to the corner of his lips.
“Keep the bottle,” Akechi croaked.
