Work Text:
It’s a bit past two in the morning and Harry is switching through every channel possible on Jude’s TV, trying to ease his increasing worry.
Harry is in Jude’s flat, he had arrived earlier in the morning, he was surprisingly given a few days off and he bought a ticket to Madrid the same day. It’s a bit impulsive he’s not going to lie, but they didn’t get to meet each other that often so he’s not wasting this chance.
He strolls to the kitchen to make himself some coffee because he’s not sure if he could stay awake for much longer. His eyes kept checking the clock, he’d been waiting for the sound of Jude’s key on the lock the whole night.
The sound never came though, he sighed, maybe he should’ve took Jude himself earlier.
Jude had went out with his Madrid team mates hours ago. They’d just won an important match so they all decided to celebrate. Harry just knew they will be drinking so he had offered to drop Jude off.
But the boy was stubborn, “I’ll be fine Harry, you rest and just wait here for me. I’ll be back before midnight okay?” Jude kissed him after he said that, maybe that’s why Harry had let him took the car key from his hand.
Looking back, it is quite a stupid move for Harry to let Jude go. It’s past midnight already, and Jude had to drive himself home on top of that.
Harry kept going back and forth about whether he should ring Jude or not. Part of him wanted to trust Jude and believed that he would be sensible enough to not drink too much. But he’d seen enough of Jude during celebrations with the England squad to worry that the boy would get carried away, especially during winning celebrations like this.
He is still contemplating when his phone rang, he reaches out instantly to see who’s calling at this hour (hoping that it’s Jude)
It’s Trent.
Yeah, something is definitely up.
Harry took a deep breath, preparing for the worst, before answering the call.
“Hello?”
“Hey skip, sorry for ringing you this late,” Harry could still hear cheers and music from the call, it eases him a bit. At least they’re still inside and Jude is not in danger, or being the source of danger.
“No problem mate, do you need anything?”
“Well, yeah actually. Jude’s pretty wasted. I’ve been with him the entire night, and he drank, a lot.”
“He’s clearly not in any state to drive, if I knew he drove here I’d stop him, really.”
Harry lets him talk, already guessing where this conversation would lead to.
Trent hesitates a bit, “And, uh, he kind of blurted out to me that you’re currently in town, so can you like… pick him up?”
“It’s so late already and I couldn’t think of anyone else trusty enough to bring him home.”
“Send me the location.”
“On it. Thanks a lot skip.”
Harry was already on his feet when Trent gave him the name of the bar, it’s a short drive actually. He pulled on a Jacket and ordered an Uber.
He got into the Uber and thank God the driver didn’t recognize him. Harry’s eyes wanders to the still busy roads, while spinning his mind trying to think of a way to escort Jude out without being noticed by Jude’s other team mates.
Then the Uber pulled up outside the bar, it was a short five minutes drive, and is simple enough for Harry to memorize.
He stepped out into the cold Madrid night, he checked the bar in front of him with the location that Trent had sent. It matches.
Harry decided to ring Trent again. Maybe he could help drag Jude out and minimize the chaos that could happen if Harry went inside.
He doesn’t answer, of course.
Harry rings again, Trent still doesn’t answer.
Harry bets he looks like a mental person walking in a circle in front of a bar while calling someone.
He thought third time is the charm, so he rings once again.
It went straight to voicemail.
Harry sighs and ruffles his hair, the texts he sent also went unread. Why didn’t he tell Trent when they’re on the phone earlier? Damn it, there’s nothing he could do.
Should he just fuck it and go inside? He was actually fine with it if it was only Jude’s close mates. There were a few guys Jude kept mentioning every time they video called, and they probably already knew anyway, since Jude would occasionally let something slip about Harry around them.
But instead, the whole squad is there. It’s impossible for them to not recognize Harry, no matter how drunk they are.
He contemplate a bit before deciding to just fuck it, he’d figure out the consequences later. Now, he just needs to quickly find Jude and bring the boy home.
Harry puts on his formal and professional smile before pushing the door. He immediately feel the stares, he ignores them as he scanned the room for Jude. He find him slumped on the table across the rom, between Trent and Vinicius. The two of them talking and laughing while also keeping their eye on Jude who’s clearly wasted but still trying to steal Trent’s liquor.
Harry made his way to them, while giving small nods and smiles to anyone that he made eye contact with.
He reaches the table and patted Trent’s shoulder “Hey, Trent,” He also raises his hand at Vinicius that gave him a smile back.
Trent turned around and he’s surprised, “Skip? When did you-”
Harry smiles and he squeezes Trent’s shoulder quite hard, “Rang you three times and you didn’t answer. Very kind of you, really.”
“Shit, my phone is in my bag, I’m sorry H…”
Jude perks up when he hears Harry’s name mentioned, and his whole face lights up when he sees Harry actually standing there.
“Harry!!” He scrambles out of his seat and throws himself onto Harry’s arm before Trent or Vinicius can get a hold of him. “You’re hereee, you came!!”
Harry catches him, and Jude holds him tighter, rubbing their cheeks together with a goopy grin painted across his face.
Even Trent can feel the eyes on them now. Well, who wouldn’t stare? There are two big questions here; first, why is Harry Kane, a Bayern Munich player, in Madrid in the middle of the season? And second, why is Jude all snuggled up in his arms and Harry acts like it’s completely normal?
Harry pushes Jude a bit, an attempt to try and lessen the gossip that may happen.
Jude doesn’t like that. He pouts and burrows his head deeper into the crook of Harry’s neck, “Why did you push me awaayyy? You don’t like me anymore, Harry?”
It’s loud enough that Harry thanks God no one heard what Jude said.
Trent did though, and he decides that they need to go before Jude does or say something even more scandalous than this.
“I’ll handle the situation here, skip. You can go.”
Harry nods and fixes the hold he got on Jude, “Yeah. Thank you for calling Trent.”
“You need help?”
“Nah its okay, I got him.”
Trent doesn’t look convinced and ends up accompanying them to the door, and it actually helps Harry avoid having to answer any unnecessary questions.
“Drive safe skip. Sorry for disturbing you.”
“Cheers mate, you get home safely too.”
They part ways, and Harry finally shifts his attention to the boy in his arms. He’s still all smiley and clingy. Harry chuckles and ruffles his hair, “You’re making me go through a lot of trouble, you know?”
Jude only giggles at that, “That just mean you cared about meee.”
“Yeah, I do. Now where’s your key?”
“In my pocket.”
“Which one?”
“I don’t know.”
Harry searches for the key, Jude lets Harry manhandles him.
He finds it an opens the car, Harry eases Jude to the passenger seat first, buckling his seat belt.
“I miss you,” Jude mumbles, “I miss you so sooo much, why did you let me go out? You’re meaaannn.”
Harry doesn’t respond. He closes the door gently, walks around to the driver’s side, gets inside, and starts the engine.
“Heeyy, don’t ignore me!!”
“I told you not to take the car.”
“I don’t want to hear you nagging me.”
“It’s for your safety.”
Jude humps and crosses his arms.
“Are you listening to me?”
“No.”
Harry sighs again, taking one hand off the steering wheel to reach for Jude. His fingers gently caress Jude’s cheek.
“I’m worried, Jude.”
Jude leans into the touch, he turns his head and kisses Harry’s palm, “Mmm, maybe it was my fault. Don’t be mad at me, I’m sowwyyy.”
“I’m not.”
“Okay. Thank you Harry.”
Harry laughs, the boy is speaking nonsense, “For what?”
“I dunno, for being alive?”
“You’re welcome, then.”
The rest of the ride is silent because Jude is trying his best to not fall asleep. But he still ended up sleeping though.
They arrived and Harry can’t bring himself to wake Jude up.
Harry decides it’s late enough that no one would saw them. So he carefully carries Jude inside, slipping one arm beneath his knees and the other around his back. He makes sure not to wake the boy.
Harry opens the door and lays Jude comfortably on the sofa. He heads back to the car to check if they’ve left anything behind, only returning inside once he’s double-checked everything.
He goes back inside to see Jude still soundly sleeping. He still doesn’t want to wake him up, but he also doesn’t want Jude to sleep in a sweaty shirt.
So Harry shakes him gently, calling out to him, “Jude.”
Jude wakes up immediately, much to Harry’s surprise, “Mhmmm? What?”
“You should change first.”
“I caannnttt.”
“You cant?”
“Yess.”
“…Why?”
“I dunno.”
“Jude…”
“Help me change.”
“Really now?”
“If you don’t want then no change.”
Harry shakes his head, he’s much harder to handle when he’s drunk isn’t he?
He ends up helping Jude with everything. He carries him to bed, changes his clothes, puts away his belongings, and even charges his phone.
Whilst Jude is smiling like an idiot the whole time.
Harry locks the door to Jude’s bedroom and finally lies down beside him. It’s been a long night for him, really. He tries his best not to think about what kind of gossip might spread among the Madrid players.
But that’s more of Jude’s problem. He might as well take some punishment for being so reckless.
His thoughts is interrupted when he feels a Jude’s arm hugging him from beside. Harry smiles and scooted closer to him. He rests one of his arms below Jude’s head, because Jude’s loves to make Harry’s biceps as his pillow.
Jude snuggles to Harry’s chest. Harry gives a kiss to his curls in return.
“Sleep, Jude.”
“No, I wan’t cuddles.”
“Your eyes are half closed already.”
“Don’t care.”
Jude kisses the side of Harry’s neck, then his cheek. He nuzzles there, Jude also loves the feeling of Harry’s beard on his face.
“Stay here forever, don’t go back to Munich. Stay here with me, yeah?”
“I’ll be a good boy, I won’t cause any troubles, pinky promiseee.”
Harry’s chest tightened with something warm and helpless. He chuckles softly.
“You’re ridiculous,” He says, but his voice is fond.
Jude only hummed and kisses Harry, a proper one, on the lips. His lips tasted faintly of whatever liquor he had drank. Harry let him, one hand settling on the small of Jude’s back.
“Love you,” Jude murmurs against his mouth between kisses, “Love you so much. You’re the best. I’m sorry for worrying you, I love yoouuu Harry.”
Harry smiles, “I love you too, Jude.”
Jude giggles and smooches Harry’s cheek one more time before going back to his side.
Harry pulls up the blanket to cover the both of them and tucked Jude closer. Jude has his leg wrapped around Harry too now.
“You’re going to have a killer hangover tomorrow if you don’t sleep now, you know.”
“Don’t care, I have you.”
“Of course.”
“And I have no practice tomorrow.”
“Alright, I wont wake you up then.”
“Good. Don’t leave me ‘kay?”
“Alright.”
Harry can feel Jude slowly drifting off to sleep as his breathing steadies. He kisses Jude’s temple and relaxes further into the hug before softly whispering to him, “Good night, love.”
Jude smiles at the nickname, his favorite.
“Night, Harry. I love you, so much.”
