    Naim sees him before Ryan does, reaching down and clutching Ryan’s hand tightly. Ryan whips his head up to see what made Naim react so suddenly, eyes adjusting to the sunlight. Then his vision focuses, right on Hunter, who stares at the two of them from the end of the garden, face pale. He looks between the shed and the two boys, mouth agape, then turns on his heel and runs. Ryan and Naim stand frozen, hand in hand, as Hunter’s footsteps disappear into the distance. Ryan exhales. “Well fuck.”
