    Zanka was expected to be perfect, but he wasn't, and that was unacceptable.

    The Nijiku family producing anything less than a prodigy — and a complete failure at that? The world was bound to whisper degrading remarks about them. Their reputation would be ruined — no longer would they be marveled in a sense of unobtainable desire.

    They made the quick decision to make sure no one ever found out. If Zanka was not naturally gifted, they would carve the skills into him.

    “We’re sending you to join the cleaners,” his father studied him closely, clearly gauging his reaction.

    “There are only two outcomes here. You either get good enough to find your way home or you die trying,” the sentence was given with a stone cold gaze, a look leaving no room for argument.

    This was a death sentence.

     

    OR; Zanka is trained to be nothing but a perfect, loyal dog, and Enjin never meets him at the well.
