slowly steadily missing

Summary:

“Hello? Mira? Is everything okay?” she swore she also heard Zoey sobbing through the other line but didn’t say anything.

“It’s Zoey. She’s wailing and crying. I don’t even know what’s wrong. I tried to get her to take deep breaths and she keeps crying.”

“He gone!” Zoey wailed, which grabbed Mira’s attention from the phone.

“Who’s missing?”

OR

Zoey misplaced her favorite turtle plush, causing her to drop. Mira and Rumi help her find it.

Notes:

nobody_knows07: I have been loving this series. I find so much comfort in these. Have you ever thought about the girls interacting with each other when they're not little, if that makes sense? like Cargiver Rumi and adult headspace Mira, but little Zoey? I don't know if thats make sense, sorry again.

Okay I actually love this idea, I’ll probably also do CG Rumi and adult headspace Zoey, but little Mira real soon.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Couch couch couch,” Mira whispered that chant to herself, closing the door behind her as she was finished with her long photoshoot.

Safe to say she was exhausted and didn’t even bother with a shower as she immediately plopped onto their white couch, letting out a big and content slice .

Despite those long and dreadful hours, they always paid off. Mira would end up looking amazing and she usually ends up getting booked more gigs.

Not even five minutes in to rest her eyes, the dancer swore she heard crying which woke her up in a flash.

“I’m awake!” She shouted to no one, getting up from her spot. She slightly tripped over the cuff of her black low rise cargos before scattering to where she heard the cry and BINGO! It was Zoey’s room.

Zoey was spotted laying flat on the floor and sobbing her poor heart out. It was unknown to Rumi that she had dropped while Rumi was out for a run since Zoey was in her adult mindset when she had left.

Mira didn’t even bother to knock which is something she would normally do, but not when the maknae was sobbing hysterically.

“Zoey! What’s wrong?” Mira didn’t even bother waiting for an answer as she completely
invited herself inside and was down on her knees to meet Zoey’s level.

When Zoey was upset in little space, she had a hard time with words either being minimal or she’s been nonverbal before but nonverbal was very rare. Of course she would actively try to express what’s wrong but some days depending on the situation it was just hard to.

“Hey sweetie, let’s take a deep breath okay?” Mira suggested, coaching her.

If Zoey were in her adult headspace and having a panic attack, she would’ve followed suit but since she’s in her little space, she continued to cry into Mira’s chest. Mira sighed out of helplessness, hugging the little one. She was fortunate to have her phone in her pocket as she pulled out to call Rumi.

Meanwhile, Rumi was in the middle of her run when her phone rang.

“Hello?

“Ickle..”

Rumi’s eyes widened at hearing the name of Zoey’s favorite turtle plush and also the way her maknae sounded. That means she dropped while she wasn’t even home. This made her worry but she couldn’t focus on that right now.

“Pickle?? Oh no, not Pickle!”

The reason Zoey named her favorite turtle plushie Pickle was well…she really likes pickles. On more than one occasion, she’s eaten an entire jar in one sitting. She always asked for them out at restaurants either on the side or in a sandwich, it didn’t matter. She wasn’t picky.

“Can you come home? It doesn’t feel right for me to leave her here while I look for him,” Mira requested which Rumi nodded immediately.

“Yeah of course! I’ll be right there.”

With her half demon powers, Rumi teleported to Zoey’s bedroom within seconds. Normally Zoey would find this cool but with being little and in a panicked state, it scared her. The little one wailed even louder and sat up, scooting to the edge of her bed, accidentally hitting her head which made matters worse.

Rumi kneeled down to the little girl, kissing the bumped spot on her head as Mira got up to look for the plushie.

“Hey baby, I’m sorry. Mommy didn’t mean to scare you. I thought you liked it, or maybe you only like it when you’re big,” she chuckled lightly before getting serious again.

“Do you remember where you last put it?” the caregiver asked, but Zoey shook her head.

“Well it’s not in here,” Mira stated, after closing a drawer. “I can’t find it anywhere in here.” the dancer then kneeled down as well. “Zoey, why don’t we track our steps? Where were you before you realized you lost Pickle?”

“Ummmm…” Zoey let out a shaky hum as she took a second to think.

Rumi looked at her with love and care as her hand was placed at the back of Zoey’s head, rubbing it gently.

The maknae pointed down at the floor meaning she was right here and in her room when she realized it.

Mira hummed, thinking that didn’t help much. “Okay…”

Just then, Zoey let out a gasp. “Potty!”

“You need to go potty?” Rumi asked softly.

The little one shook her head and pointed to her own bathroom.

“Ooohhhh maybe you left him in the bathroom?” Rumi asked again.

“I’ll check!” Mira exclaimed, checking said bathroom.

While Mira was looking, Rumi kept on with her duty to calm down her baby girl by rocking her on her lap and luckily it worked but Zoey was still sniffling.

“It’s okay aegiya, we’ll find him. He’s definitely in the penthouse somewhere. We know that for sure.”

“Found him!” Mira shouted, running out of Zoey’s bathroom with the plush in hand, arm up in victory.

“Awesome! Where?”

“Under her sink.”

“Find Ickle?” Zoey asked.

“Yes baby, look!” Rumi exclaimed with excitement.

Just then, Zoey perked up and made grabby hands while squealing.

Rumi sighed in relief that Pickle was found and Zoey was finally happy.

“Well, I need to shower but what about we have a movie night, hm? Something kid friendly for our little one?” Rumi suggested, pointing at Zoey.

“I need to change first, but I’m so down,” Mira replied.

“What do you think, Zo?” Rumi asked turning to the little girl who in response squealed again, clapping her hands.

Rumi smiled, picking her up and leading her to the couch while Mira went her own separate way to her room so she could get out of her day clothes and join the other two on the couch.
