Chapter Text
It had been a long time since Hummer first met Wifies. It had been a long time since he fell in love with the voice on the other side of the screen. It had been a long time since they started dating. And now it wouldn't be long until they met in person for the very first time.
Hummer had never thought of himself as much of a romantic, but as he stood in a florist shop in Boston he knew that he had become one.
A crumpled scrap of paper with the research notes he had taken about what kind of flowers to get Wifies was held gingerly in his hand. He didn't want to do something overdone, so he went down a rabbit hole to find flowers with meanings that could have some significance to them.
"Excuse me," he said to the woman behind the counter. "You do custom bouquets here, right?"
"We do. Is there anything you need in particular?" she customer service smiled at him.
"Er, yes, I have a list here. It's alright if you don't have some of these, I know it's unusual."
The worker, whose name tag said Reyna, took the paper from Hummer and skimmed the nine flowers listed.
"This is an odd batch," she observed.
"There's meaning in them. For me and my boyfriend," he took the paper back from her as he said it.
"Look, we can't get edelweiss or passionflower, is that okay?"
"Yes, that's fine. Um, when should I come by to pick it up?"
Reyna filled him in on when he should come back and had him pay $75 for the arrangement, plus extra for rush. Hummer walked out of the shop with a lighter wallet and a small feeling of regret for the situation he had gotten himself into. He was on the other side of the Atlantic from his home, on his way to surprise his boyfriend and hadn't brought enough money for the States. They don't even include taxes in the prices! Mental!
He shook his head and pulled out his phone to call said boyfriend, only for Wifies to call him first.
"Hummer! You'll never guess where I am," crackled the voice on the other end of the line.
"Where are you? I could say the same to you," Hummer smiled into his phone.
"London! Where are you?"
"Oh. Well, funny story. I'm in Boston."
The silence on the phone line between them was deafening.
"I was coming to surprise you," Wifies said.
"So was I. What do we do now?"
"My ticket back isn't for another two days. Do you have a place to stay planned?"
Hummer sighed. "I do. My plane back is in a week, so maybe we could spend a few days together in Boston once you get back?"
"Sounds like a plan. Maybe I should have told you that I was gonna come over so we could have avoided this."
"I also should have done that. See you in a few days. Love you."
Hummer waited for the echoed farewell before hanging up and sitting down on the nearest bench, head in his hands. What had he gotten himself into?
