Work Text:
I wake up feeling like I got hit by a truck. I can feel my shirt sticking to my back and my body feels like it’s on fire.
Maybe that’s an exaggeration. I stick one foot out from under the covers in an attempt to cool off. As much as the cold air feels great it doesn’t help any.
I throw the covers off of myself entirely and on top of Mirio. He lets out a sleepy little noise. I glance at the clock. Six in the morning.
I had just gotten home an hour ago from patrol and he has to get up soon.
I slowly sit up. Maybe I’m dehydrated. I didn’t drink a whole lot yesterday that could be the problem.
Once fully sitting up my head decides to start pounding and nausea rises in my throat.
Great.
Mirio shifts slightly. “You ok?” He grumbles his voice rough with sleep.
“Mhm,”
I look over at him to see he has his eyes open watching me. “Doesn’t look like it,” he responds with.
I choose not to answer that as I get out of bed which is a mistake because dizzyness immediately hits me. I catch myself on the nightstand before falling back down on the bed. Mirio sits up. “I’m going to call out,”
“I’m fine;” I protest.
“You’re currently laying in a heap on the bed. You are not fine,”
The bed shifts as he gets out and comes over to me. He helps me lay down on my back. “I’m going to check your temperature, then you’re going to shower that might help you feel better,” I blink at him.
“I don’t feel like standing,”
“We’ll figure it out when we get there,” he informs me before leaving the room.
I opt to curl up on my side. The pillow feels way harder than it should and nothing feels comfortable. Mirio comes back a minute later with a thermometer. “Open up,” he says softly turning me back onto my back.
I attempt to glare at him but I open my mouth. He slips the thermometer under my tongue. It beeps a second later. “100.6,” he announces removing the device.
Then he hands me two pills and a glass of water. He knows that I hate pills. “We’re out of the liquid,” he informs me.
“I don’t want it,” I grumble.
“Come on it will help with the fever,” he says, helping me sit up so I can take it. I drink half the water with the pills and still somehow almost manage to choke on them.
He rubs between my shoulder blades for a minute before speaking again. “Come on let’s get you in the shower,”
“Hot,” I mumble, as I attempt to lean against him, but he’s too far and I almost fall over. Instead he picks me up bridal style. I rest my head against his chest and clothes my eyes.
Why does his chest feel softer then the pillow? “I’ll make sure that water is cool,” then we’re in the bathroom. He sits me down on the closed toilet lid and helps me undress then puts me in the bathtub where the water is already running.
I didn’t notice. “How’s the temperature?” He asks as he brings the nuzzle down. The cold water hits my foot. And while it’s freezing it also feels good.
“Feels good,” he nods and slowly sprays the water over my body and hair. He also helps me wash the sweat from my body. And by helps I mean he does all of it.
Once finished he drys me off and puts me in fresh pajamas. Then he carries me back to bed and makes sure I’m settled. “Do you need anything?” He asks brushing my hair out of my face.
“Sleep,”
He smiles. “Ok, if you need anything let me know,” he then kisses the top of my head and starts walking away. The pillow is still too hard.
Maybe… he would let me lay on him?
“Mirio?” I ask. He stops walking and turns to look at me. That smile still on his face.
“Yes?”
“Can I lay on you?”
“Yes,” he gets in on the other side of the bed and lays down on his back. I shift so my head is resting against him chest and I turn on my side slightly. “Better?”
“Mhm,” I answer closing my eyes as I shift against him more.
He’s comfortable and then just like that I drift off to sleep.
