Castle Library

Summary:

Dane loves books and reading, Finn doesn’t share that same love.

Old Books

Work Text:

The library at the Lunare castle was large, larger than what Dane was used to at his own castle. There were so many books in here, Dane didn’t know anyone could ever read everything that was in here. But it was where he liked to spend his time. Finn knew this, so when he was done his meeting he made his way through the castle, towards the library. Dane was just where Finn expected to find him; curled up in one of the chairs, book on his lap and one candle gently flickering beside him. Finn never understood the appeal of the library. To him it just smelt like old books and dust. He never came in here unless he absolutely had to, but over the last couple months he’s been spending more and more time in here.

“You know there are other rooms in the castle you can explore.” Finn said, dropping into the chair opposite Dane’s. Dane didn’t lift his head for a few moments, finishing up the page he was on before gently closing the book and looking up so he could look in Finn’s eyes.

“I like it in here. There’s so many books to read, and so much bigger than the library in my own castle. It’s peaceful in here.”

“It smells.”

“I like it.”

“You would like the smell of mold and dirt.”

“It’s not mold and dirt. It’s knowledge and history and stories. It’s nice in here, cozy. You would know if you sat down one of these days and read one of the books in here with me.”

“No thank you. I’m good. I’ll just sit here and watch you read. It’s a good view to have.” Finn got himself comfortable in the chair opposite, content with watching the other man read across from him. Dane smiled at the other man, he knew Finn wasn’t a reader but having this time together was more than enough. Dane reached his leg out, ankles locking together to keep contact between the two while he read in peace.
