Chapter Text
The blonde young man was sitting on his bed, eyes closed in thought. Or so would people think if they saw him.
He was simply waiting for a change in the atmosphere, which would happen any moment now.
“Naoya Zen’in?”
There it was.
The blonde looked up, piercing eyes fixed on the old man who was standing outside of his quarters. “What?”
The man bowed his head. “I regret to inform you that Naobito Zen’in just passed away in his sleep. I offer you my humblest condolences, sir.”
Naoya hopped off the bed, heaving a deep sigh. “Figured. That old man was getting on in years…and with the amount of alcohol he consumed? Expected.”
He eyed the other man again. “When will the reading commence?”
The old man looked a bit taken aback at his apparent lack of grief after losing his father. “Yes…Masters Ogi and Jinichi are waiting for you. Master Naobito requested that all three of you be present for his will to be read.”
Naoya grinned haughtily at that. An audience? This should be good.
“Lead the way, old man.”
“If there are no objections, I will now read the will.”
Naoya side-eyed Ogi and Jinichi, fighting a smirk. He knew the outcome before the old man…Furudate, his name was, even though he was small and insignificant…even said it.
“‘The 27th Head of the Zen’in Clan is to be Naoya Zen’in. Naoya is to inherit all assets, including the cursed tools stored in the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School and the Zen’in Family Cursed Warehouses.’”
Triumph coursed through Naoya’s body, almost at hyperspeed. He grinned in the direction of his family members, who were staring at him with very blatant dislike.
Whatever. He was their boss now. Just as he deserved.
“‘Upon approval by either Ogi Zen’in or Jinichi Zen’in, Naoya may take over all duties.’”
Naoya raised his eyebrows at that, caught off guard for once. Ogi and Jinichi exchanged a glance, but didn’t say anything.
“Is there anything else?” Jinichi asked instead, looking utterly bored with it all.
Furudate scanned the rest of the will, muttering under his breath. Naoya grew suspicious of how long the old man was taking.
Finally, he scoffed. “Hand it over,” he demanded. He snatched the flimsy paper from Furudate’s hands, ignoring his noise of objection. He read the following paragraph carefully, the comprehension not setting in until it was done.
He waved the paper in Furudate’s face. “What is this?!” he said hotly.
“What is it, boy?” Ogi asked, still wearing an expression of contempt.
Naoya gestured to the paragraph in question and read it aloud. “‘If Satoru Gojo has died or become mentally incapacitated for any reason, a written agreement concluded with Toji Fushiguro will welcome Megumi Fushiguro into the Zen’in Clan, whereupon he shall become the Head of the Zen’in Clan and all assets shall pass to him.’”
Naoya turned to the older Zen’ins, white-hot fury making him see red. “Who is this Megumi Fushiguro?! Why would he have become the head if Gojo had died?!”
“Megumi Fushiguro is the son of Toji Fushiguro and the wielder of the Ten Shadows technique, as well as the only wielder to ever tame Mahoraga,” Ogi monotoned. “He’s a certified special-grade and one of the sorcerers who defeated Ryomen Sukuna six months ago. And word has spread…he came from the future.”
“Preposterous!” Naoya retorted. “But if he’s the son of Toji…this means he is a Zen’in, no?”
“Correct,” Ijichi replied. “Naobito-san and Toji agreed to a trade: if Megumi Fushiguro inherited the Ten Shadows technique, he would be brought to the Zen’in Clan, and Toji would receive compensation. However, the trade was never completed due to Toji’s untimely death and —”
“Satoru Gojo’s interference,” Naoya all but snarled, crushing the will in his fist. “He wrongfully butted in, snatching away what would have been our most valuable asset. With that special-grade on our side, regardless of whether he came from the future or not…the other clans would’ve fallen at our feet.
“That high-and-mighty sorcerer interfered in Zen’in Clan matters,” Naoya continued hotly. He looked towards Ogi and Jinichi. “Where is Fushiguro now?”
“Jujutsu High,” Ogi replied. “Naoya…what do you plan on doing?”
Naoya waved him off. “Don’t you worry about that. I’m the Head, which means you follow my orders. I don’t need your permission for anything, even if Father said I did.”
The blonde cracked his knuckles, malice glittering in his eyes. “We’re reclaiming what’s ours. That’s all.”
