Work Text:

Pluma's hands were shaking as she approached the house, drained from another day of failure. She gave a long, drawn out sigh. The rune had malfunctioned again, activating prematurely and draining most of her energy without doing anything else. It was incredibly frustrating.

At least it hadn't exploded in her face and sent her to Lacroa this time.

Her uncle, Bakunetsumaru, greeted her inside, seeing the exhaustion plain as day in her eye, and proceeding to fuss over her like he always did.

She brushed off his concerns - just like she always did - and was sidestepping him to go to her room and get the precious sleep her body craved when her hearing began to suddenly ring.

She wobbled, reaching out with a hand to brace herself on the wall.

Pluma felt her bond with her uncle sharpen with alarm as her legs abruptly collapsed out from beneath her, and the young knight narrowly avoided cracking her head on the floor.

Pulled into her uncle's arms, she heard him muttering in exasperation and worry while he lifted her. He carried her to her room, settling her as she quickly gave in to the darkness creeping in from the corners of her vision.

She didn't wake for two days, and when the young gundam did - bleary, sore, and incredibly hungry - Bakunetsumaru and his wife scolded her about pushing herself too hard. They cared about her deeply, she knew that, but sometimes. . .

Pluma was already planning on what she would need to do next with her rune. She just needed a little more time. She was so close.
