Summary
Verity had been so excited to be sent on a one-way flight to establish a colony on a planet 120 years away, but when his cryostasis fails, Verity is left awake and alone on the ship. Worse, he had only been asleep for 30 years. Now faced with the impossible task of repairing the sleep pod, Verity battles with loneliness and a lack of the technical skills he needs.
Eventually, comes a point with Verity so desperate, he breaks Mob’s sleep pod and wakes him up. But Mob doesn’t know this wasn’t simply chance, and Verity’s not sure he can live with himself as the villain.

Really interesting take on these two.
Verity’s cryopod malfunctions, waking him up hundreds of years before the ship will reach its destination. Out of desperation to live, Verity wakes one of the engineers on the ship who studied underneath him and is likely to be able to help (Mob), unknowingly(?)breaking his pod in the process.Dynamic is slightly flipped (Mob is a lot more light-hearted, and Verity is difficult to bring out of his shell) but they’re still true to character.
Whispy is a cool bartender robot in this.Would read if it were its own novel.
