Chapter 1: intro

Chapter Text

There are 8 forms of obsession.

There’s the protector, the silent, the defender, the romantic, the paranoid, the heart, the realist, and the believer.

Eight different ways to love.

Eight different ways to care.

Eight ways that someone may experience becoming slowly consumed by something with their every being until they can’t imagine a life without it.

Some people think that obsession is ugly.

It’s “desperation,” “possession.”

Jealousy.

They always imagine something dark.

But what if it’s just devotion?

Something as simple as a promise?

Sometimes, it looks like eight boys standing beneath thousands of lights, smiling until their cheeks hurt as they look out into the crowd of faces who made them who they are.

“STAY!”

The name echoes throughout the stadium.

Tens of thousands of voices echoed back screams of excitement, all answering at once. The sound was amazingly deafening.

Felix laughed, eyes already beginning to shine as he picks out familiar faces standing at barricade and waves to them. Hyunjin threw an arm around Changbin, smiling as the fans screamed even louder.

Seungmin shook his head towards the two. “You’re encouraging them.”

Hyunjin smiled back, “I know.”

And at the center of it all, stood the leader. Quietly taking in all the lights, banners, handmade signs and merchandise. Slowly he picked up his mic to remind the crowd:

“I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this.”

The crowd screamed again, embracing every word of the man who gave up all of his life for his love of music, performing, his team members, and mostly— his fans.

“Thank you,” he started, his voice softer now. “For Staying with us.”

Eight boys.

Millions of fans.

A concert ending around midnight.

Everything was perfect.
