Work Text:
Sitting in Med-bay alone was always boring, especially if that's what you're doing most of the time. But they're payed to do that, and what if someone hurt themself and they wouldn't be there to help? They didn't mind that too much anyway. At least they had paperwork that Orange gave them to keep their mind off of things.
Still, they couldn't help but feel slightly bored. I mean, they were signing that paperwork for almost 3 hours now. The letters were starting to mingle together into a one big blur, but with a bit of rubbing their visor and blinking a couple of times, they could push through it. "For the safety for the crew.." Blue told themself. Though they were re-reading the page for the fourth time now. They were slowly getting frustrated. How could they keep the crew healthy if they couldn't even finish their work?
Suddenly, the doors to Med-bay opened, and there stood White, the contest winner, who was looking around. They stood tall, their lavender polo shirt unbuttoned at the top, showing a bit of their long and thick, but neatly combed, fur. Also in their hands was a stack of papers. Blue looked at them, immediately noticing the papers, a bit disappointed that they couldn't catch a break. White noticed them after a second, a small blush forming on their cheeks.
"Hi, um.. Orange asked me to give you these.." White mumbled quickly, but Blue heard them clearly, probably due to how quiet Med-bay was. The white bean moved closer and put the stack on the corner of the desk. They looked towards Blue then quickly looked away, their blush slightly deepening.
Blue nodded slightly. "Thank you, White. I appreciate it." They responded, but they couldn't help but sigh quietly, the tiredness in their tone apparent. Even White couldn't help but notice this. They looked back at the doctor of the Skeld, and even tho they still were a bit swooned by the beauty of the doctor, they couldn't help but be curious on what was going on.
"Are you… uh ok? You don't sound too hot right now." White tilted their head, the wavy, shiny fur on their head bouncing slightly. Blue looked up at them, a bit surprised by the question, but still managed to smile slightly, the bags under their visor were a tad more visible than before.. White was a bit of confused on why. "Don't you worry, dear White. It's nothing." Blue tried to smile their way out of the situation, but for once the wealthy crewmate wasn't swooned. They were still focusing on the eye bags that graced the azure mate. White went around the hot doctor and sat on one of the nearby cots.
White was quiet for a moment, thinking of how to begin the conversation. They didn't want to upset Blue, especially since they began having talks to change their attitude slightly. After a minute or two of thinking they took a deep breath and looked away from the doctor to not be immediately swooned by their appearance. "Are.. are you sure you're fine? You look like you.. haven't relaxed in a while." They were quiet, as if someone could hear them if they spoke too loud. Blue was mildly taken aback by the question, blinking a few times. They looked at the papers on their desk, thinking for a second, before standing up from their chair and sitting next to White. They didn't know what to say, on one hand they didn't want to worry any of the crew about their problems, but on the other, after their talks with White about changing ways, they would be a hypocrite if they didn't voice their worries to the other.
After a bit of thinking, and White wanting to backtrack their question, they spoke in a quiet, tired and a bit tense voice. "I just had a lot of work to do, nothing major." They looked down at their hands, fiddling with their fingers. They kept quiet for another beat, trying to find words. "Being the only doctor to 10 crewmates, and to handle all the paperwork, it gets kind of too much." They finally finished their thought.
White eventually looked at them, noticing how beat up they sounded. They slowly (and a little nervously) moved their hand towards the other crewmate, and gently put their hand on the others. They smiled slightly, grateful that the doctor opened up to them. Suddenly, they got an idea. "Hey, how about you take a break and spend some time with me?"
Blue looked at them, uncertain about it. "I don't know, dear. I still need to finish these reports and check the supplies." At that, the white bean waved their free hand. They seemed a bit too eager to have a break, even when they didn't do anything too tiring today. Or anything at this point. "Oh don't worry. They won't disappear in 5 minutes. Besides, you need it."
Maybe it was the fog in their mind, or maybe the tiredness, but they softly nodded after a second of thinking. They moved closer to the other bean, a curious gleam in their visor. "So.. what do you have in mind for this break?" They smiled, and to White, it looked like an angel was send from heaven to talk to them and only them. They even saw a goldish hue with shining little stars behind the azure bean, though it must have been their imagination.
"I don't know. I mean, usually I have my sommelier nearby to serve me some wine or do what I ask, but.." White's visor shined with mischief as they reached to their bag. They pulled out a bottle of fine wine that was most definitely brought on the ship illegally, or at least without the HR representative knowing. There was no way that Orange let them carry a full bottle of wine in their backpack. "Want some? This one here was shipped to me from across the world. It's said it's very rich in flavor."
"How did… Why.." The doctor mumbled under their breath. They were way to tired to keep their professional attitude and it showed (not like White minded, they saw the doctor lose their composure a few times when they joked with each other). "But it's unethical to drink during work hours." At that, White paused. They looked at the doctor like they were joking. "Doctor.. Blue, darling it's way past 11 pm. Everyone is mostly asleep by now.." They looked at the other bean, worry apparent on their visor. Blue, hearing the comment, glanced at the digital clock on their desk and White was right. It was 11:46 PM. Blue was meant to finish work a few hours ago. "Oh." was their only response at which the rich crewmate nodded.
"Yeah." White glanced away, not knowing what to say right now.
Blue looked back at White and back at their desk, before remembering something. "Why aren't you asleep? And why did you bring those papers now?" One side of their visor moved upwards, like they were rasing a brow in question.
"Um.." The pearly white bean chuckled nervously. "Funny story, y'know? I.. was meant to give them to you earlier but it slipped my mind, hehe.." Their gaze shifted from their attractive friend, before turning away and looking anywhere besides the bean next to them. The doctor blinked a few times before chuckling as well. "It's quite alright, White." The azure one smiled a reassuring smile. White looked at them, relived, but after seeing the beans face, they blushed once again, to them Blue's smile looked like a light in a dark tunnel. But to who didn't it?
The room finally went quiet, the only sound being the humming of the machines around them and their own breaths. White was looking away to hide their blush, and Blue looked between White's extended hand that was holding the bottle and the floor, thinking about their situation. After thinking about the pros and cons, Blue took White's hand that was still on their own, and squeezed it to regain their attention. When they did, they nodded a bit, before explaining further.
"I wouldn't usually do it, but since it's not work hours.. and it would be rude to turn down the invitation, especially when you propose it.." Blue's visor shined even brighter.. somehow. 'Maybe it'll help me understand White a bit more' Blue smiled at their thought. They always preferred when their patients trusted them more, even if they had to do things they wouldn't normally. "But just one glass, okay?"
The wealthy bean was shocked for a second, their visor widening. They didn't think the doctor would agree — not like they minded — they were quite pleased by the outcome. Their visor shining almost as bright as the doctors (how do the visors work anyway???), which was quite the surprise for Blue, but they found it cute. ..Cute? No, no, that's not the word they should use.. Admirable, maybe? Whatever, it doesn't really matter now.
White reached to their bag to grab two glasses, handed one to Blue, and filled them both with wine. They then placed the bottle on the ground near them. They turned towards Blue as they did the same, smiled and clinked the glasses together. Both beans proceeded to take sips of their drink, the rich taste of alcohol accompanied with a strong but sweet taste of blueberries.
They hummed, White in delight — they were right to save this wine for special occasion — and Blue in curiosity but also in surprise. "It tastes really good and sweet. I didn't know blueberry wine could be so rich in flavor." The doctor stated their surprise. White nodded slightly, quickly answering "This wine was brought from our very trusty winemaker. They make the best wines, especially fortified ones." They rambled some more about the winemaker and what wines they make, and Blue listened to it all.
Safe to say, it didn't end up on one glass. Although Blue had way less wine to drink than White, they had started to feel the effects the drink had on them. Their professionalism started to slip away second by second, leaving them vulnerable and a bit clingy than they wanted to. Also between the 2 and 3 glass they undid their tie and unbuttoned the top of their shirt just like their pearly white friend had, the azure fur looking a bit messy from being covered for the whole day. They were side-hugging White with one arm and in the other they held the glass a bit sloppily but still firm enough for it to not fall and break.
White immediately noticed the change, but didn't comment on that, they were just glad that Blue felt more relaxed. Though a small pang of worry filled them. "Don't you think you should stop, Blue..?" Their words slurred slightly, but were still clear enough for the azure crewmate to understand. The mentioned bean looked up at White, their visor scrunching a bit, but after a second nodded and put the glass on a nearby table, nearly falling if not for White, who pushed it back and also put their glass next to it.
They turned to face their friend and looped their arms around their waist. Blue also shifted, their arms moving to wrap around Whites neck sloppily, staring at the white colored bean in front of them, giggling quietly. The contest winner tilted their head, confused, before Blue spoke up, their voice near a whisper. "I didn't think I would be spending the night here, like that."
White blinked. They didn't know if it was good or not, but based on Blue's expression they guessed it was the good type. They smiled gently. "Well, I'm glad you're happy, Blue." They leaned back to lean against the wall and slightly tugged Blue's shirt to make them move closer to them. Blue almost immediately moved closer, seeking touch from the other. With their arms still wrapped around White's neck, they lay down on White, their torsos touching.
White blushed at the touch, they just could not so. I mean, Blue, the hot doctor everyone's been swooning over, the one that kept their composure and professionalism, the one that helped them deal with their attitude and slowly became friends with? Everyone would kill to be in their spot! They felt really lucky that Blue made a choice like that, even if it was just because of the alcohol. Blue noticed their blush and giggled quietly, making White's thoughts disappear. They wanted to hear that giggle again, it was music to their ears.
The two lied like that in complete silence. They liked each other's company, even when no words were said. They both were staring at each other, staring down their visors like they showed the whole universe. It was like that for a while, before Blue slowly moved closer and pressed their visor against White's cheek, making them blush once more. They moved away, blinked a few times, before realization settled in. They moved away, their visor wide and apologetic. "Oh my, I'm so sorry White. I don't know what I was thinking..!" They were talking for a straight up minute, muttering apologies, how they shouldn't do what they did and saying that they understand if White didn't want to talk to them anymore, before they felt a cold glassy thing gently rubbing in on their cheek, making them shut up.
Before they said anything again, White moved back, looking away, still red on their cheeks. They cleared their throat before speaking. "It's alright, doc. I.. I liked it." They moved the hand from Blue's back to rub behind their neck. The azure bean stared at them for a second, before releasing the breath they didn't know they were holding and smiling. They moved their hand to cup White's cheek, making them look at Blue. They stared at each other, before they slowly moved towards the other, their visors meeting with a quiet clink. The kiss was slow and gentle at first, at least 'till White started to get more bold with their moves, holding Blue around their waist a bit more firmly, the other moving one of their hands to White's neck and the other towards their head, playing gently with the long, pristine white fur.
The gentle touches, slow and gentle kisses and the comfortable silence was all they both needed. But even something as beautiful as that had to end. They moved away, hands still around eachother, their breath ragged, as exhaustion started to creep in to both of them. It was way past their bed time and they knew Orange would have a problem with both of them if they were dead tired tomorrow.
Blue finally moved away, standing up from their position on the cot. "We should go to sleep, dear. It's almost 3am." They yawned after saying that at which White laughed quietly. They nodded, also standing up and grabbing Blue's hand. "Yeah. Let's go to my room, it's closer." The doctor wanted to protest, but the sheer exhaustion made their legs give out at the thought of walking to their room which was at the very end of the hallway of the dorms (idk what to call that but you get it). They nodded slightly. They both walked to the door, Blue switching out the lights and locking the door, and they made their way to White's room. The trip wasn't really long and, before they both knew it, they were already inside.
White moved to their dresser to get pajamas for them and Blue, while the other looked around. It was like their room, since all of them were the same, but a photo of White and their parents stood on the nightstand near the bed along with some kind of crystal, probably from Cyan since they were giving everyone one as a gift. On the dresser was a little dish filled with jewelry, next to it were little trinkets that Blue didn't have the energy to name. Finally, the owner of the room came back with two sets of silk robes with fluff around the edges. "Sorry, it's all I have.." White chuckled, a little embarrassed. Blue smiled slightly but didn't comment, just took the robe.
Soon enough, both of them bathed, did their skin care and everything, put their pajamas and were finally ready for bed. They both laid down, almost immediately tangling their arms and legs around eachother and staring at the others visor, smiling. White closed the distance between them, giving Blue a small kiss on their forehead. "Goodnight, love."
Blue smiled a bit brighter at the nickname. They also moved closer and kissed White, but on the cheek. "Goodnight, dear." Both of them closed their visor and hugged eachother tight, before slowly drifting to sleep, listening to their breath and their heartbeats that seemed to beat as one.
