The paints today are red, green, and yellow, and the theme given was ‘nature’. A rather easy one, quite frankly. Fall is nearing by the second, and despite being in a town devoid of a lot of trees, the asylum has many planted, in order to get the populace to ‘relax’ and ‘be happy’.
It works, nearly half the time, and Daffy has to admire the green-yellow leaves that rustle in the somewhat cool wind.
“Hey, pretty wing, how ya doing?”
Nope. Ignore that. It’s just another hallucination. He has them, ever since the uh...thing he isn’t allowed to talk about or he’ll lose his-hehhe-mind. Instead, he swirls the brush in the green, dabbing at various leaves on his canvas as furry arms wrap around his shoulders, a head balanced on his, a rough coat rubbing against his feathers. “Ugh, you smell like antiseptic, darlin’. An’ ya skinny as ever! Need a bit’a meat on yer bones.”
Oh! Not a hallucination then! It’s Bugs! Daffy tilts his head up, seeing the rabbit’s head block out the sun, the ears threaded through a hat that flick this way and that. “Bugsy! Thought you were avoidin’ me again!”
“Never do, honey bun,” he trills, and Daffy can’t help but to squirm happily at the familiar voice. The attendants here think it’s good for him if he doesn’t see anyone from his ‘old life’, at least while he heals, but it gets really, really lonely. It also doesn’t help that Bugs has basically all but left the public eye, with no end in sight. “How’s ya day? Anythin’ going on?”
“Nah,” he says, sliding the brush over the canvas, watching in glee as the paint smears a trail through broken branches and leaves. “Bored. Some weird people came, askin’ questions about AC-“ his voice falters, and he coughs, a gloved hand rubbing his side comfortingly as he continues on, “-an’ I gave ‘em the box like ya ashked! Haha! I did! I-I did...”
“That’s my daffy little duck,” he croons, and Daffy’s little tail wags excitedly, the bits of praise fueling his soul. “You just keep being good, an’ I’ll be back before ya know it. Back to our fun little home near the pond~”
“They don’t have any pondsh here, shoooooo boring,” he chatters a bit, swaying with Bugs for a moment, the sun hidden behind clouds just for a second. “It’ll be nice nice nice to be home home home!”
“Yeah...it sure will, darlin’...”
When one of the attendants comes out to bring him inside, Bugs is gone, and Daffy is quieter for the day. The painting looks like all his usual ones, but in the corner, there’s a grey and a black blob, both of them walking a small trail, hand in hand, towards a pond filled with floating logs and frogs and a burrow nearby.
Just gotta wait.
Just gotta wait.
