Work Text:
One thing was for sure, today had not started out like this. It was beautiful outside, so bright and sunny. That fact alone comforted you, knowing that the weather was finally on your side. You went to Julies and played many games with her, Frank even joined a few begrudgingly! But even the most amusing things come to an end, unfortunately. You attempted to linger a little, hoping the fun did not have to stop. But to your dismay, Julie had some tending to the flowers to do. She actually encouraged you to go see your boyfriend.
The only reason you’d been avoiding Wally was.. Well, a little something had come up between you two. Not that it was even important, But Wally, ever the observer, had obviously noticed it. You suspected this whole dating thing wasn’t supposed to be hard. Not initially, anyway. But perhaps you weren’t so used to being seen under a hypothetical microscope by the neighborhood Darling.
Whenever you asked him a question, his eyes instantly locked on yours. Whenever you would request a (blanket, drink, notebook, etc) he would bring you it without hesitation. You always did try your hardest to give the love you received back to him. But PDA has unfortunately never been your strong suit, so to speak.
The biggest flaw you considered yourself to have was your eating disorder. Something you were not proud of. Something you kept hidden away from your friends, your family, and pretty much the world. You didn’t think you were so important anyway. No one had ever seemed to notice, that was long before a certain soft spoken gentleman crowded your every thought.
———
“What.. is it.. Dear?”
Wally inquired, once again unnervingly staring across the table at you. It was just a little after dark, and you decided to have dinner. Of course, Wally just had to join such a practical ritual. He sat right across from you, (Only after you told him repeatedly it was ‘uncommon’ for two to eat together side by side).
“Nothing, Wally. I am fine. Don't worry about me.”
You coldly responded, but it didn’t affect him in the slightest, or convince him. As a clean plate sits in-front of your boyfriend, a cold meal sits in-front of you. You didn’t not know what to say, but you also knew you didn’t want to let on any innuendo of your predicament. You glance down at the plate that grew colder, your stomach almost becoming nauseous.
“You know… you may.. eat.. later? if. You are..not feeling up to it?”
Your boyfriend calmly advised, his never changing smile almost a comfort in that moment. Despite your doubts, the look on Wally’s face brought you some peace. You were safe here, in Home, with him.
On the other hand, Wally could see the sickly features now growing across your once content expression. He decides he should be a good lover to you, and help you not feel so pressured. Wally stands, taking both plates and bringing them to the sink. As he begins to wash them, he can’t help but glance back at your wide eyed self. The person who he thought the world of, was afraid of letting their guard down.
After such an embarrassing encounter, your eyes almost water. It was just simply who you were, and in the past you had been shamed for being such an emotional. Wally never judged you for feeling so deeply, and once caught sight of a now teary-eyed you, he made an effort to come back by your side.
”Oh..most..”
He tutted, his felt fingers tracing along your shoulders. He guided you upright, out of the uncomfortable dining room chair. Despite his size, you were quite aware of how strong your partner could be. He didn’t always quite know exactly what you were going through, unfortunately he was not a mind reader, but he could always sympathize.
Now, secure in his arms, you pout, uncomfortable with the fact you couldn’t stomach a little food. Wally runs his hand along your lower abdomen, humming as if nothing even happened. He sits you both down on his maroon love seat, trying hard to be extra careful with you in such an openly emotional state around him.
You never meant for it to get to this point, but you also never spent 24/7 with one individual all the time (let alone live together). Your lover rubs his cheek to yours, as if an attempt to settle your always worrying brain.
“Don’t be embarrassed… I won’t.. judge… you. I love you.. very much.”
He reminded you. Your heart swelled, and you hugged his neck tightly automatically. With puppets not exactly built the same way humans are, you allow yourself to squeeze him quite tightly. He felt happy to make you feel so strongly about him. Proud be the one to keep a smile on your face. You evidently smile at his growing blush, happy to have such a gentle love. Anything rough would’ve never worked out. But the quiet, creative life Wally practically had invited you into seemed to be in was almost a trance. Maybe one you didn’t mind being wrapped up in. Maybe you didn’t mind leaving the bustling world you allowed yourself to slip away from.
The last thought to cross your mind was how smooth Wally’s fingers felt as they worked your frustrations away. His consistent smile remains, allowing you to become so relaxed in his arms.
”I love you more, Wally.”
