Work Text:
It was an early, cool morning. Faint suspected more feminine leaning voices of your neighbors could be heard from outside, along with innocent laughter and sounds of amusement. Although relaxing to think of, the soft breeze and tempting games outdoors was not strong enough to lift your gaze. The center of your heart, now dressed in a rather dashing shade of red robe, sat content in his living room, a mug in his grasp and sketchbook on his lap.
Those soft footsteps of yours always were a dead giveaway. Wally shifts his glance from his sketch to a now wide-eyed you, his smiles widening.
“Why… my love. Good morning..”
Wally cooed, a hand gesture beckoning you to come sit.
“You are.. up.. awfully early. My sweet.”
He muses, a bit concerned for his fiancé. He runs his hands through your hair as he gazes up at you, knowing you wouldn’t settle with him.
“Do you… want.. me…? I can.. help.. you.. go back to sleep? I can.. try..”
His monotonous voice offers, knowing mornings weren’t really normally your thing. Previously when he offers that, he would either sing to you (best he could), or read to you. Just his kindness normally soothed you right back into a warm slumber.
His fingers shift over to your right, and he presses a light kiss there. Your stomach felt fluttery, and you were too sleepy to become aware of the growing smile across your face.
“It’s okay, lovey. I’ll be okay. Just a bit loud outside.”
You reassured, secretly not wanting to be a bother. Normally Wally had a knack for not sleeping all through the night, and resorted to simply finding a cozy artistic hobby in the comforts your solemn living room. Wally nods, looking over at the open window.
“Oh. I am.. sorry.. I opened it.. to look at that bug. Right there. It was my.. inspiration. This morning.”
He explains to you gently, while now subconsciously hugging your arm from his spot on his love seat. You nod in understanding.
“I can.. close it? I … didn’t realize. I know.. the games can be.. quite.. noisy.”
You smile at the sentiment. Wally glances up at you, a smile on his face enough to soothe the previous frustrations over waking up at a deemed ‘unruly’ hour by you.
Wallys hands slowly make their way down your arm, rolling up your sleeves. His eyes remain on yours. You notice his tousled, beautiful curls frame his face just so. You were sure love adorned your face at this point, as you cherished his seemingly glowing features more than anything at this point. Your fiancé was just a work of art.
“Are these.. my pajamas? Honey?”
Wally wonders aloud, trying to make sense of why the red pajama set didn’t fit you right and looked too baggy for you. You nod, and he makes an audible sound of understanding.
“I may have stolen them.. Now that we are engaged, we can share more. Did you not want to share?…”
You explain, throwing in a tempting faux fret, making his expression change slightly and quickly rush to reassure you. Of course he would share with his lover! You were the apple of his eye. His muse. His Darling. Truthfully, he wanted everything with you.
“Oh…no.. You..may wear anything.. you.. like. My Darling. Even anything.. of mine. Ha. Ha. Ha.”
You smile bashfully, knowing he would feel for you and let you wear anything your heart desires. Wally finds himself lost in your glowing face, his pupils almost seemingly doubling. You adjust his robe collar a little, wanting him to look his best even when he wasn’t ’picture perfect’.
“Your curls are getting so long, handsome.”
You hum to him, combing your fingers through his normally neatly styled hair. He shrugs momentarily, not caring too much. If you liked it long, he may continue to grow it.
————————— ‘ Introducing yourselves as the Darlings-to-be ‘ . . .
- After a slow wake up with the one you adore, you found yourselves picking out each other’s outfits, and evidently matching. If you are a more colorful or stylish individual, Wally is happy to accessorize and accommodate you in any way. If you are more of a neutral minimalist, he will accept and match accordingly. He probably will end up rubbing off on you anyway. After all, everyone in Home could be quite the colorful array of neighbors!
- When re-introducing yourselves to the population of the neighborhood as engaged, all of the reactions were most certainly positively positive. In their own way, of course. Julie loved ceremonies, and wanted you and your Darling to just be the happiest version of yourselves! Others, such as Barnaby was proud of his little buddy, and you could almost recall him making quite a few jokes along the lines of things like:
“I knew ya had it in ya, you romantic!” or “My ol’ pal was always sweet on our new neighbor, huh?, Well, congrats to ya’s.”
- Wally doesn’t rush anything you didn’t want to be rushed, either. He had no problem becoming private in that regard, if you didn’t want to tell people about the marriage or engagement. Despite growing up a little on the traditional side, he would bend rules for you, (amongst other things.)
- He bought you a new, custom fitted ring. One that made your face visibly show gratitude every time you had the pleasure of looking at it. engraved in it, was your favorite gem. Perhaps a raging red Ruby, one that shimmered in the glistening sunlight. Maybe you fancied more of an Emerald, something to bring out the more nature-loving side of you. Or even a satisfactory Sapphire, one that was your favorite color and went with everything you wore, and the gateway to your heart.
- After becoming an official pair, Wally insisted on getting rid of all things you could share hygiene-wise (excluding his many hairsprays), and wanted you to smell like him when you were out and about. He kept his shampoo and your soap, a magical blend that uniquely fit the two of you. A small detail that took you approximately a month and a half to notice. You didn’t complain about this, finding his want to become a blend quite admirable and a delicate gesture on his part.
- The first two weeks after he proposed, he gifted you a new ‘love quilt’ as he so adorably called it. He had asked Poppy to knit and sew your names and new last name on it, and made it shades of red and pink to really tie together the ‘love’ inspired color scheme. It was one of many little presents that made you never, ever regret your non hesitant ‘Yes’ when he offered the ring to you.
- Wally becomes a little more holed up in the beginning of your engagement, wanting to spend all of his time with you. Painting you from every angle, drawing you in graceful charcoals or pastels, basically trying every medium with you as the center of his masterpieces. He also experimented with more physical affection, his hands now at your waist about 80% of the time. Even in public! He also opts for you to stay home with him a bit more, he really never can truly get enough of you. You just mean the world to him!
