Chapter Text
The alarm echoed around the room, pounding into his head the bed squeaking from the moving weight of Rin’s body. Mornings were always too loud.
Sat up now, staring at the alarm his eyes began to trail towards the pinned calendar August 10th a reminder that it's moving day.
Just Rin’s luck he had been accepted into a rather prestigious high school the same one as his shitty older brother.
No longer able to ignore the alarm Rin stood up making his way to the closet. Birds sang loudly outside the open window, the early morning air filling the room. The smell was earthy carrying a scent of rain in the breeze. He didn’t even hear the rain the sound of arguing had overtaken the night.
Floorboards creaking as Rin inched closer to the bathroom door. Icy cold eyes stared back in the mirror. The face reflecting looked all too familiar. It was like a curse forced to carry the same features as his. If it weren’t for the different hair colors they’d almost be twins. Chills filled Rin’s body as he reached for the toothbrush. There was no time to think back on the past not now.
Teeth brushed, uniform buttoned, and shoes tied it’s better not to wait around, today students are meant to show up for orientation.
The smell of coffee enveloped the air as Rin entered the kitchen a scent that always caused melancholy. Avoiding the dark liquid he walked towards the fridge. Mom and Dad must have left already. How nice they even forgot to say goodbye. A low grunt could be heard it was whatever there was no expectation that they’d remember today would be Rin’s last in the home.
Would he even visit? Unlikely. It’s not like Sae ever did.
No longer feeling an appetite Rin walked out not a second glance to suck in the memories once made in the very house that now filled him with resentment.
Leaves crunching one after another followed by Rin’s bangs blowing into his eyes the feeling of walking this early was almost peaceful. The sound of the city overtook his thoughts leaving no room for anxiety. If only life could always feel this way. A silly thought.
A loud click of the door shutting entered his ears stepping into the front office.
Chatter amongst colleagues mixed with playfully arguing students filled the room.
Air filled his lungs as he took a shallow breath to muster up the energy to talk. After a moment of gaining composure, he began walking up to the front desk sneakers squeaking against the tiled floor
The lady behind the desk gave him a once-over before a look of realization over took.
“Oh hello! Are you one of the new students?” She asked gently her tone was sweet like a taffy that dissolved too quickly.
“Yes, Rin itoshi I’m here to get my schedule and dorm key”
The sound of typing began as the lady nodded.
“Should have that printed in just a sec here’s your dorm key.” The lady responded before disregarding Rin to talk with her colleague probably continuing whatever he’d interrupted prior.
301 was engraved into the key. How many floors did the dorm section have?
It took several minutes before the overly chatty woman remembered she’d left a student waiting quickly handing him the schedule to move things along.
With a crinkled schedule in hand, he entered orientation. After this, it would be time to settle into his dorm
A small screech of the chair legs could be heard as Rin scooted into the desk placed directly next to an overly smiley boy hair dyed yellow near the back.
“Ooh!! I’ve never seen you before are you new?” The unknown boy asked.
In return, he received a nod. Small talk wasn’t exactly Rin’s forte
Before the boy could ask another fifty questions the teacher had the class quiet down.
“I expect everyone to be quiet for the next hour as I review all the requirements and expectations for this year.” the professor announced in a clearly annoyed tone carrying irritability not a morning person?
Once the bell rang to avoid the bubbly boy Rin walked out quickly. Making friends? Rin couldn’t care less about all of that. He had only one desire for this school year to outdo all of Sae’s records. Maybe then his brother would notice him.
With a small frown etched on his face, the black-haired boy's eyes watched the taller boy speed off.
“Ding” a loud sound of a notification barely audible over all the students talking.
The small notification distracted him from the disappointment.
(We should drop out) +1 message
Yoichi: [7:58 AM]
So have any of you met the new students?
Bachira: [8:00 AM]
Ooh, I did!! His eyelashes were really long!! He sorta looked familiar🤔
chigirii: [8:02 AM]
Familiar in what way?
Bachira: [8:05 AM]
Like I’d seen his face around but ehh who knows
Hiori: [8:07 AM]
I’m supposed to dorm with one
Reo: [8:09 AM]
Since when didn't you get a single dorm?
Bachira: [8:10 AM]
WHAT!!
Hiori: [8:11 AM]
Yeah I did but with the influx of new students they’re given up on letting students have single dorms
Yoichi: [8:12 AM]
I guess that makes sense since nobody paid to have a single room it was just luck
Chigiri: [8:14 AM]
Well, let’s just hope you don’t get stuck with some weirdo after all you’re the only one who doesn’t know your dormmate; we’ve all had time to learn about ours.
Hiori: [8:16 AM]
I'm sure I'll be just fine
Yoichi: [8:18 AM]
Wishing you luck as someone with the worst roommate who's ever existed!!
