Today could not get any worse.
First Sakura got stuck in the rain without an umbrella. Then that stupid cat Risha got stuck in a tree and he had to wrangle her down, and now this stupid goon just shot him in the arm.
Who brings a gun to a fist fight!?
That same asshole now has a broken arm and a bad concussion.
That's what he gets for being so lame.
So, here he is, sitting in a dirty alleyway trying to decide who to call. It can't be Suo. He'll freak out for sure, and the same goes for all of his classmates.
Kotoha might be an acceptable option, but he doesn't feel like getting scolded right now. Tsubiki would just break out into tears before calling the whole school for assistance.
Which only leaves Umemiya. He can definitely be just as overbearing, but Sakura knows he can keep his mouth shut for a couple hours at least. His brother also knows about his aversion to hospitals and why.
With the decision made, he carefully extracts his phone from his pocket. Hissing when the movement jostles his bleeding arm.
It rings for a few beats before Ume answers.
“Hey Haruka! What's up?” He sounds a bit nervous, which is fair seeing as the only other time Sakura called him he was close to death. This situation definitely won't help with that complex.
“Hey Ume. You alone right now?” The last thing he needs is to have other people listening in.
“Um, yes? Why do you ask?”
“Well I might have a slight problem I need help with…” He trails off.
“Okay… And what would that be?” Now he really sounds worried and Sakura curses himself. This is the last thing he wants to do to the older boy.
“Well, I have a hole in my arm.” He hedges.
“A hole…”
“Yep.”
“In your arm…”
“I said that already!”
“And how did you get a hole in your arm exactly?”
“Well… I might have gotten in a fight on my way to school, and this asshole fucking shot me.”
“Shot you!? Like with a gun!?” Ume sounds borderline hysteric. “Nevermind that doesn't matter, you can tell me more later. Where are you?”
That's his brother alright. Always ready to roll with the punches.
He sends Ume a ping for his location and lays his head back against the wall. “I just sent it to you.”
“Okay, I’m on my way. Stay on the phone with me okay?”
“‘kay.”
Sakura can hear rustling and then the sound of wind through the speaker. He must be running.
Sakura’s starting to feel a little light headed now. He looks down at his arm, and tries not to panic at the amount of blood coating his hand and seeping to the concrete below him.
He’s been keeping pressure on the wound with his bunched up sweatshirt, now almost soaked through. His Bofurin jacket is folded off to the side to avoid getting it even more stained then it already is.
He’s startled out of his thoughts by Umemiya’s voice on the other end of the line.
“You with me bud? Talk to me, you’ve gotta stay awake.” He sounds out of breath which is unusual. He's probably sprinting at top speed.
“Ugh. Yeah I'm here.” He groans. “You won't believe the day I’ve had…” Sakura goes on to blearily recount the terrible string of events that led him to this situation.
“I can't believe that asshole brought a gun to a fist fight. Who even has guns in Japan!?” He feels a little more awake after describing the unfairness of it all.
“You’re right, it’s strange he had a gun at all. We can talk more about it later though.” More heavy breathing comes across the line. “I’m almost to you, just a couple more minutes.”
“Mhm okay.” He says, losing steam after his passionate recounting. His eyes feel heavy and he has to fight to keep pressure on the wound.
I swear if I lose consciousness I’m gonna hunt that guy down and break his other arm for good measure.
He’s broken out of his hazy thoughts by the arrival of Umemiya, who looks absolutely frantic as he scans him, gaze narrowing in on his arm before lifting to his eyes. He cradles Sakura’s face in his hand and tries to smile, but it comes off as more of a grimace.
“Hey bud, I’m here.” Sakura won't admit it, but the sound of Ume’s voice immediately calms some of the panic in his chest. “We’ve gotta get this looked at okay? I’m gonna call for an ambulance.”
Sakura nods his head slowly, and tries not to puke from the wave of dizziness the movement brings. He’s surprised by the lack of anxiety he feels at the mention of going to a hospital. Though, it’s probably because Ume is here with him.
His brother quickly finishes his call and turns his attention back to him.
“How do you keep getting yourself into these situations, huh?” He tries to joke.
“It’s not like I asked to get shot!” He cries indignantly. “How was I supposed to know he would have a gun of all things?”
“Mhm, it seems you're even more of a magnet for trouble then I am. Suo is gonna freak once he finds out.”
Sakura bumps his head back against the wall. “Ugh, don't remind me, they are going to be absolutely unbearable. And I just got them to stop treating me like a delicate flower.”
“Well there's not much you can do about that.” Ume says consolingly as he puts more pressure on the wound.
Sakura hisses in pain and tries to swipe his arm away, but his brother easily evades and presses down harder. At least the pain brings him back into full awareness.
“What time is it anyway? My friends are gonna start worrying if I don't check in before class.”
Ume pulls his phone back out, “9:04, just a couple minutes late. Want me to text them for you?”
Sakura nods. “Yeah, but don't tell them what happened. Just say I’m running late helping someone.”
“You got it.”
He types for a couple seconds before locking the phone again. Hopefully his class won't get suspicious.
“Have I ever told you you're my favorite?” The words all but fall out of his mouth without permission.
Umemiya beams at him, finally looking a little more calm. “Nope! But it's okay, I already knew.”
Sakura groans. “Ugh. Don't you dare tell anyone I said that.”
