Work Text:
Mapicc glares at the stairs below him as he starts making the angry descent. Maybe Athenaeum knows another exit. Spoke is so dead. Mapicc’s mind races with the various ways he wants to end Spoke’s life. His internal tirade is interrupted by a very familiar voice, “So, he took the bait?”
“Hook, line, and sinker. Wemmbu will take care of him for us, although it is a shame that Null will be going down with him, he’s too greedy to release that totem.” Athenaeum remarks softly.
“Unfortunate, but their sacrifice is worthy. Just like the unfortunate books that were lost to give Spoke his inkling of control over me.” Jamato remarks. Mapicc slides against the wall, careful not to make a noise with his armor, he stands awkwardly on the staircase to listen to the two Scholars speak. “You let him take the book, correct?” Jamato inquires.
“Of course, a librarian always knows if a book is missing. And honestly, his friend was sneakier than he was.”
“And where is Mapicc?”
“Somewhere around here, we both know that Spoke is too far gone to release Mapicc.”
“Hm, this may work to our advantage if Wemmbu fails. I will have to meet up with him soon.”
“What of the other intruders in the Underworld?” Athena asks with a soft hum. Mapicc raises a brow, confused.
“Parrot and his escaped convicts from Clown? I’ve asked the Soul Keepers to handle them, those that don’t surrender for sacrifice will be out-right killed. I’ve given explicit instructions to keep Parrot alive and trapped until I arrive. Either we’ll sell him back to Clown for a price, or we will find a use for him down here. He’s still important.” Jamato sighs.
“Agreed. Our plans for him are still not complete.” Athena remarks, “So, now what?”
“I’ll go find Mapicc and convince him to join our cause with a false-promise of Spoke’s death at his hands and we move on from there. There is quite a lot I wish to teach him, he has quite a lot of potential.” Jamato hums in thought.
“Agreed.” Athena’s voice follows Mapicc up the stairs, away from the two Scholars.
“I am not a pawn in their crappy plans. I need to get out of here. I need to find Parrot. I need to kill Spoke. In that order.” Mapicc growls to himself.
“Mapicc? Are you around? I’m here to help!” Jamato calls somewhere a few halls away, his voice echoing off the stones. Mapicc ignores his lies.
