Summary
“You don’t need to do this,” Macaque says.
“I know,” MK responds. He tilts his head back down and stares at the bottom of the stairs. It might just be his imagination, but the weeds that grow up between the steps and along the sides seem longer, more wild, than he remembers, as if no one had been down to tend to them in a long time.
He looks back at Macaque, who is still so against this. MK understands; he just doesn’t want him doing this because he feels guilty. He doesn’t want him to forget the wrong that’s been done.
But MK isn’t forgetting. He isn’t guilty or regretful or any of the other things Macaque thinks gives his counterpart too much leeway.
