Chapter Text
Wile E. Coyote, the name his father had given him. His name, his legacy, who he was. A genius who was going to surpass others and accomplish the impossible. Except there was one thing, he was an awkward, tough, menacing, sly, and loser who was in second place.
He stared at his laptop, jaw dropped down and eyes wide. Once again he was behind Randy Road aka–“Road runner.” The famous track star runner of Looney High, the one who's always one step ahead of him. He glared at the name, his fist tightening as he stared at his own grade. Five points. That's how much Road Runner beats him again, by five points.
Not wanting to create a scene, he shut his laptop and placed his head down. He couldn't do much but dig his head into his arm. Back in middle school he was always ahead of everyone. He was known as a genius, smarter than his peers but the day he met Road Runner everything changed.
“Woah what's up with you?”
He looked up to find Daffy already taking a seat in front of him. Just raising an eyebrow when he glared at him. A look that clearly said “fuck off” except this was Daffy, he was no longer phased by his tantrums.
Rolling his eyes Daffy took out his lunch, “let me guess it has to do with Randy? You know I'll never understand why you so badly want to pass him. You both are smart and compared to the rest you don't need extra help.” He finished taking a bite out of his sandwich, offering his the other slice.
His stomach growled and reluctantly he accepted it. Opening his notebook, he scribbles some words before shoving it at Daffy.
“You know you can talk to me instead? Sigh, I bet it has to do with favoritism. You only ever let Bugs hear your voice.”
He completely ignored him and chose to take a bite of his sandwich. Refusing to say a word.
“I won't lose to him. I'll beat him and leave him behind, you'll see.”
“Come on Wile this has me cringing. Leave him behind? What is he? A lover that broke your heart?” Daffy shook his head in disappointment. He couldn't believe this was his best friend's ex. If he didn't know any better he would've said Wile was Randy ex, instead of Bugs.
“What's up doc? What's cooking up that has you glaring at everyone. Let me guess…hmmm, it's a road runner ain't it?”
Both Wile and Daffy turned to find a silver haired boy leaning at Wile. A carrot in his hand as a wide grin played on his face. He had his basketball uniform on and a towel over his shoulder. Daffy leaned back in a huff, his mood suddenly souring as a crowd with heart eyes watched over Bugs. It sure was hard being friends with one of the popular guys in school. Especially when he knows he's more popular than him.
Wile looked at the crowd and stared at Bugs unamused, as the silver hair boy winked at the crowd. Taking another bite of his carrot before choosing to sit next to Daffy. Arms swinging behind to rest on Daffy's shoulder. He watched as Daffy tried to slap his arm away, only to have Bugs pull him closer. Wile raised an eyebrow, he was starting to suspect there was something going on between those two.
“So am I right? Of course I'm right, it's always about him when you get like this.”
Wile grumbled, “what do you want?”
“Oh I'm never ever getting used to that.”
Bugs laughed watching Daffy shiver from hearing Wile's voice. It's always been rare to get him to talk, not unless you're Bugs “Bunny.”
“Well tell you what, I came here to ask you for something–”
“No.”
“Oh come on! I haven't even finished, don't interrupt me.” Bugs whined, pushing his hair back which caused the background crowd to gush over him. “We are currently down to a couple of players and we need cover. What do you say doc? Come and join the team.”
Coyote twisted his body away, his shoulders tight, as if trying to shield himself away from Bugs eyes.
“You know...” Wile flinched back when he felt Bugs pull him by the shoulder. “Road runner joining the team because there's a scholarship on the line here.”
His eyes lit up for a second but in an instant became dubious. “The scholarship is for a top student, top grades, AND is in sports.” Bugs continued circling him as whispers around them got louder.
He pushed Bugs away, he was not about to cause another rumor that he and Bugs were dating. Holding him at arms length, he glanced over Daffy who shrugged. His mind calculating every scenario and his tongue licking his bottom lip.
“There better be a scholarship in the line Bugs. And the Road Runner better know it's going to be mine.”
“That's the spirit, Coyote! I'll see you tomorrow after school, catch you later doc!” Bugs exclaimed, winking at Daffy and giving a smooch at Wile's cheek. Making him howl out in anger as fans screamed out and glared at him with jealousy.
He wiped his cheek furiously, turning to see Daffy already walking away with Bugs. He couldn't help but feel he was falling for a trap. Bugs just like him were able to catch him off guard. Passing his fingers through his locks he could only hope there was no trap for him. Because this time he will be trapping Randy and taking that scholarship. Finally surpassing him, he grinned widely as he started planning.
