Work Text:
Legundo listens to the leaves underneath his feet crunch as he carefully takes steps through the forest he walks almost daily. An hour to the clinic and an hour back home. That’s how long his walks were. Two hours of walking in total almost daily. And that is if he doesn’t have to go past the store for groceries on his way back. Why walk and not drive? They didn’t exactly have a car. That would cost them money they didn’t have after coming back to life. It isn’t like they could even drive to their cabin. The closest road was still a thirty minute walk away. So, walking it is.
The walks were doable once he had gotten used to them. In the beginning it felt like a chore when his body was still recovering from not moving for decades. Now it helps him wake up and freshen up his mind in the morning. And on the way back the walk helped clear his mind from the things he would see in his clinic some days. He especially loves the walks in the spring, winter and the beginning of the fall. Later in the year, the walks did get harder. But the clinic had to stay open through storms and snow so he went anyway.
It had stormed last night, the ground was soaked and Legs still felt the night’s wind linger. This was one of those mornings he regretted opening a clinic this far away from home or living so far from civilization. He had to leave early this morning to make sure he got at work on time. Yes, he is his own boss, but it is still important to stay on schedule! It didn’t help that the bed was nice and warm this morning and he had to leave his lovers there sleeping while he crept out of the house with the night still as dark as Owen’s eyes.
He grumbles as the thought of the warm and nice bed waiting for him at home creeps up again. As a distraction his hands reach for his phone in his pocket and reads up on some during the walk missed messages.

Cat: Have a nice day at work!
Cat: -Louis
Cat: NICD AU AT WORK!!
Doctor: <3
Doctor: Louis, we really need to get you your own phone if you keep texting through Owen’s
Legs chuckles as he types out the message. They really need Louis, the stubborn man who keeps wanting to write letters, to get him his own phone. He really can’t keep stealing Owen’s phone for communication. Although, Legs is sure that Owen doesn’t mind it. He still makes a mental note to look online later today for a phone for Louis.

The message came right as Legs reached the front door of his clinic. With his jingly bundle of keys in one hand he grabs the right one with his other hand and opens the door. He turns the warm lighting on, makes sure the curtains are still closed and starts preparing the place for the day. He throws his bag in its usual spot to the side of his office and-
squeak
What? That wasn’t normal. That wasn’t part of the routine. He carefully picks up his bag again to throw it down in the spot and
squeak
Again, he picks up the bag. This time though he opens it to come face to face with
two bats.
Owen and Louis were in his bag with Owen’s phone laying in between them. They are looking at him with big eyes as if they were trying to look cute. Well, they are cute. Cute little bats with big orbs as eyes. His cute little bats in his bag. But no! Routine. They aren’t supposed to be here. They are supposed to be back in their cabin!
“What are you two doing here?” He asks while grabbing the two of them out of his bag. They each fit in one of his hands. Owen fits in his hand with ease, being a small fluffy brown bat. While he was cute like this, he was definitely bitier. Louis on the other hand has to drape his wings over the edges of his hand, he is an elegant long ginger bat.
“Owen wanted this, dear.” The ginger bat squeaks.
“We wanted to see the clinic for once!” The brown bat squeaked. “You never let us go with you.”
“That’s because it’s unsanitary for bats to be in a medical space.” He grumbles while setting Owen and Louis down on his neatly organized desk. The eldest takes a seat on the pile of anatomy books that he owns. The wet cat equivalent of a man, on the other hand, pulls down his pencil holder with his teeth. Before Legs can catch it all the pens fall out of it and the bat nestles inside the holder.
“No, no, no!” Legs collects all the pens as the ginger bat drags the brown bat out of the holder with his teeth by the scruff of his neck. Once Owen is out of it, he sets it back the right way up and the right things, his pens, go back in it. “Owen. Don’t do that again. This is my space.”
“Uhm, hello?” Legs spins around to see the town’s baker staring at him and his bats. “Can I get some help?”
“This was boring, Legs.” Owen squeaks while pattering around on Legs’s basically bald head.
“I found it fun to watch.” Louis squeaks from the cuddled up ball he was being in the side of Legs’s neck. “Our dear doctor got to help people and I got to learn stuff.”
“Of course you would find that fun, love.” He can almost hear Owen roll his eyes from up there. Wait, that gives him an idea.
“Louis, dear, want to learn something else?” His hand reach up to hold the small ball of a bat in his bigger hands. “Sometimes patients are a bit… bitey.”
He walks to the closest table to him just to set his little bat down there and wrap some fabric around him.
“And that’s how you restrain one.” He pets Louis, who’s still nicely cuddled up against his neck.
“Uhm, Legs.” The squeaking from Louis made him look back at the table where Owen is now glaring daggers towards him. “Isn’t that the kind of fabric Owen despises?” OH.
“Oh shit! Sorry, Owen.” He quickly unwraps Owen from his binding and settles him on his shoulder. He now sits, gumpily, at the same side Louis is cuddled up on.
Maybe this was a nice day without his routine. Their walk back was calm with the both of them shifted back to a more humanoid form. They had better chats than they had in days. They laughed. They were happy.
Currently Legs lays in bed and he’s back to his old night routine. With Louis starting to cuddle into his side and Owen draped over the both of them, life couldn’t be better.
