Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

Summary:

After the violent and exhausting battle of LAW, Eggchan seems to notice that Wemmbu seems to be at rather unusually low spirits.

He also doesn’t miss the dwindling relationship between his best friend and his siblings.

Chapter 1: Contemplation Song - Amelie Farren

Chapter Text

He strode through the dense greenery of the overcrowdedly viridian forest, dewy leather boots forcing themselves through the tendrils of stiff grass.

He was nearly there, it wouldn't take even ten more minutes of tiredly walking before he would of reached the cabin he knew his best friend would be waiting for him in.

He's exhausted. He's not an idiot, he knows it wasn't a good idea to leave today, not after the recent civil war, not after everything that's happened too overwhelmingly quickly and recently. But he's done it for Eggchan, his best friend. His best friend whom annoyingly decided now was the best time to run out of paper and leather for his writings, his best friend whom had stayed with him through it all...

The cool silver of the handle against his palm atop the stairs to the cabin ease him out of his dwindling spiralling thoughts. The door opens with a click, and shuts with a soft thud behind him as he opens his mouth to speak.

"Egg, I'm back!"

The sound of quick light footsteps can be heard from the upper floor of the wooden building, a figure sprinting down the staircase.

"Did you get the supplies?"

The Seraphim bounced on his heels, practically vibrating. He knows just how much Eggchan loves to write, how much he's needed to write down the complex happenings of the server and the confusing emotions they'd both experienced recently, it's nice to see the angel so genuinely upbeat once again.

"Yeah dude, I'll craft them to books for you."

Eggchan falls into step beside him as they weave through the semi messy house to the workshop, located in the basement, they don't speak in the thirty odd seconds it takes to get there, however it's a comfortable and peaceful silence.

He's missed moments like these, before everything went to shit once again. The calm days of committing time to useless mundane tasks with Egg. He'll miss it once again when another hurtle strikes their way.

Sometimes he wonders about creating a world with just him and Egg, without the worry of other players getting in the way of their tranquillity. However, maybe it’s the stakes and tension that this server brings is what truly brings them together. He doubts it though. He would miss his siblings if he were to go through with this little nonsense plan.

He sort of misses them now.

While he’s seen all of them recently, it wasn’t for the nicest of circumstances. He’s glad Parrot managed to become king, the only thing he doesn’t regret from the past month or so is that he got coronated. It’s truly what he deserves and he’s glad he’s gotten to where he wants to be.

They reach the workshop in quick succession. Wemmbu doesn’t waste time dilly dallying and sets to work making the books.

Eggchan sits on the blackstone table besides the crafting bench, seemingly lost in his own set of thoughts.

The angel had been more quiet recently, it wasn’t hard to notice, so he hopes having a place to write his thoughts out would help his friend.

“Wemmbu?”

He pauses, hand still mid air in preparation to glue the pieces together.

“Bro?”

“When was the last time you spoke to your siblings? Like- In a siblingly manner.”

His hand glides back to the rough leather, the paper sticking instantly to its hoister by the glue.

“I dunno, not since Spoke started his exploits, and probably not for a while before that too.”

The now put together book gets dropped next to Eggchan as he straightens and stretches before bending down to craft the next.

”Bro I noticed you aren’t very close with them, Im not judging dude but wouldn’t it suit you all to get along more? I mean.. especially you and Flame.”

“I guess we’re not all that close, but that’s pretty much how everything's always been. Or has been for a decade and so.”

Eggchan doesn’t ask any more questions after that, unbothered by Wemmbu’s dismissive tone. He watches as the dragon finishes the craft of the last five books before he all but collapses to the floor. He giggles.

“Bro, you cannot be that tired.”

To say that Eggchan wasn’t concerned about Wemmbu would be an understatement and a flat out lie.

His friend had been completely burnt out after the war, which should be expected, however, he can’t shake the feeling somethings up with him. He’s felt this way since he saw the manic look in Wemmbu’s eyes as he set off the orbitals. And the reflected look of fear and concern from Flamefrags.

He wonders what life was like for the four back when they actually got along. However, Wemmbu never seems keen to talk about it.

Lazily he draws his communicator out of his left trouser pocket as he slumps down on his bed, it hasn’t really been long since he had left his bedroom given the understandable exhaustion from most people he knows.

The screen shines garishly bright from where he holds the item above him, the curtains drawn makes the light from his lock-screen glow painfully.

There isn’t much interest to take from the device, the only messages pretty much being the absurd amount of death messages that usually follow in his best friend's trail after some big event happens. Nobody he really recognises though.

He absentmindedly opens a chat with him, Lomedy, Mapicc and Theo.

.Hello people

Eggchan-

Hey bro! Wsp!!!!!

-Mapicc

Hihiii!

-Lomedy

.I am good

.Can’t say the same for Wemmbu tho

.Bro is depressed

Eggchan-

Huh.

You know I’d say the same for flame.

He’s also been a bit down.

I mean y'all did just fight a war though.

-Lomedy

Come to think of it, Parrot has been too.

-Theo

?Really

Eggchan-

Yeah, I just chalked it up to

the stress of the new job role.

-Theo

His eyes flicker to the three bouncing dots in the left corner of the screen as he turns over onto his side, briefly he can hear the kettle hissing through the thin cabin walls from downstairs. A pleasant reminder of Wemmbu’s presence.

Spokes been a bit the same I guess… :P

He was rambling something about his siblings last night.

-Mapicc

That rings a bell..?

-Theo

.Y’know I was just thinking something similar

Eggchan-

“Yo bro, I made you some tea.”

His winged friend nods from where he descends from the staircase, silently making his way over to where Wemmbu’s standing in front of the kitchen island.

He sits, his tail wrapping loosely around the wooden stool as he holds his mug to his chest.

Usually at a time like this he’d be talking nonstop about any recent battle or plan for the future, how he feels about some random particular person or trying tease Egg into sharing the abouts of what’s happening in whatever book he’s reading. The guy always being too scared to share on the very slim chance he’d spoil it given Wemmbu bother to pick up a book.

Today however, he feels at a loss for words. It’s a strange feeling, because he talks all the time. Whether it’s joking with friends or poking fun at enemies in battle, there isn’t much time he’s not yapping about something.

So it’s especially foreign for him to feel so tongue tied.

“Thank you.”

He feels the air around him shift as Eggchan walks past to sit beside him. The angel sets the mug down on the table in front of him along with his communicator. He’s brought one of the new books too, and a pen.

“It’s nothing bro.”

Surprisingly Egg has already written a decent amount, a plan or schedule of sorts, given by the bullet point structure of half of one of the pages. He’s already gone back to scribbling words a line a second, thick white hair tossed over the page from where he’s bent over the paper.

He’s gotten used to the scratch of Eggs pen. One he made himself while they were still making the extension of the PrinceZam empire. Wemmbu doesn’t really know how it’s survived this long.

Leaning slightly to the left to get a better look at the ink that’s rapidly staining the thin material, mug now being pressed loosely to his lips.

A chime from Eggchan's communicator distracts the both of them before he can get too invested with snooping into the book.

I think that would be a good idea.

If maybe we got them to meet up at yours, Eggchan?

-Theo

Huh?

Theo??

“Eggchan?” He turns a inquisitive gaze towards his friend. Confused by the strange message. Why would Eggchan be talking to Theo? Did Parrot randomly decide that LetticeK was right to imprison him? That he too would follow that line of action.

He didn't want to go back.. What about Egg? Parrot wouldn't do this right? He'd been the nicest..

Eggchan sighs, leaning away from the table and closing the book, reaching his arms high above his head in order to stretch.

"Wemmbu. I'm concerned about you. You've barely spoken these past few days, you haven't gone near your own communicator at all so I know you haven't talked to anyone but me."

The worry in the Seraphim's eyes is evident, a soft sky blue mixing with the deep ocean of concern.

"And don't think I haven't noticed the distance between you and your siblings, I-. I know you're not really too fond of talking about them but I think it'd be good for you to maybe meet with them in a informal and less bloodthirsty setting."

"You want them to come here?"

"Yes."
