Summary
Yue Qingyuan, lost son of the Emperor, finally finds Xiao-Jiu in a pleasure house, after a long decade of searching for him. His plan is simple: buy out Xiao-Jiu's contract and set him free. Xiao-Jiu has other plans.
The guqin player tilts his head back, one fine-fingered hand reaching for a long pipe at his side. He picks it up, brings the narrow mouth of it to his lips and takes a long drag, then purses plump lips to exhale the smoke. He leans back and smiles to one of the courtesans at his side and says something, his voice lost among the general chatter of the others at his side.
Before Yue Qingyuan has even realized it, he finds himself standing a scant few steps away from the group, watching them from behind gauzy drapes.
Xiao-Jiu.
It's Xiao-Jiu.
Xiao-Jiu, splayed out on the daybed, one arm over the back of it, the other holding the pipe to his lips. Emerald green robes gape at his chest to reveal a smooth expanse of jade-like skin, pale and immaculate. Surrounded by countless beauties despite the early hour, an emperor holding court. A hazy cloud of pipe smoke obscures his features slightly, giving him an oddly dreamy look.
