It'd been far too long since Abolish had seen his boyfriend in person and he was honestly tired of waiting for it to get here. He was well aware that it was on its way and wouldn't take more than maybe a few minutes longer, but he wanted to have it in his arms again already, get to kiss its stupid face for the first time in five years.
Living across the country from each other was difficult, to say the least. Xeir boyfriend lived in New York and xe lived in Oklahoma - not as bad as the distance could be, but Lord was it still frustrating sometimes. Xe would give anything to have him stay here with xem all the time, something he'd luckily been thinking about doing, moving back to his hometown where they'd grown up together before he'd left after his parents had died.
Abolish was lucky they'd managed to keep in contact, thanks to the guy's adoptive father being a close family friend. It still sucked that he lived so far away, but there was hardly a day that went by that they weren't texting each other and it was through no faults of their own that they hadn't been able to visit in so long. They used to visit each other all the time, at least a couple times a year, but everything had been chaos for both of them for so many reasons and it was a miracle they'd found the time for this again.
He was abruptly snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of a car door shutting outside, standing at the front door to hold it open for the other man in an instant. It was carrying one suitcase in each hand, although for a few long moments, he was distracted by how gorgeous it looked and couldn't even think of a greeting much less offer to help it. Softly curled black hair tied back in a short ponytail, brown eyes just as warm as ever with the same thick eyelashes, freckles still covering his pale face.
Almost the second it stepped through the door, xe couldn't help but lean in and press a kiss to its cheek. Finally, xe found xeir words, saying while its face dusted with red, "God, I've missed you. Come here, uh- let me help."
"I'm- I'm alright." He let out a quiet laugh, as pretty as ever, not fighting xem when xe took one of the suitcases despite his protests. Xe lifted xeir free hand to rest it on his cheek, staring down at him for a moment - xe was eternally grateful that xe was a couple inches taller than him - before pulling him into a real kiss, pressing their lips together firmly but not nearly as aggressive as xe wanted to.
A couple seconds passed before its boyfriend let out another little giggle, although he didn't quite pull away as he murmured, "Let me put my stuff down first, then you can make out with me."
Abolish sighed dramatically, but quickly helped him take all his stuff to its room, tossing the suitcases down next to the bed. Somehow, it managed to convince him to just unpack his stuff later, eyebrows raised skeptically as he was dragged out of the room again, although he couldn't suppress his dumb grin as it peppered his face with kisses.
"I just wanna go out on a walk with ya," xe promised, planting a quick kiss on his mouth as xe grabbed the bag xe had already packed off of the counter. "Get some fresh air, y'know? I know ya aren't gettin' near enough up in that big city."
The other looked like it wanted to say something, before thinking better of it, taking xeir hand as xe headed to the front door. "Mm, yeah. I don't think I've gotten fresh air in… a few years now."
Its hands were much softer than his own, lacking the callouses and scars that covered his, not to mention far paler - but its skin was still covered in the same pretty freckles it'd been when they were younger. He brushed his thumb across its knuckles as he huffed, "Yeah, I can tell. No offense or anythin'."
"None taken." It rolled its eyes at him and squeezed his hand, then glanced away with a deep breath as they headed down the path to the lake out behind the house. The place looked almost the exact same as it always did, with tall grass and shimmering water, trees towering over it and casting long shadows down on them.
With one look at its face, Abolish could tell his boyfriend was deep in thought, expression soft as its dark brown eyes traced over every little thing. He led it around the edge of the lake, continuing to trace circles into the back of its hand as they made their way to the other side. Even though xe had lived here xeir entire life, the house being given to xem after xeir own parents had passed, seeing the other man look so awestruck by everything made xem feel a little bit like xe was running around outside for the first time all over again.
"I can't believe it's been five years," he murmured as the two of them stopped next to an old concrete bench xe didn't quite trust the quality of enough to sit on. His eyes met xeir again, pausing for a moment to briefly sink his teeth into his lip, and xe knew exactly what he was about to say. "I really am sorry that I-"
Leaning forward, it pressed its lips to his before he could say more, feeling him sigh sharply but tilt his head to kiss it back nonetheless. Its eyes fluttered closed halfway, unable to keep itself from staring at him, sunlight shining through the leaves overhead and making him look even prettier, even if he admittedly looked a little unhealthy after overworking himself so much - but it was sure it could fix that in the week it had with him.
When xe finally pulled away, the other almost didn't seem to want to, hovering maybe half an inch away before at last leaning back when xe spoke. "You're fine, Abolish. Really. I'm just glad I have ya here now."
He paused, mouth open slightly, before he sighed and just leaned in to kiss xem again. Xe wasn't going to protest against that, though, reaching up with xeir free hand to run it through his hair, which was about as tangled as it looked but still as soft as ever. A little hum left him as their lips slotted together, only for him to squeak when it took the chance to nip at his lower lip.
"I really am happy you're here," it whispered against his lips, feeling him laugh breathlessly in response and press a quick kiss to the side of its mouth. It noted that he usually wasn't this affectionate, neither of them were, but it felt the need to make up for lost time and assumed he was doing the same. "You're cute. And I think the hormones have done a lot for ya too."
Its head tilted to the side a bit more, almost like a dog's, and xe reached up to brush hair out of its face. In all honesty, it'd always looked absolutely gorgeous to xem, and xe really didn't think it could get any hotter, not when it already had those warm brown doe eyes and the prettiest freckles xe had ever seen, but apparently xe had thought wrong. With another soft kiss to xeir cheek, it hummed, "I could say the same about you."
"Although you could do with some more time in the sun," Abolish then said, a grin spreading across his face as its nose scrunched up slightly. "Look at how pale you are, Abs. And I think ya need to eat a bit more too."
Squeezing its hand, he pulled away and continued to walk, heading toward the forest just behind the house. His boyfriend grumbled a bit about him being rude, but didn't argue. He'd never been entirely sure where the property ended and their neighbors' began, but no one had ever gotten mad at him about it before and he doubted anyone would now. They could hardly keep track of their dogs, much less whatever other animals or people were trespassing where they couldn't see.
Speaking of their dogs, Abolish heard a whine a bit away, and before he could react, one of the neighbors' dogs was bounding up to him and circling around his legs. A laugh left him as he leaned down, managing to pat it on the head with his free hand. It then turned to his boyfriend and stopped, peering at him with near-black brown eyes as it leaned forward to sniff his leg. His eyes were wide with surprise, and Abolish couldn't help but laugh a bit more.
"I don't know its name, but it's been hangin' around me for a couple years now," xe hummed, giving it a couple more pats on the head before straightening up again. "I give it food sometimes and I guess it likes me now."
"I see," xeir boyfriend said slowly, then leaned down to give the dog a few pats on the head. His lips quirked into a small smile as he hummed, "I wonder if it can still smell my cat on me."
"Probably. Doubt it cares, though." Tugging him along behind xem, xe continued to walk, the dog following close behind. Sometimes xe wondered if anyone owned it at all - it seemed to be pretty attached to xem, at least. And it looked like it liked xeir boyfriend too.
Glancing over at him, xe could so easily picture living here with him years in the future, with his cat and maybe a dog of their own. The thought made its heart race a bit and it quickly looked away, focusing on not tripping over any branches or rocks in front of them. He held onto its hand tightly with a faint smile on his face, gaze sweeping the area around him like he was seeing it all for the first time. It almost kissed him again but reminded itself that it was trying to take him somewhere and had already gotten distracted enough.
Eventually, the two of them stumbled out into a field, with yellow grass almost as high as them that was probably full of about a million snakes and bugs, but he couldn't be bothered to care all that much as he made his way down to the lake. It was a lot bigger than the one back at his house, and he knew the guy who owned the property so he didn't need to worry about anyone getting mad at him.
"Over here," he hummed, making his way down near the shore to sit on a fallen log. His boyfriend hesitated, then slowly sat down next to him, and he couldn't help but roll his eyes fondly. "Livin' in the city's really made ya afraid of a bit of dirt, huh?"
Its nose scrunched up a bit, while the dog sat on top of one of its shoes, licking at the bottom of its jeans. As it spoke, Abolish shrugged off his bag and set it to the side. "No, I'd just- rather not have to scrub mud out of my clothes."
"Well, that's a shame for you, then." Without warning, he suddenly tackled it to the ground, pressing a kiss to its lips to silence its gasp of surprise, hands grabbing onto his shirt as its eyes blew wide. The kiss only lasted a couple moments before it was fumbling to shove him off, only to get a hold on him and roll over so his back was now to the dirt.
"Have it your way, then," he huffed, although his eyes were shining, clearly trying to fight down a grin as the dog padded over to sniff and start licking at xeir face. Xe struggled to push it away from xem, squinting and wiping the spit off on xeir sleeve, although xe didn't manage to hide a smile of xeir own.
When the dog started trying to lick xeir face again, he allowed xem to sit up, both of them laughing as xe wiped xeir face off. Then, with a grin, its boyfriend leaned forward and pressed a kiss to its lips, dragging it into his lap as his back rested against the old log. Running a hand through his hair, its eyes drifted closed as it leaned into the kiss.
"I love ya," it breathed into his mouth before kissing him firmly again, squinting open its eyes to watch the way his face flushed so prettily. "More than anythin', darlin'. You are the most handsome man on Earth."
With another kiss to its lips, he whispered back, "No, I think you are."
They went back and forth like that for a while, trading kisses and compliments until they were both breathless, the dog curled up at their sides as they at last just laid against each other and relaxed. He continued running his hand through his boyfriend's hair, slowly combing out all the tangles. There were bits of grass and dirt in its hair now, stuff he made a mental note to help it wash out later, but he'd be damned if he didn't admit that it was still drop dead gorgeous.
"I really do love ya," he murmured, pressing a kiss to the side of its head, earning a hum and its lips ghosting over his neck in response. The sun was beginning to near the horizon, maybe an hour at most until sunset; it'd already been late when his boyfriend had gotten here but he really wished they could stay out here a little longer.
"I love you too," it whispered after a few moments, leaning its head back to blink up at him. "Thank you for… inviting me out here. I- I've been needing to get out for a while, and I… missed you."
Xe placed a kiss on its forehead, xeir smile softening. "Yeah, it's no problem, Abs. Anythin' to have ya here with me again. Where I can finally kiss ya instead of just thinkin' about it."
His face reddened further, although he was smiling more obviously now, having given up on trying to appear totally neutral. "I was, uh… thinking about- Moving here, maybe, in a couple months. Although I understand if you don't-"
A kiss was pressed to his lips before he could continue, xeir heartbeat skyrocketing. He let out a little squeak of shock and he seemed to be still trying to recollect his composure when xe pulled back to speak. "Abolish, I would give anythin' in the whole world to have ya here with me all the time. Whatever I can do to help."
"I, uh- Thank you." He averted his gaze, his grip tightening on xeir waist for a moment before relaxing again. "I just need to… quit my job, find something to do out here. I'm not really sure what I'd do, so I… I don't wanna just, um, drop everything and end up with it not working, y'know?"
"I promise ya that I'll make it work." As xe said it, xe was already starting to run through the options in xeir head. They'd need to worry about his testosterone prescription first, since he'd probably have enough money to go without a job for at least a few months with xeir help, although they would need to figure out somewhere for him to work, preferably sooner rather than later. With a deep breath, xe told xemself that xe needed to worry about him right now, and asked, "When were ya thinkin' about movin' out?"
It tucked its face into xeir neck again, humming, "Probably four months, unless you need more time?"
"I'd prefer it if you were here sooner, actually, if I'm bein' honest." He pressed a kiss to its neck as it let out a quiet giggle, squeezing his waist again. "But that sounds good to me. God, ya have no idea just how much I've wanted ya to move here."
"Yeah, I think that… not seeing each other for five years, uh, isn't really going to work." It sighed and pulled him closer, fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt. "I love you and I- I'd rather not… be away for so long."
"I know. I love ya too, darlin'." He could hear him trying to hold back a laugh, huffing a little against his neck. "C'mon, though, I think it's gettin' late enough now that we should be headin' back."
As he pulled himself back and helped his boyfriend up, the other man sighed, "Yeah, I haven't eaten since this morning."
It couldn't help but raise its eyebrows, leaning down to dig around in its bag for a moment. "You are a mess. Here, eat this for now, it'll hold ya over 'til dinner."
He shook his head, trying to get a few blades of grass out, before unwrapping the granola bar and taking a bite. The dog trailed behind the two of them as they made their way back to the house, Abolish handing its boyfriend another snack while they walked through the forest. He gratefully ate it without saying a word, shoulders bumping together for a second. Watching him out of the corner of xeir eye, bathed in the golden light of the near-setting sun, xe couldn't help but think that he really was the most beautiful man in the world; it was a miracle he was Abolish's.
The sun was dipping below the horizon by the time they got back, and it held the door open for him, gesturing him inside. When the dog tried to get in, xe gently ushered it outside, shutting the door after promising to put out some food in a second, seeing xeir boyfriend smiling at xem out of the corner of xeir eye. When xe turned to him, a kiss was placed on xeir cheek with a grin xe had missed more than anything else.
"I'll go start the bath," he hummed, starting to turn away. Xe managed to catch his lips once more before he left, both of them smiling into the kiss, and then he was disappearing down the hall.
"Thank you, darlin'," it sighed, turning away and running a hand through its hair. It couldn't wait until it was able to spend every day like this, with the most wonderful man in the world.
