Summary
When Laura Lee’s car breaks down on a lonely stretch of road, she thinks she has been lucky to find someone willing to help.
Shauna seems quiet, strange, but kind enough. She offers Laura Lee a place to stay while her car is repaired, and for the first few days, Laura Lee believes she has found temporary shelter. She eats at Shauna’s table, sleeps in her guest room, and tries to call home whenever she can. She thinks about her mother waiting for her. She tells herself she’ll be back soon.
But the road never gets fixed.
