Counting the days

Summary:

Grace is counting the days until he runs out of food.

Chapter Text

I have run out of real food ages ago. I have already stretched it out by eating Coma Slurry and Taumoeba in between but not as often as I should have. For almost three years I have only eaten coma slurry and to say that I dislike it would be an understatement. It's just so fucking disgusting. I'm not sure if throwing Taumoeba in makes it better or worse. It's absolutely bad for my mood and Rocky understands now, why I was hoping to be able to eat their food.

But now the coma slurry is running low as well and we have tested the Taumoeba, they have some nutrients, but there are no vitamins at all. Not really surprising, but still disappointing. They will give me calories but this won't stop me from dying of malnutrition.

I know the Eridian scientists are working frantically on a solution and I know Rocky is absolutely terrorizing them. I feel sorry for them, Rocky can be frightening, when they want something really bad and right now they want me to survive really bad. To be fair, I want the same. I have calculated how many days of food I still have before I'm switching to 100% Taumoeba, I have made a countdown on my whiteboard. I have 117 meals left, if I stretch them out, so that's a bit over a months. Chances that they find a solution in this time are slim. I spend too much time, staring at the whiteboard. No idea what I'm hoping to gain from it, because it only depresses me.

I have a therapist here, their name is Chair, don't judge me, I'm not good at naming, they also think it's a bad idea to do this, to focus too much on the possibility of dying. They're probably right, but it has been looming over me for a pretty long time now, so it's hard not to think about it. After every meal I update the number on the whiteboard, seeing the number getting lower and lower. Rocky also hates seeing this whiteboard and has threatened to throw it out more than once. Of course they don't want to be reminded, that I might die soon, they keep talking about how they're sure, the scientists will find a solution soon. They can't even see the number, but apparently it's enough to know, that it's there.

I get up and into the kitchen, not that I have much use for a kitchen, Rocky had built me one anyway. I take a package of coma slurry and pour water into it. I have experimented with different amounts of water and ended up using quite a bit, to make it as liquid as possible. It's easier to just drink it, than eat it. This doesn't mean it's good, I still have to force it down. I once again try to hold my nose closed but it doesn't do anything against that weird feeling it leaves in my mouth. I gulp it down as fast as possible, so I can get it over with as fast as possible. Then I go to the whiteboard and erase the seven to change it into a six.
