Work Text:
Jim woke up slowly, the blanket over him was nice warm and heavy and he heard Spock breathe next to him very quietly, he kept his eyes closed and reached out for Spock, found his arm and then his hand, interlacing their fingers. He felt the connection between them. Even when they slept it was there, allowing them to share what was in their minds. And Spock seemed to be dreaming. Jim knew, even while sleeping, Spock could push him out if he didn't want him there, so Jim didn't feel bad, as he joined the dream. Jim looked around, they were on Vulcan and Spock was standing next to him.
"Hello Jim", Spock said. Jim smiled. He looked around a little.
"Where are we?" he asked quietly, he knew, if his thoughts were to loud, Spock would wake up.
"This is my parent's summer residence," Spock explained. The house was much smaller than the house Jim had been to as they had visited Vulcan. He had only seen the one, where they lived most of the year. There was a boy outside, sitting on the floor in the sun, with a book in his hand, a sehlat was lying on the ground, one of his hands was buried in the sehlat's fur.
"Is this you?" Jim asked, watching the boy.
"Yes," Spock replied.
"Do you miss Vulcan?"
"Mhh," Spock made, thinking about it. "There is a reason, I left, but it is my home." Spock replied. Spock took Jim's hand and everything around them changed, they now were at the home of Spock's parents, where Jim had been before. Jim saw a now older Spock help his mother in the garden, they watched for a while in silence before it changed once more. Now Spock was an adult, a young adult, still a couple years younger than when they met for the first time. They where in a shuttle bay, Spock and Amanda again, Amanda hugged him and Spock looked uncomfortable. Jim assumed, this was their goodbye when Spock went to earth to go to Starfleet Academy.
The image blurred and finally vanished. Jim opened his eyes and saw Spock, who's eyes were opened just a tiny bit. He looked still sleepy. Jim lifted a hand and stroked Spock's cheek with his thumb.
"Good morning," he said quietly.
"Good morning, ashayam," Spock replied in a sleepy voice. Jim loved seeing Spock in this moment just after waking up. He was so happy that they finally had each other, they might no longer be traveling the galaxy but they had amazing experiences from all the years doing so, dangers, adventures, new experiences. Now they had settled down into a little house on earth, teaching new cadets and most importantly, they were together, really together.
Spock got a little closer and Jim put an arm around him, letting Spock press against him. All mornings should be like this for the rest of their lifes. And maybe the even could.
