Chapter Text
As a child A-na had always thought that being a police officer was difficult. Until she became one.
All she had to do was stand next to the fare gates and guard the place. She would’ve quit a long time ago if it wasn’t for her best friend Jeong Leean whom she calls Ian.
She couldn’t possibly leave Ian alone, A-na was pretty sure in stress situations the girl would end up accidentally tasing herself.
“Why do they always give us night shifts, it’s so annoying and depressing” Ian complained, her eyes scanned the nearly empty railway station and let out an exhausted sigh.
A-na’s eyes drifted towards her young friend with a small smile. “Hey c‘mon, night shifts means more money besides at least we don’t have to deal with crowd rush.”
“Yeah, instead we need to deal with drunk people.” Ian shot back, complaining yet again.
The taller girl let out a small amused sigh, her younger friend was clearly not as optimistic as A-na herself.
She leaned back against the metal handrail and casually put her hands in her pocket. “In a bad mood?”
Her friend exhaled loudly, shoulders slowly relaxing and the stress look on her face slowly softening. “Yeah, you could say so. It’s just… I had a fight with Stella and well we haven’t talked since the fight.”
“Why? What happened?” A-na tilted her head.
“Stupid argument, I did send an apology text but she left me on seen.”
“Ouch.”
“Exactly.” Ian gripped her vest and bit her inner cheek. “I think I should give her some space, maybe she will text back tomorrow. I… I don't know.”
“That’s why single life is the best life.” A-na joked, trying to lighten up the mood and make her friend smile.
“Alright, alright, whatever dude.” Ian shook her head, a small smile forming on her face successfully. “Seriously Yuna I think you should finally start dating, you’re like twenty-two years old yet avoid physical touch so much.”
A-na pursed her lips before shrugging. “Eh, I‘m not really into dating besides my life is way too busy.”
“All you do in your free time is play video games and argue with children.” Ian said, clearly unimpressed by her older friend.
“Yes exactly, that’s why I’m busy.”
“Loser.”
A-na immediately felt offended. “You literally play with me!” She argued angrily pointing at Ian with an expression that could kill.
“Yes but I got a girlfriend so I am allowed to pl–”
“Excuse me…” A soft, almost shy voice interrupted Ian’s yap, both of the guards immediately turned their attention towards the woman who was looking at A-na with wide eyes.
“Roh Yuna…” The stranger said, stepping closer towards A-na, reaching out to touch the badge on her vest, before she could get closer A-na stepped aside and scanned the woman.
“Can I help you?”
The woman didn’t reply, instead her gaze dropped down to A-na’s hand, looking at her silver ring which rested on A-na’s ring finger, she reached out again.
A-na dodged the woman‘s touch again, this time more irritated. Her hand rested above the taser. “I said, can I help you?” She repeated herself, slightly harsher so the woman would finally stop being weird.
The shorter woman stared straight in A-na’s eyes, holding eye contact for way too long. A-na awkwardly shifted, looking at Ian who seemed equally confused.
Finally the stranger gently replied with a serious yet warm sound. “We’re married.” She held her hand up, showing the exact identical ring just in gold sitting perfectly on her ring finger.
A-na’s eyebrows furrowed as she looked at the woman’s hand before locking eyes with her again. “I’m sorry but I’m not married to anyone.” She professionally replied, yet the woman took one step closer.
“But we’re married.” She reached out again, this time A-na grabbed her wrist before the stranger could touch her.
“I don’t even know your name.”
“Yu Haram, everyone calls me Yuha except you, you call me sweet names” The woman named Yuha tried to cling onto the taller girl by reaching out with her other hand but A-na was faster and grabbed her other wrist.
“Alright Yu Haram, we are not married and you’re not allowed to touch police officers.“ A-na coldly said.
“But we’re married…” Yuha weakly argued which made A-na become super irritated.
A-na had no idea who this strange, gorgeous stranger was but there was one thing she knew and that was that she wasn’t married.
Especially not to this woman.
Ian finally decided to approach with a small yet kind smile. “I think you got the wrong person, ma‘am, my partner here isn’t someone who dates so I doubt she’s married.” She awkwardly chuckled trying to make this situation less weird.
“Go away. You don’t know anything, me and Roh Yuna are married.” Yuha replied, glaring at Ian.
Ian’s eyes widened, eyebrows shooting up with shock. She slowly looked back at A-na before looking at Yuha again. “Well then, I won’t stop you from talking to your wife.” Ian kindly smiled, holding her hands playfully up in surrender before walking back to her position.
A-na glared at her useless friend before finally letting go of the woman’s wrist. “Alright, there’s clearly something wrong–” Before A-na could even finish the sentence, Yuha practically jumped on her, clinging super hard.
A-na hated it, she hated someone coming so close and when Yuha accidentally touched her cheek she felt anger flare up.
There was nothing more she hated than people touching her face.
She pushed the woman off and glared at her. “You know I could arrest you for this, right? Turn around and walk away before you make this worse for yourself.” A-na warned with a cold voice, her eyes showed no sign of recognition or love for Yuha.
Yuha froze, looking at A-na with a hurt expression, she took a small step back but didn’t leave. “Can’t you remember me, sweetheart? We are married. Yesterday we made pancakes together, remember?” She gently reminded A-na.
A-na’s eyes narrowed. “You’re clearly on something, go home lady. This isn’t the time to make a police officer’s life harder.” She dismissed Yuha with a wave but Yuha didn’t move, instead she stayed right where she was.
“When’s your shift over?” Her so-called wife asked.
The taller woman stayed silent as she looked away. She didn’t want to give Yuha any more information, hoping it would make the strange woman leave.
“I’m gonna wait for you and then we can go home together.”
“No.” A-na turned towards the woman again. “I only share an apartment with her.” She paused as she pointed at Ian. “I’ve never had a wife, hell I haven’t even dated in ages! You’re crazy and we are not married.” She scoffed.
Yuha looked even more sad, she pouted slightly, holding back tears. “So you’re just gonna leave me here stranded in seoul…”
“Don’t you have a home?” A-na asked, voice filled with annoyance.
“We shared one but I forgot the address.” She whispered, clearly not wanting to make A-na even more angry.
A-na let out a long sigh, clearly tired from talking to Yuha. “Give me your ID Card.” She held out her hand.
Yuha tilted her head before grabbing A-na’s hand and intertwining their fingers with a smile. “What’s an… ID Card?”
The police officer didn’t comment on how natural and comfortable Yuha’s smaller hand felt in her hand, she didn’t grab her hand back as tightly but weirdly enough she didn’t let go.
“The card with your picture and like your information.” The taller girl paused. “Identity card, you know?” She tried again.
Silence filled between them before Yuha let out an awkward sound. “Uh… I don’t know.”
“I’ll check your pockets, alright?”
Yuha nodded, somewhat confused by what A-na meant until A-na let go of her hand and started patting the older girl down.
That’s when… A-na realized something was terribly wrong, Yuha wasn’t acting, she knew it. A-na could recognize liars, thiefs, and scammers but this woman in front of her was utterly confused by everything except A-na.
All she could remember was that A-na and her were married.
A-na looked towards her friend, who was busy by texting someone with quick taps, probably Stella again. “Ian.” She called out, her friend looked up from the phone with a confused expression.
“What’s up?” Ian asked, her eyes flickering between Yuha and A-na, seeing the difference. A-na looked annoyed as hell meanwhile Yuha looked like she was about to burst into tears.
The other officer walked closer to her companion, A-na leaned in and whispered in Ian’s ear. “She doesn’t have an ID, has no idea where she lives, can’t remember anything except that I’m her wife.” A-na paused and glanced at Yuha who was staring at her. “Should we take her to the chief?”
“No.” Ian immediately said, she pointed at the camera stationed near the stairs. “They’ll probably check the cameras to see where she came from.”
“I don’t see the issue with that.”
Ian shook her head again, clearly not wanting to alert anyone. “They’ll see that I was on my phone and I will get in big trouble, you know how strict they are with these stupid rules.”
The younger friend paused.
“Let’s take her with us.”
“No.” A-na sharply said, leaving no room for arguments. “We are going to report this, what if she’s some… I don’t know, a trap? Maybe she’s carrying drugs or something.”
They both looked towards Yuha, scanning her.
“Are you serious? Look at her! She looks too innocent for that, we are taking her home and we aren’t gonna report anything.” Ian deadpanned.
“Okay so we take her home, what then? We can’t just—”
Ian cut her friend off by shushing her, she looked around to scan the area, making sure no one else was here. “We know her full name, let’s just check tomorrow in the system if we can find any information about her but until…” Ian looked towards Yuha before turning to A-na again. “She stays with us.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No, we don’t even have enough room.” A-na argued, glaring at her younger friend who seemed too comfortable to let a stranger in their house.
“She can share with you.”
A-na’s jaw dropped, she quickly shook her head. “You’re crazy, she’s sharing with you.”
“Hey, I got a girlfriend, that would be borderline cheating besides you know how Stella gets super jealous.” Ian sheepishly smiled, knowing she was gonna win this argument.
They both looked at each other, not agreeing on the same thing until Ian took out a coin. “Alright, let’s just flip this coin and if it lands on heads, she’s coming with us.”
“If it’s tails we are gonna report this.” A-na finished for her friend.
The younger one nodded, A-na took the coin from Ian and tossed it in the air before catching it and flipping it on the backside of her hand.
“heads…”
