Summary
Archdevil Mephistopheles, the esteemed Lord of the Eighth, the greatest spellcaster in all the realms, hated having his work in the Hells interrupted. He received a warning that the plot to bring forth the Grand Design championed by the Dead Three (using his stolen Crown of Karsus!) would be a complete and utter disaster that could damage the Material Plane, the heavens, and all Nine Hells.
Mephistopheles and the other Lords of the Nine had been tasked by the Lord of the Ninth with preventing such an apocalyptic outcome by intervening on the Material Plane and aiding a group of adventurers with curing their tadpole infections and stopping the coming catastrophe before it destroyed the world and made the vast majority of mortal souls unusable to devilkind. Unfortunately, that meant Mephistopheles’s existence was now being spent as a caretaker for mortals and mired in Hellish bureaucracy with no end in sight.
It’s going to take an incredible amount of patience and ingenuity for Mephistopheles to aid the adventurers in their quest to defeat the Elderbrain while stopping the mortals and his colleagues from fucking everything up.
