Crawling out of yourself a different person

Summary:

Two-Time is such a violently different person, the old Two-Time had died with Azure. The old Azure died when his body did. Two-Time, now scurrying off from the killer they don't know is their beloved, spots them and runs their mouth without thinking. They just need to talk it out right?

(sorry for the horrendulous title)

Work Text:

The moon shone down onto the dull blood spattered grass, Two-Time stumbled around after they had gained their second life due to it being a "last man standing." Their blood clotted wings and tail drooped behind them while they winced, desperately trying to leave the clearing to avoid the killer once more. They were so great at hiding they managed to avoid even seeing the killer the whole round.

Just as they were about to turn a corner their eyes whipped onto a tall dark figure. The familiar smell of poison spores flooded their head, and even though Azurewrath was so different to their former beloved, they couldn't help but recognize them...

Their brows furrowed as their vision focused, Azure charged at them while they were still gathering themself.
Azurewrath moved on their own, pushing Two-Time along and slamming them into the wall.
Azurewrath had some sort of permanent tear marks on his face.

Even with Azurewrath's poison vines pinning Two-Time down to the spot they were grinning ear to ear.
"You--!!" A low emotional growl.

"My beloved!" Two-Time yelped out in pure ecstasy with tears pricking a their eyes and flushed red cheeks.

"I thought I'd never see you again!" They spoke out through the pain.

"It was foolish of me to doubt it, I knew we would be brought together again!"

Azurewrath pulled himself back in anger, roaring with his hands holding onto his head.

"Don't you pull this on me!" He screamed.
"You killed me! Or have you forgotten? I thought that you cared!" The spectre was becoming mighty intrigued with the pathetic display of emotion.

Azurewrath hit Two-Time hard, bashing their nose and possibly loosening a tooth.
"All those memories!"

"Did it mean nothing to you?" He punched them again.

"You filthy filthy traitor!" and again.

"You killed me!" and again...

"Left me to die out in the wild!" and again...

"You left me to rot!" and again...

Two-Time, running with adrenaline and barely clinging onto their second life still couldn't help but smile knowing their beloved was here with them.

You never even loved me did you!" A declaration of impulsivity came out of Azures mouth.
"Just a vessel for the spawn!?" Tears welled up and out of his eyes with anger.

Two-Time's manic smile that never faltered once dropped to a grimace.

Azure noticed this and it made his stomach swirl just a smidge.

The knot in Two-Time's stomach twisted, their face softened, and then twisted to anger.

"wh-.. h-Hey!"
"I did it because i loved you so Azure! To bring you your second li-"

"Don't use that name with me!" Azurewrath grabbed onto their shoulder and sank sharp claws into their shoulders, fighting off the urge to murder them, he needed to bang it into their head.

Two-Time squirmed in distress. "You could never understand!" Tears began to stream.

"You could never accept the spawns glory!"

"I was under order of the spawn dear Aspen! The spawn!"

"Why else would have Amarah instructed me to do so?!?"

Anger bubbled up out and burst from Azurewrath, busting the keys on the zipper of his mouth he cried out in Two-Times face.

"Because you're in a cult Two-time! It meant nothing!"

It wasn't really anger was it, Azurewrath knew that well but they couldn't decipher their true feelings under the influence of the spectre.

It was a mix of sadness and a mix of yearning. They wanted to just...pluck Two-Time out of this place they were stuck in, and wring out their brain of all the manipulation they'd been put through. They wanted their old Two-Time back, so so badly. Please...

He didn't even realize he was bawling his eyes out screaming in Two-Times face. Hate for the cult, hate for Amarah and...them...

He just wanted it done, he wanted it over and done with. He wanted to go home, he wanted to leave, he wanted to go back, go back in time and let Two-Time kill him for good and when the spectre appeared in front of him to get him to sign that god-forsaken contract he'd say no and he wouldn't have to deal with this hell.

He wasn't talking...neither was Two-Time. They were both just...kind of crying at eachother.

Azurewrath saw the old Two-time in their tears for only just a second.

"I.." Two-Times face reddened.

"I never stopped loving you.."
"I-I really had to..."
"I really did...You're great now aren't you?"
"aren't you? and I've gotten my greater form as well yes?"

"It's a form of hell that we're in now..."
"And I really could leave if I wanted to, but I haven't because the spawn wants me to stay until you accept it too, so...we can be together. Together in our next life! That's why everyone is here yes?"

Two-Time smiled, they smiled so genuinely through the blood and bruises it made Azurewrath a little sick. They had a look in their eyes that told Azurewrath vehemently without a doubt in the world that Two-Time fully believed everything they just said.

Azurewrath froze in some sort of heavy heavy disappointment, their bottom lip shook. Maybe just a moment of silence for the Two-Time he knew he would never get back, so much grief for the person standing right in front of him.

The spectre managed to sew Azure's mouth up just before they were going to respond.

He looked at Two-time as Azurewrath dropped them them to the ground. Holding their hands together with pure anticipation in their eyes while refusing to run, seemingly accepting their fate.

He just..he just couldn't do it. He couldn't kill them. Of course he wanted to! Of course he did... He just...

couldn't.

He just stared.

The spectre, amused but frustrated spoke out. "Azurewrath, kill them."

"Now."

Like a dog he obeyed, it was pathetic how he raised such a tired tired fist down onto Two-Time, barely doing any damage at all and it the whimper they let out was just as pathetic too.
He was just trying to make it so that maybe...maybe the spectre wouldn't try to possess him again.

But it did. The sickeningly painful feeling of vines travelling through his body to his arms and legs and joints, pinching and forcing him to move.

...

Two-Time was now a splatter on the ground.

The both of them had respawned in their corresponding cabins.

Two-Time was happy as a clam that they had been reunited with their beloved, Azure sat at the edge of the bed in his cabin, thinking of things. There was so much hate within their heart, but so much love...
He couldn't help but feel so guilty he couldn't save them, even though it wasn't his fault.

A hideous monster is what he was but somehow Two-Time still loved him.
I guess Two-Time is also a monster as well...

The both of them thought to themselves.
"I just need to get them away from spawnism / to convert to spawnism
then we can be happy."

Who knows...maybe Azure will be a little kinder to Two-Time the next round.
but not without a stern talking to of course...
