Summary
Jack Abbot has been alone for a long time. It’s been almost a decade since losing his wife, and almost two since he’d been stationed as an army doctor overseas. He’s kept to himself. Held his own. But recently, he’s been going to therapy more. He adopted a dog that has him working days for the first time since his wife died, and he’s trying something new.
When Iris Cross crashes into his life via PTMC's emergency department, he’s not ready for her. Not for her jokes, her smile, and especially not the way she looks at him. Or the way she makes him want to visit her in recovery after her emergency surgery. Not when he’s navigating a new routine, therapy sessions, and the trauma he’s never quite worked through.
Iris has always been ready for someone like Jack. Someone who saw through her jokes and the way her smile lit up a room — who understood her. And yes, he’s her doctor, but what could be wrong with sending him an Instagram DM for some aftercare instructions?
