“Do you… do you want to get out of it?”
Simon swallows, breathes in and out very slowly.
“It’s not possible,” he whispers. “I don’t know anything else."
“I know it’s not simple, but it can be done. I promise you Simon, it can be done! There is always an out, there is always an option! You can always run away from it!”
Simon looks at him. He takes his time tracing the edges of his face, the nearly perfectly round mole at the bottom corner of his left eye, the straight nose, the pouty lips and the light stubble. Then back up to his eyes and the little frown between his brows, dark pupils sparking with stardust.
He looks beautiful like that, earnest with conviction, so sure that Simon could have another future, if only he seized it. It feels so simple when he looks at the man telling him to just run. But Simon doesn’t know where to run to, so he stays put.
“You’re very pretty,” he blurts out.
