Work Text:
It's well past midnight when Shouta stumbles through the front door of his apartment.
The apartment he shares with Hizashi and Oboro, actually. They had moved into their current place not too long after getting married. It's a lot nicer than the run down one they had gotten fresh out of high school. Their schedules don't align as often as Shouta would like, but he loves being able to crawl into bed between his husbands after a long patrol.
Unfortunately, he had gotten injured on patrol. Hizashi would lose his mind if Shouta got blood on the sheets, so he needs to patch himself up before he can go to sleep.
He doesn't want to wake anybody up, but it's difficult to be quiet when injured. He attempts to take off his boots in the dark while trying not to trip over any other shoes and also not get blood on anything.
Shouta’s patrol wasn’t supposed to be over for another few hours, but finishing a patrol in his current condition didn’t sound appealing in the slightest. There had been some wannabe super-villain trying to steal from — who had seemed to be — a homeless person with no possessions other than an odd scarf.
Unfortunately for the villain, Shouta was not a homeless person, and did not have anything that was worth stealing (other than a jelly packet). Unfortunately for Shouta, the villain did not seem to care about his snack (more jelly for Shouta) and had been convinced that he had some secret pockets somewhere in his costume. Unfortunately for the villain, Shouta had no secret pockets. Unfortunately for Shouta, the villain had a claw mutation quirk and is now sporting some mildly concerning injuries down his side.
While they didn’t warrant a hospital trip, they're certainly going to be difficult to bandage alone. Not impossible, but difficult. He could wake up one of his husbands, but they really need some sleep.
Shouta hangs up his capture weapon and makes his way to the bathroom where the first aid kit is. He closes the door behind him and turns on the light, squinting as his eyes adjust. He takes off his torn costume. Repairing it will be more effort than it's worth. He'll have to remember to order another one. There's a backup somewhere, but with his track record it'll be torn up within a week.
Shouta turns to the side and lifts his arm to look at his injury in the mirror. Three jagged lines from a few inches under his armpit down to his hip. It's hard to measure the damage with the dried blood that covers his side. Medical advice would say the cuts are definitely longer than half an inch so he should get them stitched up, but they stopped bleeding at some point. Shouta decides that he'll be fine without.
He grabs a rag from under the sink and runs it under warm water. Shouta wipes away the dried blood as gently as he can. Parts of the cuts start bleeding again, so he pauses to hold the rag against his side until it stops.
Halfway through the process, a knock at the bathroom door startles him.
"Shou are you in there?" Oboro's tired voice calls from the hallway.
"Yeah." Shouta replies, he hadn't expected anyone to be awake. "Everything okay?"
"Mhm. Just got up to get a drink. Saw the light under the door. Why are you in this bathroom instead of-" Oboro opens the door as he's talking and pokes his head in, stopping halfway through his question when he sees the cuts down Shouta's side. "For the first aid kit, then."
He opens the door the rest of the way and steps into the bathroom, taking the rag from his husband's hand and continuing the process of wiping away dried blood after guiding him to sit down on top of the counter surrounding the sink. He's more methodical with his movements. Making sure that each section of skin is completely wiped off before moving onto the next.
After a minute or so of quiet, Oboro runs the rag under some water to rinse away the blood. "What happened?" He asks before returning to his self-appointed task.
"Someone tried to mug me. Got mad that I didn't have anything worth stealing. Claw mutation quirk."
Oboro grimaces at that, knowing all too well that his husband's quirk isn't effective against people with mutation quirks. "Did you cut your patrol short or is it later than I thought?"
"I cut it short. Figured I should head home and patch it up." Shouta neglects to mention that he actually came home because the cuts sting, and it would have affected his fighting abilities. He didn't want to risk getting into another fight and not being able to win.
"Hurt enough to come home early but not enough to come wake us up?" Oboro asks, because he knows that if Shouta just cared about patching up the cuts he would've figured out a way to do that without ending his patrol early.
"Wake us up about what?"
Oboro and Shouta jump at Hizashi's question. They hadn't heard him walking down the hallway.
"Holy shit ouch." Hizashi moves into the bathroom when he catches a glimpse of Shouta's injury. "What happened?"
"Someone tried to mug him. Claw mutation." Oboro supplies, looking up at Hizashi as he sets the dirty rag down in the sink.
"Did he come get you?" Hizashi asks Oboro, moving to sit on the counter next to Shouta. He makes sure to sit on his husband's uninjured side.
"No." Oboro gives Shouta a pointed look. He opens the first aid kit and gets a tube of antibiotic ointment, taking some on his finger and dabbing it lightly down the length of the first cut. "I was going to get some water and saw the light on in here."
"You can come wake us up if you're hurt, you know?" Hizashi asks, bumping his dangling leg against Shouta's.
"I didn't want to wake you guys up. You need all the sleep you can get. Both of you." Shouta replies. He knows that they would be more than okay with him waking them up. Especially if he's injured. They've told him the same thing more times than he can count, and he would want them to wake him up if they got hurt on patrol. "Guess that didn't quite work out, though."
"Not even a little bit. I woke up all cold and alone because nobody invited me to the first aid party." Hizashi pouts, leaning dramatically into Shouta's side and pretending to shiver. Shouta humors him by putting an arm around his shoulder and pulling him closer.
"I would have brought you along if I knew our poor husband was bleeding out all alone in the bathroom." Oboro shakes his head in mock sadness, like Shouta not coming to get them was the greatest betrayal he'd ever experienced.
"At least someone around here loves me." Hizashi sighs and shakes his head with the same dramatic flair.
"I wasn't bleeding out." Shouta argues. "You two are the most dramatic people I've ever met."
"Thank you!" Hizashi beams. "I try my best."
"I have absolutely no clue what you're taking about!" Oboro gasps with fake shock. "I've never been dramatic a day in my life."
"If you don't hurry up I'm going to patch myself up alone. It's way too late to be awake." Shouta yawns.
"Who's the dramatic one now?" Oboro teases, but he moves to the next step almost immediately. He takes a gauze roll and winds it around Shouta's torso. It's easier than taping a bunch of gauze pads together and them securing them. Hizashi helps, taking the roll from Oboro's hand when he can't reach around Shouta's back.
They pass it around Shouta a few times until the cuts down his side are completely covered. Oboro secures the end of the roll with a piece of medical tape and kisses Shouta's forehead. "All better."
"Hmmm." Hizashi examines Shouta, then shakes his head disapprovingly. "I don't know. I think someone might have to carry him."
Oboro takes a second to look over at Shouta before reaching the same conclusion and picking him up. "You're absolutely right, he's in no state to walk." Oboro declares as he moves towards their room.
Shouta wraps his arms around Oboro's neck to steady himself. He's tempted to complain about how he's fine and doesn't need to be carried, but it's nice. His feet are sore from patrol and it was cold outside, but Oboro is warm and perfectly willing to carry him right to bed.
Hizashi follows close behind, smiling at his husbands the whole time. When they reach their room he speeds past and throws himself onto the bed, holding his arms out for Shouta. Oboro sets him down in the middle and Hizashi wraps around him like an octopus.
Oboro gets into bed behind Shouta and pulls the covers over the three of them. "Goodnight." He says, draping an arm over Shouta's side, careful not to aggravate his injuries. And then, speaking to both Shouta and Hizashi, "I love you."
"Goodnight, I love you." Hizashi echoes back.
"Love you, too." Shouta mumbles, already half asleep.
They fall asleep with legs tangled together and arms holding each other close.
