Female Pelicans Love Each other

Summary:

Samantha “Sam” is overheating in her own home due to the humid air. So, she wanders over to her “best friend” Sebree’s “Seb” house and chills in her cold basement room. Perhaps the movie they watched wasn’t the only cute thing going on.

Notes:

This is a Genderbent sambastian fic. I tried to keep their names as similar as possible and throughout the story I go from using their nicknames to their actual names. However, Sam is used a LOT because I got lazy typing out Samantha.

[Samantha = Sam, Sebree = Sebastian “Seb”]

Also, I know they’re like 20 in the game, but I feel like I always write them as 18-20, maybe it’s just me who sees it like that.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The air in Pelican Town can only be labelled as humid. It is too hot to actually function and yet not hot enough to excuse an excessive use of AC. At least, not in Sam’s house; not according to Jodi, Sam’s mother. It was probably her fault that Sam was now in Seb’s house, given his room—the basement—has AC and it has limited windows to let the cold air out. In other words, it stays cold once it gets cold. Just one of the many things that she loves about Seb’s room. Another was the bed. Sebree had cool white sheets and a sable black throw blanket that was just a tad bit too small for them to share.

Sam curled up on Sebree’s bed as she waited for the girl to be done on her computer. She’d been working on some freelance coding before Sam had shown up. She was always working on her freelance codes. Honestly, she never left her house when she was focused, so Sam worried sometimes about her lack of vitamin D. Maybe that's why she was so pale. Sometimes, Sam had to remind herself that Seb wasn’t a vampire with her ebony black bixie cut, matching that of the iconic Alice Cullen.

“You should take more breaks. Then maybe we’d have more time to put together that band that I’ve been practicing so hard for.”

Sebree rolled her eyes, a clear sign that she was not taking the other girl seriously,  and continued to work. So, Samantha continued to ramble on about some rock songs she was learning on her electric guitar. The one she would have been using if they ever started that garage band they wanted to. Could it even be called a garage band if they did it in her room.

“You know, if you keep talking I’m never going to finish this code and then we’ll never get to watch that movie you were talking about.”

Sebree’s tone was light and teasing, as it usually was when she wanted to get what she needed. Sam, however, still lit up at this and quieted down a bit so Seb could finish a bit of her code before she started bothering her again.

—--------------~~~----------------

Eventually, Sebree finished the portion of her code that she had been working on and put her computer into rest mode. With that, she asked Sam the “obvious.”

“What was the name of the movie again?”

‘You seriously don’t remember the one thing I’ve been talking about for weeks”

Seb rolled her eyes.

“No, I don't remember because I didn’t think we’d actually have time to watch it.”

Sam pulled out her phone and began to text Jodi about spending the night; knowing that if they started watching the movie, then they’d end up falling asleep and then she’d never be home for curfew.

Once her mom had responded with the same average answer as always, she went back to looking at Sebree, who now had a pale blue pillow in her lab as she scrolled through her watch list, waiting for the name of the movie Sam had mentioned.

“It’s called Labyrinth. It’s the one with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. Mom told Vincent he couldn’t watch it because it looked “scary” so I wanted to watch it with you.”

Sam took a breath.

“Remember?”

Seb looked over at Sam with slightly overworked eyes.

“Of course, I just didn’t know the name. It’s not like I forgot everything you’ve said in the last few weeks.”

With that, Seb typed the name into search and they began to watch as Sarah’s little brother, Toby, is kidnapped by the Goblin King upon her wish. During the time she wanders through the labyrinth in order to get to the Goblin King’s castle, Seb begins to focus on the style of filming.

“How long do you think the filming took? It looks like it would have been years with how intricate it is.”

She looked to Sam for some kind of guess, only to find that Sam’s eyes were entirely locked onto the screen as Sarah ran through the eventful maze. Her honey blonde hair was pulled back into a low ponytail, so she probably skateboarded over, and her baggy shirt was wrinkled at the bottom from the position she sat in. A position of long limbs that could only be comfortable to Samantha.

Sebree often tried not to notice too much about Samantha. She found it made her feel weird—nauseous—when she stared at her brown eyes and flushed cheeks. A face only really Seb got to see. She’d often tried to convince herself that the reason she felt sick whenever Sam laughed was just a natural reaction she’d develop to the sound over time. Though it didn’t fully make sense, the only other option was a parasite that reacted negatively to her noises or a crush, which she couldn’t have.

It wasn’t the worry that Sam wouldn’t like her back, actually she had been told a million times by others that Sam was actually fairly smitten with her in more ways than others. The only thing really holding her back was the uncertainty of how she felt herself. However, now wasn’t the time to think about Samantha’s flushed cheeks, bright hair, or dark brown eyes that were now comfortably staring into hers instead of Jennifer Connelly’s on the television.

“Whats wrong?”

“What do you mean?”

Seb knew she sounded suspicious, but she wasn’t about to spill her soul to the only person on her mind right now.

“You’re staring. You only stare when you’re overthinking, Seb”

Sebree just shrugged her shoulders and turned her gaze back towards the movie. Sam hated when she did that. When all she could think about was what possibly could have been replaying in that back of Seb’s head that she couldn’t help with, for some reason. She’d make whatever problems she had going on disappear without a word if she could.

Seb reminded herself to look at anything but the gorgeous girl beside her. Repeating to herself that platonic feelings could always get mixed in with romantic ones and her fastening pulse that occurred when Samantha leaned on her had nothing to do with such thoughts.

Soon enough, Samantha and Sebree were asleep. Their limbs intertwined as they rested peacefully, both half beneath the sable black throw blanket that hardly fit them both. Maybe another day they'd finally talk about the obvious feelings and they'd kiss enough times to make up for it, but today, it was just another summer night in Pelican Town.

Notes:

I used a bit of a different format than my other works, I'm trying to expand my Wattpad level writing (sorry). There will be more shorts after this, but I don't know if they'll all be Sambastian (they won't all be genderbends for sure).
