Work Text:
Light filtered through your eyelids, waking you from your sleep. You groan and bury your face in your pillow to block out the light, most likely murdoc in the bathroom, nothing to worry about.
You then hear a gagging sound followed by someone heaving, and a splashing sound. Your eyes widen immediately after hearing what sounded like someone vomiting into the toilet. Quickly, you get out of bed and walk to the small bathroom to see murdoc kneeled infront of the toilet, his body shaking.
"Oh shit.." you mumble as you make your way beside murdoc, putting a hand on his back. A glance into the toilet bowl confirmed your suspicion that he had puked. Your hand rubbed his back gently and he leaned into the touch.
"Fuck, did I wake you up?" Murdoc rasped, taking deep breaths.
"Yeah, but it's fine. Don't worry about me, luv" you responded. Murdoc didn't respond, both of you staying silent for a couple seconds before Murdoc felt saliva pool into his mouth again. He propped himself up again, head over the toilet bowl.
"Gonna puke again?" You ask, before he could verbally respond, he retched into the bowl, a liquid-y brown paste with chunks of half digested food filled the toilet. You cringe a bit at the sound and smell, but kept comforting Murdoc by rubbing your hand on his back. He leaned back a bit, catching his breath, a bit dazed.
"You feel better?"
"...yeah, a bit.." Murdoc responded. You nod your head and get up off the floor, closing the toilets lid as you do. Murdoc watches you as you walk over to the sink and grab a cup and fill it with water. Murdoc slowly gets up, flushing the toilet as he does and stands next to you. You turn to him and give him the cup of water.
"Here, rinse out your mouth. Come back to bed after, I'll be waiting for you." You say, he nods silently and you make your way back into bed. You hear some rustling coming from the bathroom for a minute before seeing murdoc's shadowy figure exit the bathroom, turning the lights off as he made his way back. As he made his way to your shared bed you lift up the blanket so he could easily crawl in next to you. He does so without protest.
"Cmere, luv" you murmur as you drop the blanket and wrap an arm around his waist, bringing him against your chest. Murdoc lets you, even cuddling closer to you.
"When did you start feeling ill?" You ask as you rest your chin on the top of his head, carding your fingers through his black hair and scratching at his scalp.
"Mmh, yesterday night? I don't really remember the exact time, but it was sometime after supper." Murdoc responded, burying his face in the crook of your neck and wrapping his arms around your torso.
"Why didn't you tell me?" You question, petting his hair with one hand and holding him by the waist with the other. Murdoc shifts a bit to get more comfortable before replying.
"Thought it was something that'd just pass overnight. Didn't wanna worry you."
"Alright.." you look down at him and brush some of his bangs out of the way and then press a small kiss on his scarred forehead before letting the bangs fall back into place. You continued "anything i can do to make you more comfortable? Want more blankets? Need medicine?" Murdoc opens his eyes and looks back up at you when you take your lips away from his forehead, thinking for a second before responding.
"Uh.. no, I'm good for now"
"Okay, just tell me if you need anything."
"Mhmm" Murdoc nods his head slightly in agreement, pulling the sheets higher. You go back to having your chin rest on top of his head, holding him close to share your body heat with him. In moments of vulnerability and weakness like this one, he always liked to take refuge in his many safe spaces. One of those spaces being in your arms. He always felt safe in them, knowing he wasn't alone, someone was there for him, and that someone loved him. He always liked to say he was tough, that he was aloof and allergic to warm stuff like cuddling. Put you knew better. You knew better than to believe those outlandish lies. You saw first hand how much he loved affection. How much he loved receiving them and giving them to you. Every night, before the both of you went to sleep, you would cuddle up to each other, sometimes you guys talked, sometimes it was silent.
You look down at murdoc, still snug against your chest, seeming to have fallen back asleep. Good, he’s gonna need it if he wants to get better.
