Sakae would like to think he is quite mature for his age. He had to grow up quickly because of his circumstances and had to take on responsibilities that a lot of people his age usually wouldn’t. So when he finally got into a relationship with Haruka, he had no concerns about silly little issues others their age would usually face. He felt pretty solid he could handle anything that came their way.
That is until he started getting introduced to Haruka’s other friends. Most of them he didn’t have a problem with. He even had a good time with them for the most part. Thats when he met his first obstacle, his first big obstacle.
“Sakuraaa! Finally I found you guys!”
See, Sakae never saw himself as being a jealous person. Why would he? It seemed like a silly thing to waste time on. Something about Togame Jo stirred something in him though, especially whenever he saw him around Haruka.
Maybe it was because he heard their story, how Haruka opened Togame’s eyes and helped him ‘become less lame’ or whatever. That wasn’t a problem, hell he felt closer to his boyfriend too after their first real fight by the river. He totally could get that.
It didn’t explain the lovesick puppy look in Togame’s emerald eyes every time he saw Haruka. Sakae was well aware that many people were in love with his boyfriend in some way, shape or form. It never bothered him before, but something about Shishitorens second in command harboring feelings for his Haruka twisted his stomach. Maybe it was because they seemed so close, or just how comfortable Hakura seemed with the older boy.
Everytime the three of them hung out though it was the same thing everytime. Togame making small chat with him, fawning over Haruka and leaving Sakae wanting to fight him.
Now here they were, at a festival in Shishitoren’s territory with Togame slowly making his ways over to them. Unlike Hakura and himself, who wore Yukata’s for the event, Togame was dressed in some loose pants and a tight black shirt. Sakae couldn’t prove it, but he swears he picks those shirts on purpose. They showed off the muscle in his bicep a little too well. Togame was carrying a couple of containers in hand that looked to have some food in them. He could feel the way Haruka perked up next to him when he saw the containers.” Took you long enough! Are those fried noodles?”
Togame let out a carefree chuckle before he held out two of the containers to them.” Yeah, I got sucked into another booth right before you messaged that you were here. Glad I didn’t miss you though.” Bright green eyes shifted over to Sakae before he gave him a warm smile.” Hey Momijikawa, good to see you again too. That Yukata looks great on you.”
Sakae gave him a nod as he took the container, a bit surprised by how warm it still was. He ignored the last comment since it wasn’t anything new. Togame always looked for something to compliment him on when they met up, probably to distract him from his obvious attempts at his partner.” It’s good to see you as well.”
He really tried not to let those feelings bubble up while they would all hang out. He knew Haruka’s past and wanted him to have as many connections as he could. Watching the way Togame reached over and ruffled Haruka’s hair as he practically drooled over the container had them flaring up something fierce though.
Clearing his throat to try and drag those lovestruck eyes off of his boyfriend, Sakae went to nod to the side when he noticed they were starting to get in peoples way.” We should move before we start to annoy others.”
The easy going smile Togame threw his way nearly had his eyebrow twitching.” Great idea, Momijikawa.”
He didn’t bother to wait for a response from Haruka, instead he slipped his free hand into the other boys and went to head for a clear spot between some booths. He made sure to intertwine their fingers just for good measure, wanting to send a clear sign to the older boy with them.
Unfortunately when he looked over when they stopped, Togame didn’t seem to notice at all. He did notice that Haruka was bright red though and he felt slightly bad. Usually he gave him a bit more warning before he did things like this, but seeing Togame touch him freely had him doing the same.
It’s fine, he won’t do that again. He was more mature than this.
Releasing his partners hand so he could open up the noodle container even Sakae had to take a second to enjoy the smell. He had heard many times that Togame made some good fried noodles and it seems the smell was going to back that up. Taking a bite of it nearly had him scrunching his face up in frustration. These were really delicious. Was he going to have to worry about this guy out cooking him?
Glancing over at the other two he could see Haruka already getting himself a mouth full. Sakae couldn’t contain the fond smile when he saw how full his cheeks were, it was probably one of his favorite versions of his partner. He looked cute with his cheeks stuffed full and his eyes shining bright. When he looked at Togame though, he felt his jaw nearly drop.
The guys container was already empty! They just stopped to eat! Was that even humanly possible?!
Haruka seemed to notice this as well since he shook his head after he swallowed.” You’re such a show off.”
Togame just tilted his head now before he let out a slight sheepish laugh.” Come on, Sakura. You know I just have a big mouth.”
Sakae furrowed his brows at this before he fixed Togame with a stern look.” You should still pace yourself. You could choke or burning your mouth eating that fast.”
Both of the other boys turned to stare at him in surprise, and honestly Sakae couldn’t blame them. Why the hell was he scolding someone older than him? And someone he wasn’t even that fond of either?!
It only made it worse when Togame burst out laughing, holding a fist up to cover his mouth.” Didn’t realize you cared so much. I’ll make sure to be more careful so I don’t worry you.”
“I-I never said I was worried!” Damn it, he felt his face burning just a bit. Why was this guy getting a reaction out of him. He went to turn his head back to his noodles before shoving another bite into his mouth, trying to ignore the pair of chuckling he heard next to him.
Was he just trying to make a fool out of himself on this outing?
It was fine, he could pull himself together. There was still plenty of time at this festival, he wasn’t going to act weird anymore while they were here.
Unfortunately it seems fate had a different plan for him. As soon as they were done eating, Togame suggested they play some of the games. That should have been an innocent enough affair, right?
The one problem with this is that he could be a bit competitive sometimes. It was fun when it was with Haruka, mostly because he could tease him afterwards if he beat him or even if the other boy won. With Togame though, it felt like he had to prove something.
It only made it worse when the first game they played Togame won the big prize, he gave his prize to Haruka. Sure that definitely could have just been a friendly gesture, especially since his boyfriend was so bad at games. It was the look in those eyes though, that same loving gaze he had seen before, that set him off. When Haruka’s face brightened the way it did whenever he was met with something that surprised or amazed him, something in him snapped.
Whatever reservation Sakae had on being competitive went right out of the window in that moment. He had to win more big prizes for Haruka than Togame, there was no question about it now.
So that’s how the next several booths went. He didn’t know if Togame picked up on him trying to out do him or not, but they were going pretty even on winning the better prizes. Poor Haruka was only managing to pull the lower end prizes, but it didn’t really matter when him and Togame were giving him theirs. There had been only one exception so far and it was when Togame won a large wolf plush, which Sakae took as a victory on his end.
Before they could hit anymore booths, Haruka let out a frustrated groan as he stomped over to an empty bench.” I need a break! I cant carry this much stuff!”
Sakae bit the inside of his cheek when he saw just how many trinkets and plushies his boyfriend dumped onto the bench. So maybe this did get a bit out of hand, but he couldn’t help but feel a bit prideful in the fact that he won the majority of those gifts for him.
Togame let out an awkward chuckle before he rubbed the back of his neck, the wolf plush resting under his other arm.” Sorry, Sakura. I think we just felt bad you weren’t winning anything good.”
Sakae scuffed before he muttered under his breath.” Speak for yourself.”
Well, maybe there was a little truth to that as well. It wasn’t Haruka’s fault he was bad at these games, but it did make it easier to give him things.
The glare they both got fixed with had both of them standing up a bit straighter. Haruka pointed down to the pile, a threatening edge leaking into his voice.” Im going to the bathroom. Do not win me anything else or so help me I will fight you both.”
Sakae couldn’t help the smirk that slipped, his boyfriend was just too cute when he was mad.” Alright, Haruka.”
“Sorry, Sakura! We will reframe. Oh before you go though!” Togame went to reach into his pocket and pulled out a few glow in the dark bracelets.” I got us these to wear around at the last booth.”
So that was what the older boy had been whisper about with the booth worker. Sakae raised an eyebrow as he watched Togame snap them so they would glow. There were six in total, three yellow and three green. Togame looked over at Sakura before motioning him over.” Here, I’ll put them on you two.”
There was no good reason for him to move over when he did, but Sakae found himself moving between the two.” I’ll put his on. You can put mine on afterwards.”
He matched the green eyes staring at him before taking the glow sticks when Togame held them out to him.” Sure, whatever is easier.”
Sakae went to turn back to Haruka and paused when he saw the suspicious look he was given. Yeah, he might have been a little obvious there, but oh well. He didnt know how much more touching he could witness. Taking one of Haruka’s hands in his, he went to lift his hand up so he could work on snapping the bracelets onto him. Once he was done he took the hand in his once more before bring it up to his face so he could give it a kiss.” There we go.”
Haruka grew a light red as he pulled his hand away, his eyes glancing to the side.” Thanks, weirdo. Go ahead and get yours on now.”
Rolling his eyes at his boyfriend, Sakae turned back to Togame and held his arm out to him. The plushie was tucked carefully under Togame’s arm as he moved closer to him. He felt his eyes squint a bit when he noticed a playful smile appear for a moment before Togame went to snap his on. When he felt finger tips lightly graze along his arm as the bracelets were put on, he felt goosebumps run up his arm. Was he doing this on purpose?.” There we go, I can see if I can put my own on.”
“What? Just give them to me and I’ll put them on.”
Togame looked at him in surprise, irking Sakae just a bit since it really wasn’t that big of a deal. A big grin spread across his face as he held out his wrist to Sakae.” Thanks pal, I appreciate it.”
“Yeah, you’re welcome.” He tried to ignore how strong Togame’s hand looked even when relaxed like this. Haruka had mentioned once that he was confused on how he was so strong when Togame admitted that he didnt work out really at all. Now it had Sakae curious as well. Was that something Haruka liked? The minute the bracelets were in place, Togame gave a light chuckle as he looked them over.” Now we all match.”
Haruka looked between them again, his annoyed look back in place as he watched the two of them.” Seriously, no more gifts while I am gone.”
If the huff his boyfriend let out before he stomped off was anything to go off of, he didn’t believe they would stay put. As long as Togame didn’t go to win him anything else then Sakae wouldn’t either. He would like to respect his boyfriend’s wishes.
The problem now was there was no bench for them to sit on thanks to all the prizes taking it up and the two of them were standing here awkwardly. He chanced a glance over at the slightly taller boy. Togame had a pinched expression on his face, like he was debating on saying something. What could have him looking like that?
Taking this moment while Togame wasn’t paying attention, he went to look the others side profile over. It only annoyed him more with how attractive Togame was. Fluffy black hair, bright green eyes, a strong jaw line and even his nose added to his appeal. Sakae knew he wasn’t unattractive, but he couldn’t help but compare himself to his potential competition.
When emerald eyes met his amber ones, he felt himself tense up. Shit, he got caught staring. Before he could turn to look away, Togames low voice caught his attention.” Hey Momijikawa… did I do something to make you upset?”
Damn it, had he been that obvious about how he was feeling? If he was being honest with himself, he wasn’t trying to upset the older boy. Togame did seem like a genuinely good guy, at least whenever they interacted. Sure he treated Haruka special, but he made sure that he was included too. That was more than Sakae could say about himself.
Before he could answer, Togame continued on, scratching at the back of his undercut.” I just noticed the look you give me sometimes or today with the prizes. If I did something I just want to apologize.”
Sakae let out a sigh before he went to turn so he could properly face Togame, his fist clenched at his side. He knew acting like this wouldn’t have good consequences.” You didn’t do anything wrong.. but what are your feelings for Haruka, if you don’t mind me asking?”
Togame looked a bit surprised by this question before he slipped that relaxed smile back on his face.” I think Sakura is amazing. He is such a great guy and way stronger than even he realizes. Im really lucky to have met him.”
Well there wasn’t anything there that Sakae could argue with. He agreed with all of that. All of that could be taken either way as well. Togame went to continue as he looked up at the sky, scratching his cheek with one finger.” Thanks to him, me and Choji not only fixed our friendship but we also brought Shishitoren closer and stronger than ever.”
Oh well now he felt like a real idiot. He was putting on this whole show and Togame was just really appreciative of his boyfriend. He didn’t even bother looking into this because he was just so sure that Togame was in love with his partner. Of course he would treat Hakura differently, he had helped him such a great deal.
Before Togame could continue on, Sakae felt himself bow a bit, his fist clenched once more.” Im sorry, Togame. You didn’t do anything wrong. I was.. being jealous I guess? I thought for sure you were in love with Haruka and I let that get the better of me.”
There was a brief silence between them before he heard Togame chuckle a little next to him.” I mean, you aren’t wrong there.”
The rate that Sakae shoot back up nearly had him going dizzy. Did he really hear this guy right?.” W-Wait what?..”
The big guy at least had the decency to look a bit bashful as he glanced to the side.” Yeah, I love Sakura too. Actually before you and him got together, I was going to finally confess to him.”
Was he seriously saying all this out right to him? Sakae felt his face shift, his brows coming together as he glared at Togame. Here he was apologizing to this guy and he was going to actually admit to being in love with his boyfriend? Sakura was able to take this guy on in a fight so he probably had a good chance as well.” So you were trying to flirt with him these last few times?”
Togame went to hold up a hand to him now, looking a bit surprised by this.” No wait, I have been trying to flirt with both of you these last few times.”
Wait, huh?!
Surely he was messing with him? There was no way he said both of them? That didnt make any sense! He wasn’t nearly as touchy with him as he was Haruka, was he? He did compliment him when they were together. No there was no way. He felt like an idiot when all he could come up with was a loud.” What?!”
The chuckle from the older boy dragged him out of his thoughts. His confusion must have been clear on his face because Togame had a slight smirk on his face.” I’ll take it you didnt realize it? You two are kind of a package deal now. Not to mention you seem like a good guy, and you have a good face.”
Damn it, he could feel his face heating up. This guy had to be nuts. They didn’t even know each other that well.” So what? Instead of taking Haruka you think you can get both of us?”
“I think I got a pretty good chance, I mean-“ Togame closed the few steps between them before he went to reach over to take Sakae’s chin between his thumb and pointer finger. He didnt know where the cool and relaxed version of Togame went, because this one was oozing a confidence that even had him stiffening up.” I already got you blushing like this.”
He should hit him, he should hit him and tell Hakura they were getting out of here. He couldn’t move though, he felt like he was being held in place by those eyes. Why was his heart beating so fast right now? And why were his hands getting clammy? He did not like this guy so why was he reacting like this?
Was this Karma for all the times he had teased and flustered Haruka?
“Y-You-“
“Hey! Togame! Could we borrow you at the booth real quick?!”
In almost an instant Togame’s whole persona changed, the confidence was gone and back was the easy going guy he had been walking around the festival with before. He let go of his chin as he looked back at the booth worker who was yelling to him.” Yeah! Be right there!”
The slightly taller boy looked back at him before rubbing the back of his neck.” Guess I gotta get going again. Could you let Sakura know I’ll see you guys later? And think on what I said before, okay? I really do mean it.”
Sakae could only give him a nod, his head still trying to process what had happened here.” Yeah uh, alright..”
“Oh, one more thing!” Before he could refuse, the large wolf plushie was shoved into his arms. He looked between it and the other boy, finding him snickering softly at his reaction.” Sakura told me about your old nickname. It had to do with a wolf right? Pretty bad ass, so I had to win that for you. I’ll see you around though, Momijikawa.”
He watched as the guy turned to make his way over to the booth before he took a breath. He moved his free hand to cover his face with because what the hell was that? Sure whenever Haruka felt confident enough to take charge he gets like this but why would he for Togame? And was this guy going to serious pursue both of them?
How the hell was he going to explain all of this to Haruka too?!
