“I wanted to ask you something,” he begins, and his stomach is already burning.
“You can ask me anything, Lou.”
“That boy—the one who came to pick you up this afternoon, your classmate. Was that a date?”
And Lestat—poor Lestat. His face is so flushed that Louis fears he’ll lose consciousness. His breathing is labored as he drags himself to a sitting position against the headboard, his mouth opening repeatedly without a whisper escaping from it. He presses his palms to his eyes, where he rubs away a welling of tears that threaten to burn the skin around them. A choked sob eats away at his throat.
“I—please don’t tell my father, don’t tell my brothers.”
